  • Powerful tourer plus commuter which is reliable

    Hi Everyone,
This is my first post in Xbhp and looking for your help.

I currently own a 2010 RE Thunderbird 350 and looking for an upgrade. Here are my requirements

    1. Daily commute about 30 Kms
    2. should be reasonable powerful and comfortable for long distance touring - pillion comfort is not a big concern as I tour alone
    3. Reliable
    4. Does not mind the high maintenance costs over quality
    5. Cost - 2.5 L to 3.0 L

P.S - I have booked Mahindra Mojo and just playing the waiting game for a better option. The only thing that I don't like in Mojo is the looks

    Thanks in Advance !!
    Best Regards,
    Naveen

Though your stated budget is much more, the Dominar and FZ 25 should surely be on your list. The faired bikes might not be very comfortable for someone to ride who is used to the T'Bird!

    ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

And the Duke 390 as well, though it is not very comfortable.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Duke and RC390, though uncomfortable, packs a great punch in the vfm and performance department.

CBR 250, the classic, comfortable tourer. More fun to ride than Mojo. Faster, more reliable than a bullet/TB 500.

Dominar - good looks, good top end. Expect a few niggles since the bike is newly launched.

+1 for Dominar. Its definitely VFM and also as Bajaj mentioned it is a Power Cruiser.

          Hi naveen

Others have already suggested the alternatives to the Mojo.
You can either switch to the Dominar( Negatives - Weight, niggles) or can continue with Mojo and customize it to suit your taste and needs.
I don't know if you have seen the modifications that are doing the rounds on FB/ Watsap etc.
          You have got the budget.

          Cheers.

            Thanks Monk.

I will add few additional details that will help the experts to suggest the right bike

            1. I am 6 ft and weigh around 90 KG. yes I am heavy
            2. I am looking for a bike that feels big
            3. Not very commonly seen on the roads.
            4. 3.0 L is the upper limit and I am open for something that costs less as well.
            5. Going to keep the bike for at least next 5 years

I did test ride the Dominor. Though it is very short here are my observations
            1. Does not give the big bike feel but felt very heavy in traffic
            2. Big Turning Radius
            3. New entrant and being Bajaj - worried on the early niggles

Waiting to lay my hands on FZ25 ( was really expecting MT 03 )

              Hey mate,
You could also check for Benelli TNT 25. I found this machine will match most of your criteria. Also you could wait some times for the BMW G310R to arrive, which is around April/May 2017.
And if you don't want to wait go for test ride CBR 250 R and Benelli TNT 25. You will find the answer for sure.
              Happy miles ahead!!!
              Thanks,
              Jo

Re: Powerful tourer plus commuter which is reliable

+1 for the 3 bikes: FZ25, the Dominar, and the CBR250R. +1 again only for the CBR250R. If you haven't already, I suggest you to take a look at the Repsol Honda edition of the CBR. You've got a looker there. The bike also ticks all of your requirements that you've mentioned, and will definitely keep you happy for the next 5 years.

PS: The riding posture is slightly forward biased in the CBR. So should you take a TD, I humbly request you not to reject the bike after the 1st TD, instead take a couple of longs TDs and then decide. I(standing 6"2) found it difficult initially, then it just kept growing on me every time I took a TD.

                Cheers!

                  1. You're not heavy -_- I am. I'm 5'8" and I weight 110kg. Beat that.
                  2. The Dominar doesn't give a big bike feel???? [emoji33][emoji33] dude what are your big bike standards? That thing has so much going on tank wise and is almost as heavy as some 600s! It's no Diavel but looks like it's wannabe little brother for sure!

But yeah. Despite that, I'd say wait before you bite into the Dominar. The dust will settle, problems will get solved and THEN the bike is ripe for the picking. FZ25 is not even out yet. Look for something that's already out there. +1 to the CBR250R.

Besides, the Mojo isn't half bad. Needs its work, especially in the breaks dept, but it's not something you can do aftermarket. But that's why the CBR is good - not much to do after getting it but fill fuel and ride. [emoji41]
