    Best bike for bad roads?

    Hi Guys, my name is Aditya and i am new to this forum, i currently ride TB 350 which is 4 year old now. I live in an area of mumbai which is famous for bad road and during monsoon situation becomes worst. My TB 350 can't handle such conditions and has started giving me reliability issues and troubles even after regular maintenance.
    I commute to office 9kms and back daily on bike and looking for a new bike which can easily absorb bad roads and is reliable. I was interested in Impulse but Hero has stopped its production now and i don't want an used bike.
    I have seen Bajaj Platina Comfortec ad on TV which made me curious about it. I have seen youtube videos which shows its performance on bad roads, new platina even has 200mm GC which i think is max in bikes except Impulse.
    So guys please help with advice on which bike is best for bad roads. Budget is 150k.

      The USP of this bike is ability to offroad!
      Across different forums, owners have spoken very high about its ability to ride over bad roads.

          Hi Aditya,

          As suggested by another member the Himalayan seems to be the best bet since you are already associated with the RE family it would put you in similar territory in terms of maintenance. I would still suggest that you wait for a couple of months since RE was recently spotted testing ABS on some of their bikes and if I am not wrong have either launched or are planning to launch the ABS versions in the UK. As such the Himalayan may get ABS in the near future. This is just speculation based on what I have read.

          Also since you are from Mumbai, here is an odd idea from something I read a while back:

          Some dealership used to customise Impulses by putting in the Karizma engine. Perhaps you can look into this if it interests you.

            Yes sir, it definitely is.

            Himalayan is the one of the best when it comes to absorbing all the shocks. The suspension is really amazing. Esp with BS4, ABS and FI, it will be really good. I am expecting the price to go up a bit. Moreover, the ground clearance is pretty good too. The only place where I see a problem is, I don't really think it is for a city ride. If you are looking for city, highway touring, and off-road, then do look at it as an option.

              Yeah, it's also cool looking. However the lack of tubeless tyres means a simple nail can tame this beast. Tsk, tsk.

                Impulse 150 with a karizma engine is a long shot but a really good bike.

                  Yes Sir! I remember thinking after reading that article as to why Hero doesnt actually bring this into production. The impulse was a brave attempt at a time when Adventure bikes was an alien concept in our market. If only they would bring back the passion (absolutely no pun intended) with which they had launched the original CBZ (had owned one for 9 years) and the original Karizma, however they seem content on sticker jobs and Splendor updates.

                    Ive seen a few impulses with karizma engine, work was done in Chennai by a very experienced mech

                        Hi VikramAditya...after owning RE bike i am not of a fan of the company...no offense made but RE bikes are ower hyped and have basic design flaws which have been carried to Himalyan too...my first bike was 2004 Pulsar dtsi which is still being used by my cousin till date..I bought Platina last week as an bike for now as i have had good experience with bajaj.

                          Deathwing i have passed the age for such heavy mods on bike..i prefer OEM.. i have purchased Platina for now as interim mode of transport..will wait for another dirt bike to be launched in India. Nx bros or Ktm or Impulse 250 may get launched some time this year[emoji2]

                            I agree with you that Re does require high maintenance. Heck I owned one for a few years and sold it off since I was tired of its tantrums. Shifted to Hero Honda CBZ then the NS 200 and now the Dominar. Frankly I too will have a lot of trouble trusting RE. Just wanted you to consider it if you are up to handling it's tantrums[emoji4]

                              RE Himalayan being out of questions and Impulse being underpowered currently there are no Bikes in the price bracket which are meant for Bad roads. Now if you are talking about tarmac bad roads (read potholes) then currently there are normal bikes which are quite capable in bad roads conditions. I would recommend Pulsar 220F. Yes its an old model but i have owned it in the past and trust me its quite capable in bad road conditions. Also you get adjustable suspension for the rear so you can suit it to your comfort. The riding posture is also quite comfortable. Hope you are not talking about off road conditions then thats a different ball game altogether.
