I've short listed the following:
1. Access 125
2. Hero Duet
3. Yamaha alpha
4. Vespa.
Vespa is my last priority since it is way too costly, even for the base model. I don't need the justification but I'm just comparing it with the rest in the list.
My father is hell bent on metal bodied scooter and hence the Duet is included. What not? it's feature rich and rides well too.
I personally like the Vespa and want to buy only the base model. I reckon it doesn't have tubeless tyres. Is it so? Please clarify! God I missed the the transition period from BS3 to BS4 where the scooters could have been a steal.
So until now, I'm sold on access 125 and would happily buy the disc brake model. But still, my father wants a metal bodied scooter and there's already a suzuki at home but in the form of a motorcycle.
Yamaha alpha is my personal favorite. It has the best disc brake and is always in control. Large, good seating and nice smooth engine. Perhaps the smoothest.
I also had concerns about servicing in Chennai for Vespa. But now, after seeing your posts, I'm having little more confidence. The scooter will be used for solo riding mostly but is the pillion comfort too low? It's also this problem that makes me stay away from it. All the other scooters have abundant pillion space.
I have no doubts that this scooter will last for lifetime and also something that my whole family is looking for. Also the resale value is more than other scooters. My dad's personal favorite is Vespa. The scooter will also be purchased by him so I want to make a good decision for him. Although he likes access 125, he finds the fibre body very unreliable and unsafe and I'm tired of explaining it to him. My bike has fibre body parts and doing just fine for 3 years now.
So is it good to buy the base model of Vespa? or top models of the other three, namely, access 125, duet and alpha? I also acknowledge that Vespa gives same or even more mileage.
Please guide me properly.
One more doubtful incident happened yesterday. I was in suzuki service station yday to get my bike checked. Then, I got a call from Vespa showroom. I had registered last year on their website for a test ride. Since then they've been calling me. I've told them to call me next week, next month blah blah to gain some time. Also the nearest showroom is 10 km away, so lazy to go there too. But they've been following up closely at the exact time interval I've been telling them. This time I told them to call me next week. What I fear is the confidence that I have in them. They may not follow up like this after I buy the scooter. Just plain salesy. So how is it? Do they remind you of service intervals and other things with proper phone calls? They seem to be polite and well spoken too.
