Need advice about buying a bike within 1Lakh
Hello, I am from kolkata and this is my very first thread in xbhp. I need some advice on buying a bike. I am 5-10. Weigh about 106-108. I only travel within city and highway riding is rare. I will be travelling with a pillion(my mother). Lets get to the point, I test rode many bikes within 1lakh budget hornet, gixxer, apache 180, 200ns. So, I liked the ns but it will be 20K above my budget. So, with a heavy heart I had to remove it from my list. Last few days ago I rode gixxer and apache 180. Both come within my budget. So, I was asking for advice to this huge community for a suggestion. Suggestions about other bikes are also welcome. Also, please note that mileage 35-40 will suffice for me as I will not be riding more than 20KM a day. Also, please mention after sale service and spare costs of the bikes. I am grateful for your help. Thanks in advance.3Gixxer 2017 naked33.33%1Apache 18033.33%1Pulsar 200NS0.00%0Apache 2004v33.33%1Tags: None

You could check out the karizma r... Granted, it's not that good looking and the analogue meter is really outdated... But it's very comfortable, you'll get the desired mileage, maintenance is as cheap as it gets, and it has enough power to take on any 150 cc bike out there... Give it a shot...

Strictly from the point of view of comfort my humble advice would be to test ride the Unicorn with your mother, if possible. It is extremely roomy when it comes to the saddle length and width. Also it has a nice torquey engine which seems sufficient for city runs. Also they are known to be very reliable bikes. I think the Gixxer doesnt have excellent pillion comfort.
Within your budget if you are open to getting a cruiser bike then the Avenger should fit the bill in terms of comfort for you and your pillion. And dont worry about looking odd on it, I am 6 ft tall and i didnt feel cramped on the Avenger. I did have slight issues with extended riding because the saddle material was digging into me but in short city rides you shouldnt have problems. Also manoeuvrability within traffic is only a matter of getting used to the bike.Blood, Sweat and Gears - Enough Said.

Given that you have your mother as pillion rider, you may have a look at the new achiver..Originally posted by Johnty View PostHello, I am from kolkata and this is my very first thread in xbhp. Otherwise apache or gixxer are really good

I completly agree about the unicorn, its a great city come touring bike, good fuel economy, smooth engine, no sound and vibration, and its easy to open parts and repair so low mechanic labour charges.
Though i will not suggest bajaj avenger, because rear shocks r too short which may give you big jerk if you went to a pothole which r common in city limits
And bajaj bike spare parts a r not that durable, specially engine parts.

Personally I think its not wise to go for a karizma at this point of time. If you're looking for a new bike then you can post a query in what bike section of this forum. BTW if a naked bike is what you want in that price range you might want to consider Apache RTR 200, it got some pretty good reviews.Originally posted by Vikramaditya View PostHi Johnty,

Actually I am looking for a street bike with good power. My friend has a unicorn, rode it, but didn't liked the handle position. Its too commuter - ish. But the apache or hornet or gixxer gave me a good feeling. Handling is very good in these bikes. Same goes for achiever. Nearly same as the unicorn.
Should I wait for the apache 180 BSIV, hoping that they could update a few things. As the it is mandatory for manufacturers to update their bikes with BSIV norms by april 2017.

Its good that you have narrowed it down to the Apache, Hornet and the Gixxer. Best thing now would be to take your prospective pillion along on a test ride and get her opinion before sealing the deal on one of these bikes.Originally posted by Johnty View PostActually I am looking for a street bike with good power. Not certain about the BSIV query though.Blood, Sweat and Gears - Enough Said.

Not willing to buy a used bike. Also, as I said before I am looking for street fighter and not a cruiser as I am not that interested in highway cruising rather than city riding. Thanks for the suggestion though.Originally posted by deepDmnr View PostBuy a used thunderbird

Can anybody inform about any rumour or news about any apache BSIV update.

Re: Need advice about buying a bike within 1Lakh
As you need pillion comfort. And especially for ur mother. Out of the ahortlisted bikes i wl siggest hornet. Apache has vibrations one too many. Gixxer is great bike but lacks pillion comfort due to short and slanted seat.
Hornet will be perfect.
Pulsar ns bike has taller pillion seat and wl be diffficult for mother to ride
