Pulsars are sufficiently good even though there are a bit of compromises. But come on, they are priced very effectively so that you can realize your dream of a sufficiently fast yet economical to maintain and run motorcycle.
If there was no Pulsar, there would have been no Duke. IF there was no Duke then there would have been no flood of all the super bikes in Indian market the way it is now.
I am now owning a Triumph Street Triple since 2015 but I still own Bajaj Pulsar 180 DTSi Version 1 - 2004 model (with spoke wheels and analog meters).
It is going alright even now though last few years my brother is using it. Over such a long time, you have to replace few parts here and there - but it is still quite ok.
Bajaj bikes are not as refined as Honda but they perform better than equivalent Honda on road or even on race track. Spares are easy to get and relatively cheap. My old 180 DTSi can still beat new 160 cc bikes from other brands!! People think that once they bought a Bajaj or any Indian made motorcycle, they can abuse it and not maintain at all. After that they complain these are bad products. You maintain Bajaj bikes or Tata cars well like you would maintain a Honda or Yamaha, you will get good results from Bajaj also!!
You can't beat features and performance given by Bajaj. Look at Dominar 400 - it is awesome for that price!
One CRITICAL SUGGESTION
Use your Pulsar 200 NS for few days, and experience how the tyres are performing. See whether you got MRF or Eurogrip tyres on the bike originally. If you are going to ride it aggressively then Eurogrip tyres will not help you. MRF will do much better. But even MRF have their limitations.
Better idea is to remove OEM tyres and sell them to someone else (or package them neatly and preserve so that you can refit them at the time of selling off the bike - depends on your preference).
Go for Metzeler M7RR Tyres or Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2 tyres for this bike. You will see very dramatic improvement in handling and braking as grip levels of these tyres are way more than Eurogrip or MRF.
At the very least, you can buy MRF REVZ tyres that come with KTM Duke 200 - even those are quite good.
Don't be "kanjoos" when it comes to tyres, riding gear etc - these are life savers!

Wow. That's quite a bit of mileage. I too am in a dilemma between RTR200 and NS200. Has the NS given you any major problem to date?
If you know to tune the carb in perfect setting, then Ns200 would be an awesome bike for you.. I have done seven 600km rides with just tea breaks.. Bike felt smooth on 110 kmph cruising speed throughout the ride.. Love my NS till this day..
