  • Yamaha R3 vs Kawasaki Ninja 300

    Dear Riders,

I plan to buy a beginners sports bike and have narrowed down to Yamaha R3 and Ninja300. Unfortunately I'm unable to decide which one to buy. I've not test driven any of the these two. Any suggestions on which one to buy would certainly be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Query Approved

    Step 1: Test ride both.

Step 2: See which bike pulls at heartstrings.

    Step 4: Profit!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Do also consider, Which has better service center in your area for peace of mind. Pick any one, you will never go wrong.

@Sandeep99 Honestly, i don't think there is a clear winner to this particular contest of choosing between an R3 & Ninja 300R. Many people and experts around the world have tried to solve this puzzle and they are still contemplating about the winner.

Being a 300 owner myself i can vouch for it any given day. However, having ridden R3 extensively, all i can say is just two words "Awesome machine". As someone has already quoted, both are just truly amazing bikes which will make you grin from ear to ear and will keep you happy for a long period of time...

At the end of the day, are you a Kawa boy or a Yama boy is all that matters

            Cheers,

I think cost wise Yama boy would stay happy than Kawa as Kawasaki always costs pretty high when it comes to service. Apart from this both bikes doesn't have ABS which should be there in such powerful and costlier machines.

Bottom line is follow your heart and care about your pocket as well.

Re: Yamaha R3 vs Kawasaki Ninja 300

R3 makes more sense in India for the below reasons.

                1. Authorized Yamaha service centers all across country.(you will find the Kawasaki ones only in big enough cities).
                2. Availability of spare parts. Yamaha spares are easily available. For Ninja 300 I have known people who have been waiting for more than 2 months for as basic things as brake pads.
                3. Service and maintenance. Well it is pointless to compare the money spent on service on such premium and expensive bikes(relative to India), but still Yammy is much much cheaper to service and maintain than Kawa. The difference is much more pronounced if you crash and have to replace certain parts. After the cost difference, remember you will have to wait more than a few weeks to get the kawa parts(months maybe), while in case of Yammy the parts are always available from basic things like brake pads to fairings to body kits.

This is on top of my mind. Will update if I remember to add something.
                Choose wisely.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Thanks guys for your valuable inputs and suggestions.

As I've been following some news/rumors that with the new BS-IV regulations in place it is mandatory for the new set of superbikes to come with ABS.
Is there any truth in this? If so, should I probably wait for the new models to launch.

R3 is the better machine. But it does not conform to BS4 and has been removed from the showrooms. You will either have to wait for Yamaha to bring that back with ABS (as per govt. rules) or go with the Ninja 300 if you cant wait for few months.
There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. So ride safe when you are treading uncharted roads.

Brother, the new R3 is gonna be launched soon with BS4 regulations and although there are many small and big changes to the engine, exhausts (Catcons etc), DRLs and other things, the compulsory ABS is not a part of BS4 compliance. Neither has Yamaha or kawa made any announcements about ABS even as an option in these 2 bikes. So even the new BS4 compliant R3 is not going to have ABS, same goes for the Ninja.

There are rumors that ABS will be compulsory in the near future, but no concrete evidence or statement supports this claim. So you might be waiting for a very long time.
Sadly we don't even have ABS as an option for people who can spend more for added safety. You will have to make do without ABS.
