Re: Fz 25 VS Dominar 400. Advice please.
Rest assured, the buzziness is more prominent on the foot rests. Use a (fully) metal bar end weight to completely dampen handle bar vibes.Originally posted by abhishyam2016 View PostThe vibes itself aren't a problem. Cuz in the power band the engine will vibrate. But, if I'm cruising at 100-120 and the handle bar shakes like a royal Enfield, than it can make the hands numb.
Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

abhishyam2016 go for what your heart wants buddy! Both are very good bikes. Dominar vibes are not as high as Royal Enfield. Even RTR doesn't vibrate that much. In city, FZ is a better bet due to its better low and mid range while Dominar is awesome on the highways, you can cruise at triple digits speeds all day.

Re: Fz 25 VS Dominar 400. Advice please.
Well, I have not yet ridden the D400, but reviews tell me that the engine vibrations and harshness is equal to if not less than the Duke. If duke was fine for you then Dominar will make you happy. Many owners have complained about various panels vibrating at certain rpms, but that is not a big deal, as properly placed rubber washers and double sided tapes have solved a majority of vibrating panels.Originally posted by abhishyam2016 View PostThank you all, for prompt replies. @Ankey @mknaidu11 @vaishak rajiv. So what I've gathered is that
1. Abs is a big plus.
2. Fz 25 is good and all, but not that much of an upgrade.
I have a question, how much does the D400 vibrate? To give you a scale, the vibes from an RC390 are perfectly acceptable to me. But the vibes that an Apache 160 gives are painful. So if anyone has ridden one, could you describe?
If only I could get a test ride. The Bajaj dealer won't let me td!
I am really surprised that Bajaj won't let you TD, try contacting customer care and ask them how are you supposed to buy a bike costing more than 1.5 lakhs without test riding. They will force the showroom to provide you a test ride. One of the members did the same for TVS and the showroom sent a bike to his house. I hope this works for you too. Else find out owners from your city on XBHP and request them for a ride. I am sure they will be glad to help a brother out.
Do let us know what you finally decide. Happy bike hunting. Ride safe.I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Haha, I think some arm twisting is in order. The showroom just said that we don't have a vehicle for test ride. What kind of showroom doesn't have a test vehicle!Originally posted by Ankey View Post.

If you are upgrading to higher horses in 3-4 years than Dominor just fits in place. देसी बाइक, कैसे भी चलाओ, कहीं भी चलाओ, कभी भी चलाओ, मरम्मत तो हो ही जाती है। Forget vibes just enjoy the ride if you are not using bike for prolong duration of ride in one stretch.Avoid noise pollution. Avoid honking.

If have rode the dominor for around 400kms but have not rode the FZ25. So my statement on FZ25 is based on user reviews and experience on the smaller FZ.Originally posted by abhishyam2016 View PostHey fellows. I've decided to buy a new bike. My current motor is a 2011 Fz s. There are no problems with it, just that I'm bored of it. I mean, I'm all for reliability, but not so much reliability that I get bored. Also, the power of it is gentle and now I want something bigger. So I've test ridden the Fz 25, and I quite like it. It feels like a bigger more powerful Fz. It's everything I've ever wanted. But then, the competition is too worthy. Dominar, I've registered for a test ride since they don't have tests here yet. Now,i'm a college student, and ride daily to and fro college, to and fro friends houses, and general roaming. Apart from that, I do longer rides also, every weekend a 50-100 Kms ride, and a proper big ride (400 kms+) every few months. I am average tall at 5 feet 6 inches. Considering my riding pattern, I think the Fz would be the sensible choice. But I want more power, and also, ABS! For God's sake why Yamaha chose to omit ABS from this vehicle I don't understand. 3rd the headlights. These 3 are the only tipping points I have towards the dominar. But the Fz is lighter, cheaper to own and run, easier. Can you guys please shine some LEDs on this matter and suggest? Is ABS really that important? I loved the RC 390s engine, and I think I'd love the dominars as well, though detuned.
If you are ok with the vibes of an RC390/D390, the vibes on Dominor should not bother you much. Not sure of the exact rpm, but at speeds of 90+, the vibes do appear and are strong enough to make the mirrors vibrate. Found the brakes on the Dominar to be average too.
The FZ25 is supposed to have strong low end, good mid range, is light and being a Yamaha would be reliable too.
Would sum it up as :
Advantage Dominor :
1. Power : 14 bhp over the FZ25 is significant although the Yam has a good power to weight ratio.
2. Better cruising ability on the highways
3. Headlights are strong enough to light up a stadium (pun intended)
4. You wont get bored for sometime and look for another bike (depends
)
Advantage FZ :
1. Low end with good power to weight ratio make it a good city bike and a capable highway cruiser
2. Better Mileage
3. Engine Refinement
4. Yamaha brand

Re: Fz 25 VS Dominar 400. Advice please.
This is a damn confusing question that even I am looking an answer for. Design wise the Dominar looks really attractive whereas the headlamp of FZ25 doesn't compliment rest of the muscular body line (that's my perception). However, both the brands are very reputed, Bajaj served my father and my personal 9 years of experience with Yamaha has been quite satisfying.Originally posted by abhishyam2016 View PostHey fellows. Someone pointed that Dominar is a homegrown machine so it will have advantages in maintenance but Bajaj have a bad habit of bringing in new products with minor changes (that's very discomforting as I personally prefer to own the latest techs) whereas Yamaha (as FZ25 is doing good in sales) will not change it atleast for 2 years apart from bringin in Fazer and some new color schemes.. which results in availability of parts easier (atleast in metros)..
Though I will be upgrading next year, when I will have lots of reviews available. If I had to choose something today I would consider the maintenance that both the bikes require after few services as I do not like changing machines very often..Bilal Ahmed

Re: Fz 25 VS Dominar 400. Advice please.
I think maintenance won't be a big problem because I am usually prompt and cautious in that area (preventive maintenance) . My Yamaha is an example, and I guess my next bike will be too. However, I think the contenders have changed in my heart. Now it's more like D400 vs Duke 250. [emoji28] [emoji28]. So I've started window shopping on the Duke 250 thread as well, looking for problems/issues, good/bad points, etc.Originally posted by bilalans View PostThis is a damn confusing question that even I am looking an answer for. By maintenance I meant wear and tear of replacement parts and quality of parts being supplied by manufacturer.Originally posted by abhishyam2016 View PostI think maintenance won't be a big problem because I am usually prompt and cautious in that area (preventive maintenance) . The good thing is you are still considering Dominar
..
If you are considering D250 then I would suggest you to consider BMW G310R and Akula as well.Bilal Ahmed

And yes I want to consider these 2 bikes as well, but how much should one wait for BMW to get its shit together and launch the bike. I don't mean to say they launch an unfinished bike, but I'm really running out of patience. Also, my dad hasn't specified a budget to me, but then that doesn't mean I have a free hand. And i think anything above the Duke 250's price will be refused. And I also think that the BMW and the Akula will be expensive at 2lakh+.

One question - do you really need 373 ccs for commuting to and fro college and casual rides?A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Definitely not. But if I made such decisions based solely on need, I would be owning a splendor.Originally posted by krishna77 View PostOne question - do you really need 373 ccs for commuting to and fro college and casual rides?
*I understand that the brain should be dominant in making decisions, but not so much that it quells the desires of the heart.
So I'm discussing with you all, and trying to arrive at the best possible compromise between needs and wants. Also, the dominar is still an option, not confirmed yet.
