    Thinking to buy a used motorcycle, help me!!!!

    Hello All,

    I’m a rookie and thinking to get a used motorcycle.

    Currently I own a 2011 FZ16 (I bought it as a used one from my friend).

    I do a few 100km trips every now and then on my FZ16 and feel that it is very under powered while riding on highways.

    Plannings to go on a few long trips in upcoming days, so I need a motorcycle which can keep up at least constant 100kmph.

    My choices are -

    Yamaha R15 - 2013 or 14 (50k - 60k)
    KTM Duke 200 - 2013 or 14 (70 - 80k)

    I love Yamaha motorcycles for the built and the ride quality (I love my FZ16)

    Some of my friends say that R15 can give some terrible back pain to the riders and what not.

    Very confused, help me in choosing a better machine.

      I'll suggest for a KTM. It can do 100 kph easily, for a longer duration. R15 CAN give you terrible back pain, wrist ache, if the posture isn't correct. If I were to buy my next bike after FZ16 I would've opted for the Duke cuz the riding posture isn't too different from FZ16. Just, on the Duke, your butt will hurt. Gotta change the cushioning, or go for a comfortable alternate.
      You can get a '15 Duke 200 for around that budget, just gotta search.

        FZ to R15 is not a major upgrade, Just go for Duke or search for any alternative tourer if you find any discomfort with both

            Yeah, that makes sense. The only reason I consider R15 is that because it has very solid built quality and reliability.

              Get a CBR 250R. It meets all your requirements and would fit in your budget as well.

                +1.. CBR is a better upgrade option than R15..

                  For touring, CBR 250 is much better than r15. But finding a good second hand one is a bit hard. 2012 models can be had at around 85-95k.


                  I was of the opinion that the FZ16 could do 95 kmph all day. What's the max speed you could do on that used fz?

                        The R15 isn't much of an upgrade from your FZ16.Also,The seating Position is a track-focussed and wouldn't be all that comfortable on highways.You can try slightly old AS200.It's a great tourer.Has a semi- fairing up front to reduce the wind blast.6 Gears,Can do 100-110kmhr all day long.Its currently discontinued.Build Quality won't be Yamaha levels though.There are some fairing vibrations.Another bike is an Avenger 220.It has a different-tuned Pulsar 220 Engine.Very comfortable.Only that it doesn't have a 6th gear.

                        The CBR 250 is the best option here but I don't think you can find one for that price.You can wait and search.If possible,Get the ABS Version.It is a life saver in highways.

                          You have a bike which can do 90 kmph. Now you want to spend 70 grand to do 100 kmph.
                          Not sure if that is a wise investment. Buy some riding gear, new chain sprocket, change oil, tyres and save the money for the next generation of bikes.

                            I own a dominar and sitting posture is very good!

                              Used Dominar wont come in his budget.... neither would a CBR 250r with ABS.
                              Best bet is to look for a used CBR with 25k kms on the odo. Those can be had for around 80-90k INR.
