  • Which bike to buy?

    Hi Guys,

I am 35 years old, height - 5'10" and weigh 92 kgs(however trying to reduce). Currently based in mumbai. Previous experience in bikes - suzuki samurai and hero honda splendor plus. Haven't been riding around in bikes lately but would like to get back to riding especially for short to medium distance tours and occasional in-city travel. Not necessarily doingndaily commute

Looking to buy upto a quarter litre bike. For both solo and occasional pillion travel(pillion comfort is a must to please the better half )

    Considering the below :-

    1. Yamaha Fazer / FZ 25 - TD ed the FZ 25(Fazer not yet available for TD), very good bike in terms of handling and comfort of driving. However no ABS and lack of the 6th gear felt like a let down.

    2. Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 - could not do a test drive. On paper looks a very good bike with ABS option.

    3. Used Honda CBR 250R - Since this is discontinued, request feedback on buying an used bike. Have driven my friend's CBR 250 R and found it to be a very comfortable and powerful ride.

Let me know your feedback on the above 3 or any other suggestions you may have before i take a final call.

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

CBR's parts availability is bound to suffer, if a BS-IV variant isn't launched. If you are okay with DIYs and jugaads CBR isn't a bad choice, based solely on performance and refinement.
RS200 may be a better option, IMO. I've ridden one and found it to be smoother than the CBR. Parts availability isn't and issue and being a Bajaj, it's cheap to maintain.
Dominar 400 is a good option too.

Thanks siddhanth! I did not like the bulkiness and weight of the dominor. I want something easy both in the city as well on the highway.

          Have an used bike offer for 2011 Honda cbr 250R @ 1lakh vs brand new fz25 / fazer 25 @ 1.4lakhs-1.5 lakhs.

I know it is not right to do a price comparison of a used bike with a brand new bike. But want some light thrown on the Honda servicing for 250R especially after its discontinuation.

What should i do? Really confused.

The price of cbr you are looking at is absurd the right price should be anywhere near 70k I think.

One lakh rupees for a six year old bike is really pricey even though it is cbr. Due to the age you will be looking at lot of rubber parts at their end of their age or hardened. you may say it is mechanically excellent condition but parts like battery, tyres should be changed. They are not easy on your pocket as well.

No offence to CBR owners, the pillion comfort is not that good. The pillion leans mostly on the rider(may like this though).

It is a wonderful tourer but I doubt it's practicality for city rides.
If you are ok with money just buy one new bike at one lakh .you will be stress free and happy. The joy of riding one out of showroom is unmatched.

The fact that it is discontinued does not give any confidence for availability of spare parts as it has sold very less when compared to fazer or fz25.

As a member of this forum we are particular about our machines, whenever a new niggle shows up you will regret and question your decision even after spending 1 lakh.

Agreed!! It is too much for a 2011 CBR!!

I find it very much comfortable! Especially after riding Ninja 250!!

I ride Ninja 650 in city! In-fact, many use CBR250 for city and touring!!

1lac for 2011 CBR is high. I got a Oct 2016 CBR 250R (Non abs) with 5.5k kms on ODO for 1.1lac.

I didnt face any issue related to spares.

Hi Guys , thanks for al your inputs! I am just waiting for the TVS Apache RR310 S (Akula) launch as well to finally decide on my purchase.

I hear the launch will happen before the end of the year. I am especially thrilled because it has the same same engine as the BMW G 310 S.

                      Re: Which bike to buy?

                      Hi guys ,

Like i promised, i waited for the akula (apache 310 RR) and i have booked my bike.

Wait... Not the Apache but a BS 3 CBR 250R . It is not that i did not like the new apache. But i felt i would not need that much power to start with and also i was looking at about closing something in the 1.5 Lakh range ( i would have pushed my self if the OTR cost had been less than 2 Lakhs plus the deliveries could take upto end of January or february is what i understand and even the test ride bikes will take a long time to come and i was becoming impatient).

I got a good deal on an unused CBR from a dealer directly ( which was pre-registered) so i decided to go ahead with it.

Why not the FZ 25 ? - I did a couple of more test drives. I really felt the bike was a bit under powered for a 250 CC bike (also the lack of a 6th gear will be felt in the highways) and for my height i felt there was a bit of a pain in my hands for a longer drive.

                        Congrats on the new bike

But I'm surprised to know that the dealer still has the stock of the old bike. May I know what price they are selling the bike at.

Also since the bike is lying idle for so long make sure everything is in place before taking the delivery

Sure, i will do the check. The bike will be covered under honda warranty.

It costed me all inclusive about 1.5 L.
