  • Help me choosing a suitable bike

    Hey guys!!

    I am Prashanth from chennai.

    30yr old, 6 ft, 82 KG.

My usage would be mostly weekend runs on highways 200-300 kms per week with occasional office commute during weekdays.

I am looking at an entry level 250-400cc category.

    1. Dominar:

Not happy with it as it doesn’t give a big bike feel. And also the fact that its become a cliche these days.

    2. RE:

Again, this is a cliche. Every 10th bike I spot is a Royal Enfield.

    3. YZF-R3:

Again, Lack of big bike feel. Weight less and looks small when a 6 footer like me is on the bike.

    4. KTMs:

Nope. Aint my cup of tea. Obviously for the reasons that its too light and that makes it look like powerful which it is not exactly too.

    5. Hyosung:

Love the big bike feel. A feel of a super bike. Talking about GT250R. Downer is lowest capacity, 250cc however I like the stability due to its weight. Loved this and one of my top choice. Of course spares are rare and service is costly. And pricy too. ABS version around the corner expected 4.2 OTR chennai. Too aggressive seating. But a sure shot head turner especially the new green color.

    6. Benelli 302R:

Love this bike too. Flattering exhaust note. Only downer is that the bike looks like a fazer on drugs. Huge front and a rather contradictory small rear with hell a lot of gap between the rear wheel and mudguard makes it look a bit odd. Dual disc and ABS yet lacks the puch of good braking. Similar to hyosung maintenance is a bit pricy.

    7. Ninja 300:

Beautiful machine, costlier spare of all the choices listed. Lack ABS at the price point is the only thing that makes me not to choose this.

    To conclude:

I am literally left with three if not two choices, the 302R, Ninja 300 and GT250R.

Need some more inputs from the experts here to help me.

I am looking for a sportsbike with a big bike feel, heavy, head turner, Normal on pocket for maintenance and a reliable choice.

    Budget: can stretch upto 4.3L

PS: not interested on Cruiser models as we already have one in family. The Hyosung Aquila Pro.

I am slightly leaned towards benelli. Heard ninja 400 is around the corner. But might go over budget.

If you are open to buying used bike, then check out Ninja 650. Would give you everything you desire, however maintainance will be high.
Stay away from Hyosung, too many issues and very poor resale value.
Benelli too had its fair share of issues related to quality.

          +1

Used Ninja 650 would be a well deserved option! Coming from a person who recently upgraded from Ninja 250 to Ninja 650 and trust me! I dont regret the decision at all!

There are plenty of good bikes available in the used bike market!

On the other hand! Since Ninja 400 is around the corner, Ninja 300 will get a decent discount (Assuming) as they will discontinue the N300!

Are you sure the R3 doesn’t feel like a big bike! Because I certainly felt it looks bigger than Ninja 250 and Ninja 250 gave me a big bike feel

Seemed odd to me as well. I have the Ninja 650 and R3 and I can say the R3 is no slouch. TBH the R3 handles way better than the Ninja would ever do as its lighter and more agile.

Oh well! Yeah you cannot compare a touring bike with R3! No way!

The Ninja 250 (which I still have) definitely handles way better than the Ninja 650! But when it comes to touring! Ninja 650 would be my choice! Comfortable seats, does 100 @ 4.5k rpm and when i need to overtake! I dont need to shift down! Just twist the throttle and i can overtake any given moment! While the FE is almost same when compared with Ninja 250! Well, a little better than N250! LoL!!

Ninja 250 sounds beautiful! I love that eargasm it gives me every time i take her out for a spin! Unfortunately, i cannot maintain 2 Ninjas so I am selling mine of to a friend (fellow xBhpian) who loves to take care of his bikes [emoji4]

And yes! I found the Ninja 650 easy to ride in city! It has been more than 40 days since i bought the bike and i have munched more than 3k kms! I did buy a used Ninja 650!! Using her as a daily commute to office!! Ninja 250 and ZMR stay home and they take the well deserved rest!!
