  • Bike for daily commute

I am employed in a job where there are frequent transfers to villages, towns, cities every 2-3 years. Currently my daily commute is about 55kms to village from city. I own a Passion Pro 2016 model & have driven it 15000kms. I am 6 ft tall & weigh 90 kgs. Passion pro is very uncomfortable for me. While riding, I tend to rest my legs on the pillion footpegs. Also I have piles problem & whenever i use the bike for office commute continuously over a month then i develop piles pain for which i take medications. I also own car & sometimes i use that then i dont suffer any piles pain.
Hence, I need a bike that is most comfortable. I will be using it depending on my posting. If its rural then we have these rough roads.
After driving a 100cc for 1.5 yrs , there is need for some power, atleast 150cc. The bike should be made for people 6ft and above. Since as per my limited knowledge cruisers are the most comfortable, I’ve shortlisted few cruisers below:

    1. Avenger 220 cruise
    2. RE Thunderbird 350 (no RE in family yet, new experience. No knowledge about RE)
    3. UM motorcyles

Anyone is free to add any other bike which may suit my needs.

You should check with your doctor if you can even ride a motorcycle with your medical condition. Cruisers are the worst in this regard. Since none of your body weight is taken by your legs, all the body weight is on your butt/saddle.

A motorcycle where your legs are reasonably straight and under you where you can take your body weight on your legs, that is ideal.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Today I rode the Avenger 220 2015 model & all the claims that I read that it is comfortable are proved wrong to me since as you said I am feeling all the weight on upper portion of my hips & it is paining. My condition is fine, doctor has given permission to ride a motorcycle.
I need suggestions that which bike would be comforting for my physique. I’ve read about Unicorn being very comforting. I’ll test ride it soon.

Among the 150s the Unicorn is indeed a bike with one of the softest suspensions. Unlike the 'sportier' 150s which are a pain in the ....

You can also check out the Hunk, though it is a bit dated.

Does it mean I should remove cruisers from my list ? Will RE Thunderbird, UM motorcycle, etc will all hurt my butt?

The cruisers are never going to be comfortable for someone in your position.

If you are willing to go for RE, then you can probably check out the other models except the Thunderbird and Continental GT!

I went to the RE showroom where they told me that currently they don't have stock of BSIV vehicles for test riding. I requested them for a long test ride for 25kms they said test rides are only for 1 km , there are experience rides but that also only for 5-10 kms. Upon requesting, he said we'll ask with our supervisor and tell you tomorrow. So he might arrange for a BSIII vehicle for long test ride.
I also went to the honda showroom where the sales guy said he could allow test ride for only 1-2 kms. He didn't accepted any request for a long ride. I'll wait for the RE guys call.
Also, I want to know whether RE bikes are good for commuting?

That is unfortunately the case in India. No one gives proper test rides. They expect people to buy a machine without test riding. And we end up doing just that!

Honda is known for not bothering with test rides, since people buy their bikes on the basis of just the brand name.

If you have NO idea about REs, then don't buy it!

                    Re: Bike for daily commute

For your height, both Avenger and UM will make you feel cramped - which will only increase your discomfort level.
A Royal Enfield has some vibrations - no denying the fact that the vibrations will make you uncomfortable. Also, the weight can land you in trouble.
I'd suggest, go for a 150cc commuter which will have equal blend of power, FE and comfort. In that category, there are a few very good options but Unicorn and FZ2.0 will offer you the best of all the requirements. Gixxer is a good bike no doubt but the riding posture is on the sportier side.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

I haven't test rode unicorn but I did FZ2.0 few months back. Its seats were very rigid. I don't think they will be comfortable for commuting. I have shortlisted few bikes around 150-200cc bikes:

                      1. Honda CB Unicorn 150
                      2. Hero Achiever 150
                      3. Bajaj Pulsar 150
                      4. Bajaj Pulsar 180
                      5. Yamaha SZ-RR
                      6. TVS Apache RTR 160

I'll decide on RE Classic 350 once I do a test ride. There's a new colour of Gunmetal Grey where there is rear disc brakes.

I test rode classic 350 for about 1 km so what little could I gather was the bike vibrates. It may be comfortable I am not sure. Generally my stance in passion is such that my heels are lying downwards due to its short height. I wasn’t doing that in classic but it was too short to decide. There was no unicorn available for test ride but I checked by sitting on a new bike that it was short for me.

Unicorn/SZ-RR can be your ideal choice. My suggestion - go for a bike rental to get a comprehensive feel about the bikes you shortlist. This way, you can get a longer ride.

Which model 150 or 160? Is this bike ideal for tall riders?

150 is a better one imo.
Yes taller riders don't feel cramped on i.
