  • Help needed to choose bike below 2 lakhs

    Hey everyone,

Please help me out to choose the best bike under Rs 2 lakhs based on my requirement mentioned below.

    1. The most important requirement - Pillion Comfort.
    2. My height is Just 165cms (5'5 feet), and weight on a heavier side :P, age 28. I need a bike on which my legs don't struggle to stay on ground
    3. Should be at least a 200cc bike ( I am upgrading from Pulsar 150, which I owned for 6 years ). Now I looking for little power.
    4. I will be mostly using bike for daily commuting and occasional 200-300 kms weekend rides. (80% daily commuting)
    5. Budget strictly under 2 lakhs
    6. ABS is must.
    7. Approx 20-30 kms daily ride. Monthly 1000+ kms (Bike should be able to occasionally stretch 500+ kms rides, not a priority though.)
    8. I am based out of Pune and would be taking out bike for rides to Lonavala, Lavasa and other nearby places located at a height, so the bike should be strong enough to explore such destinations.
    9. Spare parts cost, servicing costs should be nominal and parts availability should not be an issue.

Few bikes that I have already tried and which I think are not made for me

    1. Dominar ( Powerful, easy to ride but seat height is a bit more for me )
    2. Avenger 220 ( Pillion seat is pathetic, my wife asked to take a halt after every 50 kms )
    3. I am not a RE fanboy, so no suggestion from RE. ( Such an outdated bike :P )

A couple of bikes that I have my eyes on

    1. Apache 200 4v Race edition ( Seat height 790mm, I think I can manage that )
    2. Duke 250

For both the bikes above, I am not much aware of pillion comfort.

I will be buying the bike in a month or so.. If there are any upcoming bikes that you think I should wait for, please do suggest me.

      Ditch Duke 250

      Test ride both 200 4V and 200NS

Why not consider Honda CBR250R ABS (cbr costs 2.05 or so on road)

          Thanks for the quick reply.

I have booked a test ride for RTR 200. In Pulsar I am no more interested as my previous bike was a Pulsar 150.
Anyway I don't think NS would be suitable for my height.

Just one thing, can rtr 200 easily crush between 80-100?

I didnt consider is as I thought that it's a outdated bike. Considering the price point, honda is asking more than it's offering.
Still I will get a test ride.

Don't go for Duke 250 as it has a seat height of 835mm, similar to the D390, you could try the apache 200, that bike will be perfect for your height and 80-100kmph cruising speed won't be a problem.
However make sure to test ride the bike around 6000-8000rpm to check for vibes.

How about cbr25r? Is it still relevant..
Or any other bike launching in near future, may be around in 2-3 months..

Re: Help needed to choose bike below 2 lakhs

Few things that I am still confused of

                  1. Does fuel injection makes much of a difference than carburetor? ( to be honest I am a noob in this area )
Reading and knowing about both of these, I think that it would have been much better if there was a variant with FI+ABS+Slipper clutch (Pirelli tyres would be cherry on top)

                  2. Also, Does ABS make much difference? I mean should I be going for FI variant of Apache 200 4v or the one with carburetor and ABS?

Anyway, any idea whether TVS would be launching FI+ABS anytime soon?

Fuel injection just makes the bike more efficient and gives more accurate fueling and the bike will feel a tad smoother than compared to carburetor. The FI system I would say is more reliable in the long run but by chance something happens the carb is more easier to fix compared to fi systems where not every mechanic can work with. Coming to abs, I would say it a major life saver, but if you can handle normal braking that differs from person to person but I can say easily abs is a life saver in a unpredictable country like India, I would say give more importance to abs than carb or FI systems, just my 2 cents.

As already mentioned, Apache 200 is a good option for you.
But, take a test ride with FZ25 before finalizing.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

                        Thanks for your quick explanation.
Anyway, are there any bikes available with FI and ABS and fall under my creteria?

Actually dominar is one but I have height and weight issues with that bike.
CBR is also a good option, but many do tell that it is not VFM and also too old to look at.

Sure. I will book a test ride for FZ25. Although I dont like its styling, still if its a good contender I will have a test ride.. can compromise with looks for better comfort(if it offers).

AS is discontinued. I've ridden and rode on as pillion on an NS 200 and it's not that comfortable for pillion IMO. RS 200 is a good bike with ABS but don't know about the pillion comfort. Also do check if you'd be comfortable with them since you're on the shorter side.
