  • Upgrading from Honda Unicorn 150 - Please help me.

Hi everyone. I am planning to upgrade from my unicorn 150. My requirements are listed below
    1. I ride mostly in city. So I need a bike with good low end torque and mid range. The bike should be able to easily cruise at 60 to 80 kmph without any little stress on engine all day.
    2. Servicing and maintenance costs should be the lowest.
    3. Comfortable and spacious for both rider and pillion.(Hate stiff suspensions due to my low back pain problems)
    4. Mileage of around 40-45 in city and 45+ in highway.
    5. Smooth and refined engine.
    6. Excellent build quality
    7. Long engine life as I am planning to keep the bike for another 8 to 10 years.

My personal choice cb hornet 160 as it ticks most of my requirements but read in many articles that cb hornet is just a cb unicorn 150 version 2 and lacks low end punch like gixxer or apache. Don't want to go for gixxer for its poor pillion seat and for apache 160 or 180 for their vibrations and lack of engine refinement like honda. Not interested in yamaha fz 150 also. I am also interested in pulsar 200ns but concerned about its mileage and bajaj reliability for long term ownership. Also concerned about its service and maintenance costs. I am really confused [emoji17]. Please provide your suggestions.

Go for rtr 200 abs. It has got comfortable suspension and seat than ns. Tvs is more reliable than bajaj. Very good engine refinement and it has got oil cooling [emoji4] also compression ratio is less than hornet so less heat generation and less stressed engine [emoji4][emoji4]

Also check fz 250 it's an excellent bike. Claimed mileage is about 40kmpl. Large and spacious seat. Superb refinement , after all it's a yamaha [emoji4]

Its good but it has got more compression ratio than the hornet. So, i think itll generate more heat and engine harshness. Though it has oil cooler , iam not sure about engine roughness after engine gets heated.

              Unicorn is most refined because it has least compression ratio in 150cc segment bikes. Uni 150 =9.1 compression ratio, fz 150= 9.5 gixxer = 9.8 ,hornet/ xblade/ uni 160 = 10.01 and rtr 160 = 10.15:1 ( the highest) fz 250 = 9.8 with oil cooling, rtr 200= 9.7 with oil cooling

Yeah true. That why I find it difficult to upgrade to any bike from unicorn. It satisfies all of my requirements except for outright performance. Its almost near to perfect motorcycle for a commuter. Even after clocking 28000 kms, the engine is very refined and hassle free. I should make sure that I should not regret after selling my unicorn.

For a moment I thought your Uni has aged enough to buy a new bike (which keeping your requirements in mind points me to another 150cc bike) but its fairly new and you are looking for something similar natured bike. How do you call it an upgrade then? Since it has done 28k only its still a solid commuter good for many more years.

If you are really looking for a performance upgrade then it should be bare minimum a 200cc. In that you have NS200 or Apache 200. One bike that bike comes super close to your original requirement would be Xtreme200 if its getting launched anytime soon.

I would suggest you wait for the xTreme 200

The reviews have been great for it during the event in BIC

It would be a better option than the hornet and any other 150-180cc bike
