  • Upgrade from Unicorn 150 (Or should i?)

I currently own Unicorn 150 bought in 2013.Clocked nearly 80000 KMs.No major problem with the bike still a good performer. But i am bored with it now.and its main problem is its headlight.
I travel daily 50KMs (25 up n Down - office commute).i dont go to weekend rides as such.70% of my commute is on highway.its just named as highway but in reality its a narrow 2 way lane so rarely anyone can go above 60 in a two wheeler.Road quality is also bad and with lots of turns.

My main problem is night commute as its headlight is AC and very inadequate throw.otherwise its top notch with good mileage.

I rarely go above 60 in any kind of two wheelers so i dont require speed demons.
I need just good commuter with minimum of 40KMs of mileage.
Which has good headlights withadequate throw and DC headlights.
I myself shortlisted 2 bikes Avenger street 220 and RE Electra ES 350.i feel these two suit my requirements.
I considered many naked, sports tourers like cbr 250,apaches,FZs,Gixxers..but i dont like these type of bikes.

I live in Mangalore its a Tier 2 city so servicing a bike is also bit problem.

I am lean/thin built man also. Say around 54KGs with 5.8 Height.so will i be able to handle 190KGs bullet?
Kindly pitch in with your thoughts.

    Topic Approved.

Both bikes you're shortlisting are cruisers. Please know more about them, their balance, braking practices on them, etc. before finalising, as you've been riding Unicorn so far.
All these bikes have slightly more braking focus on the rear brakes, and not so much on front, specially the Avenger.

You'll be able to handle a Royal Enfield no problem, if you're looking at a straight highway ride. On twisties and on slow commutes, it will do ok, but it might get tiring for you to manage it... specially for longer city rides.
Otherwise, no problem. And hey, the rider footpegs may strike your feet while slowing down (on RE), be wary of that.

The RE is better on torque levels, which means its engine will not fade down in terms of force when you're in higher gears, or against head winds or carrying a heavy pillion/ load.

I would suggest Avenger for now, as I've seen RE owners facing issues with servicing and reliability.

Hardcore RE owners who know their bike well, are able to spend a lot of quality moments with their bike... but its clearly not for everyone.

I am scraping bullets from that list as of now.Its too heavy to move from parking lot.I tried with one of my freinds. Its good to ride but maintenance and weight put me off.
I in my life never done any DIY for either bicycles or motorcycles.depend on SCs for everything so bullet is not for me i think.

i saw CBR250R in flesh yesterday.I liked it.i was not very fond of Sporty bikes but CBR lookwise not bad.heard good reviews about it in forums.

I just want to know about stock headlights of CBR.how is its throw?is it adequate enough?
Fuel efficiency?if its around 35 to 40 in normal riding condition is good enough for me.

How is the build quality of latest Avengers??If looked after well will it serve say around 5 to 6 years??
How is ride comfort especially seating posture, does it give back pain in longer run?

It has LEDs but what is the output? If it is something similar to that of FZ25 or Fazer25 then not worth it!! But yes, very reliable!!

Mileage of my friend’s cbr250 was close to 45 kmpl when he filled the tank with speed petrol! With unleaded regular fuel, it returned close to 35 kmpl!

Yes, surprised us as well when we accidentally filled his bike fuel tank with hi speed petrol!
