Its a one time investment so I would implore you to spend some more and consider the Honda Shine. It's reliable, well built, looks decent, comfortable ride and has good mileage. Hitting 65kmpl with a decent riding style is quite easy on the Shine.
P.S.:Pranay da,a friend of mine owns the latest Shine with disc brakes. Its quite niggle free from what I have heard from him.

Hey Pranay, Splendors can cruise even at 70 kmph quite easily and rider need not fear at that spped, higher speeds are not good on Splendor b'cos of safety factor (geometry/skinny tyres/drum brakes and relatively high seating), if you talk of pure speed Splendor can touch 90+ easily. Last month, I was cruising my Alto at 90kmph on Bellary road, splendor with pillion sped past my car (but that's xtreme case of splendor, not recommended) !!
@insanebiker : I was making sure the Anand Sharma gets value for his money, felt I should recommend highly proven one...your points are right

@Nightwing, wondering where the Gladiator stands these days, in comparison.

Shine was on my radar, before I went for Gladi. In those days few Shines I rode vibrated like a concrete mixer at 60kmph+. The Gladi cruised easily at 70-85k compared to that. Not sure of the later day Shines & CBF Stunners.

The first lot of shines had vibes post 60.Which translates to the TS's cruising speed.

I havent ridden the latest one though!(Even though Honda hasnt upgraded it)

            Bro that isnt called cruising!

Crusing speed is a speed where the bike is unstressed and relaxed , in top gear.

I rode a honda shine for close to 100 kms during a ride to Madikeri, sooper refinement and the seating position on it is the best. No back pains at all. Go for the shine, in Bangalore the honda shine sells very well.

Why not??? I'v ridden a 100cc HH at speeds higher than those.

I don't think there should be any problem at all about cruising at 65 kmph for 35 km.

                  Guys...
Please do not mix splendour with Super splendour NXG bla bla.
Super splendour is the worst motorcycle from Hero Honda.
I am yet to see a Super splendour older than a year and in average (forget good) condition. Most of the owners really cry for buying it in perception of old splendour. And yes Super splendour has worst 125 cc engine, in the 125 cc category.

This is not a suggestion, mind you, its a warning.. dont go for any new model splendour.

It stands on the track. Its for those adrenaline junkies who like to dive into every corner in comfort . Who like to rev their engine and shift to fifth only after they have left every other 125cc behind.
And to hell with the mileage.

Mileage goes down drastically, u ll get a figure such that u would feel sorry for buying a 97cc.

Friends I had once splendor in my life. I purchased a brand new silver color bike in 2002 and drove it for 1.5 yrs and sold it for 25k. It was the worst experience of my life bcoz for the first 6 months it was quite ok....60-65 millage figure but after that engine leakage....clutch plate problem...vibration....uncofortable at higher speed etc....and milage-50. So I dont even consider HH bikes after that experience. I simply hate them. And after sales of HH in our area is worst and they dont even respect their customers. The reason for it is that in our area most people still go for HH bikes blindly n they have good sales figures. I was one among them in 2002.

Now I have Bajaj Discover 2004 model, more than 75,000 kms. covered and gonna sell it. It was an average performer with milage of around 60 but not so good at comfort level especially sitting position....it gives me back aches because 2-3 times in a week i need to drive up to 200km. even in a day.

As far as budget is concerned I can easily spent up to 60,000.
40k I wrote because I was not considring any other bike but now I heard about Yamaha gladiator that its a good bike with decent milage figure of 60 and suitable for highway riding (I want highway performer) for just 45,000 only and fully loaded with self, disk etc.

Even I thought for Suzuki GS150R but sales guys told that it will cost u around 59,000 on-road (not a concern) and its milage is around 50 (concern). I test-ride it and it was the best among those I rode until now but milage is a concern.

I don't recall the fuel efficiency figures now, but I definitely do not recall any drastic reduction in fuel efficiency at those speeds. It was of course bit less than the optimal speed (40 - 45 kmph)... but nothing drastic.

I don't know if the current crop of 100cc bikes behave differently.

Frankly speaking, selling a Discover to buy a Gladiator doesn't make sense to me. Not to mention the mileage goes for a toss whenever you push it(the Gladiator) hard.
Use the money that you get from selling the Discover and get a Unicorn. That,in my opinion,is a more sensible upgrade.

Bro, if u need 60 kmpl mileage, u cant look at 150's. So stick to 125s and 135's.

Test ride the XCD 135 and check out the comfort levels.

Else u can look at HH Acheiver. It is the most fuel efficient 150.

Neither does it to me. Just for the change / upgrade to be worthy for its own sake, its got 2B the Uni. You can never go wrong with the Uni & will live your life without regrets.
