  • Another which bike thread :/

Hi all, long time lurker here who reads most of the threads here. Yes, I've read the most but unfortunately, my fickle mind is causing me sleepless nights in choosing a bike, so here we go. I'm asking the same question again. What bike suits me? Been pondering this for 3 months already and now decided that anyway I'll get one in the ABS era. (Apr 19)

    1. Budget - Under 2 lacs
    2. Age - 31
    3. Height - 5' 6", with a near 50-50 distribution above and below the hip. That means, not long legs.
    4. Weight - 72kg
    5. Intended usage - Office commute and occasional long distance (Not touring, just a visit to the village 200kms away, say once in 3 months)

    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement - Yes, very important. I would opt for 80kmpl on a 150cc but as that will be available only in the year 2050, I can take whatever is best out there for now. Say 50kmpl?

    7. City & Highway percentage usage - 85% highway
    8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running - 100km per day, 2500kms per month
    9. City / Town /Village of residence - Avadi, Chennai.
    10. Brand / Bike type preference (if any) - No Honda and RE. Anything else is fine.
    11. Pillion comfort - I can bear with 60% comfort - 40% uncomfort (at the worst). Not less than that.

I do wish some USP on the bike. I don't want something bland like a Unicorn (although that's what best fits my requirement, I don't like it). It could be premium build like the Apache; or VFM like Dominar. Or anything else for that matter. Top speed is not a priority; comfort, mileage, maintenance are; and then some bit of performance (Not the out-of-the-world like the Dukes, just something decent). I will be taking the bike first thing after Mar'19 when the ABS kicks. So goes without saying, ABS will be default criteria. I'm just starting to evaluate from now (I don't think its too soon, 3 months will fly away). I want something new and fresh (Not Pulsar 220 or CBR 250R or RE) - only exception being Avenger (Oh how I wish there was an Avenger 250 or 300 ). Not bulky bikes - that puts the UM, RE and any such Haathis out of the list.

What do I have in mind? Quite few. List below. I've read all the reviews and the last bits of what I have in mind, I'm putting down here. But what I can't really know is the mileage part.
What I really want more than the number is, a bike that will not fall off a cliff suddenly beyond 60km speed. If it gives mileage of 50kmpl at 60km, then I would expect say 45-50kmpl at 80km speed. In that sense, consistency and a broader range of efficiency.

Dominar - Only stopper is mileage and weight. I love everything else about this bike.
Avenger - Wish there was a 250 or 300 cc variant.
Apache 200 RTR - Nothing particularly negative; may be mileage?
FZ25 - Argh, the lights. I can probably change it and live with that?
Mojo - No idea what's good or bad here. Service and spare parts are the cons may be?

So, if you guys, especially whoever own these bikes, can advice me on the "consistency of the mileage" part - I would be thankful. And feel free to add anything else you wish, except the "this thing vibrates" part - I don't care about that, every bike will vibrate. They're all pistons and petrol, not wings and feathers. So, anything else apart from that....

I think you have set a very good budget but unfortunately, your requirement of mileage will be the deciding factor, 50kmpl avg is for 150-160 cc bikes. Although if you're inclined towards 40kmpl+ there are options like Avenger 220, RTR 200, FZ25. Dominor and Mojo won't give you that much of an avg owing to their bigger pots. However, if you're willing to go for FZ16, Gixxer/SF, Hornet, Apache 160 4V you can get mileage of 45-50 kmpl.

Hornet can give 50kmpl in highway at speeds of 80 to 90 kmph, I've got it myself, in city it's like a normal bike and in highways it's comfortable in doing 80 to 90 kmph with pillion!

If you're highly inclined towards 50kmpl, try Apache 160 4V. It's a fresh new design and has good power and torque.

Get an Apache 160 4v as Zapps mentioned. It has awesome power that is more than and other bike in the segment. It will definitely give a mileage of 45+ kmpl. Very refined engine; no vibes (though you mentioned you don't care about them) even at 7k+ rpm and even after that, what you get is only a slight buzz.

Thanks. I can settle down for 40 or 35 but like I said, I prefer a "fairly-consistent-mileage-across-a-broader-range". Hitting a 40 at 60km speed is not useful when it drops to 25 at 100km on the highway. Instead, 40 at 60km and 32-35 at 100km is much better. In that sense, I'm looking for 200cc+ bike for the occasional power needs and still be happy through my commute. Can you advice with respect to that on these bikes?

I'm more inclined towards the RTR 200 vs the FZ25. I want to know the difference between these two in terms of that broader-mileage-range aspect.

In that case, RTR 200 is better as it offers better efficiency at highways however the FZ25 does 45 in city while due to the gearing it works at higher rpm at higher speeds, it gets down to 30-35 kmpl on highway.

Thanks guys. Yeah, its RTR vs FZ on a tight race for now. But 10-15kmpl between city vs highway is a bit high. Considering my highway run is more, RTR is what even I'm definitely leaning towards until now. We're looking at spy pics of FZ v3 and may be if it comes by March, then have to see how that changes things.

Bro.... Get the facts right. The FZ25 has taller gearing when compared to any other 200cc bike. It also offers 35-40kmpl on highways despite being a 250cc bike. The engine is not rev happy though. It behaves like a bike running on lean carb.
