Re: New Bike - moving on from 125cc to 150/160cc

About the CBR, I haven't checked the Honda showrooms yet. Planning to do soon because today I came across an article saying X-Blade ABS version has just been launched.

    Will update the status soon

OP, get test ride of a few motorcycle to get to know them. Then you can decide what you want form a motorcycle and which one fits the bill. Ideally, best in 150-160 cc class would be Hornet/FZ/Apache 160 4V/Pulsar 150, but there are other which are in need territory like Apache 180/ Pulsar 180/ Xtreme 200R.

        5. Intended usage - weekdays office commute, weekends on highway
        6. Fuel Efficiency requirement - 50kmpl in city, hopefully 35kmpl on highway
        7. City & Highway percentage usage - about 250 km on highway every 2nd weekend, rest ~200 km in city.
        8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running - daily ~15 km
        9. City - Lucknow
        10. Brand / Bike type preference - should be easily serviceable in tier 2 cities
A move from 125 to 150-160 is still in commute region which might be a tiny bit more fun if a right bike is chosen.

Based on fun factor - Gixxer
Based on service and spares and ease - Pulsar 150(any of the 3 variants they have)

As someone quoted above, Bajaj has wide reach in spares and they are very cheap to start with too.
You just need to finish the warranty period or free services and find a good mechanic outside.

Example - general servicing(except oil change) and coneset replacement of my 220 costed me 630 Rupees only. This includes labour too and was done outside Bajaj.

Idea is to finalise a bike (checking reviews and TDs) within 2018 and get delivery on 2019 Jan or by Christmas this year. Is it that bad idea? People are telling me to wait till March since that is when the newer variants will enter.

I am doubtful that if I wait for the newer variants, I will have to wait for a lifetime. Is it worth waiting till March 2019?

I guess they mean the ABS variants. If you are dead set on ABS, you can wait till April 2019 or else buy one now.

Almost finalised on the Pulsar 150 Twin disc guys. Checks all boxes, mileage is added advantage along with the practical pillion seat that does not affect the sporty look.

Will test ride most probably on Christmas holidays and let you know.

Should have gone for the 150 base variant, not classic. Other than the rear disc, there is not much practical change on the model. The mileage is lesser when compared to the outgoing model, 45kmpl in city under normal riding, even after three servicing. The old model used to return close to 50kmpl. It's a small figure but does matter to some people. And coming the pillion seat, I think I've heard of more people liking the single piece seat on the old model when compared to the split on the 150TD and 180.

Plus of P150 TD : sporty-ish stance, disc brake at both ends(easier in terms of upkeep and miles better braking than drum), fuel efficiency should be around the same as other competitors, wider tyre helps with the required grip.

Minus : seat is like P180/P220 which is very accommodating but not as comfy and nice like the Regular P150 seat. Fuel efficiency when compared to its own avatar might be 3-5 kmpl less.

Maths - you may be saving ~Rs. 75 per 500 kms if the fuel efficiency difference between the two models is 5 kmpl consistently which in real life conditions is not exactly possible.

Do check if the plus outweighs minus and go for it.
The more you do research, the farther the bike will be from heart. Buy one that your heart liked. Keep brains only for budget only.

Another good option is Honda Unicorn, since you are considering the long seat. Just test ride both to see which one you personally like.

You can try recently launched xblade abs. Onroad price will be 97k. It has a long and comfortable seat. It can easily return 48 to 50 kmpl. I can guarantee you that under harsh riding it'll give atleast 45kmpl.

                          Whoa!
Didn't notice that the new pulsar variant has a mileage difference from the existing version. Have to keep that in mind also.

                          Regarding the Honda ones:
The 🦄 Unicorn is something I didn't consider since the beginning because of the too commuterish looks (totally my perspective) but still had a test ride yesterday evening and my decision has not changed, unfortunately. Bike feels like it's made for sedate riding style. I'm looking for something more flickable and fun.

X-Blade is another option that has been added now. yesterday the ABS version was not available with the showroom for TD. Have to get a taste of the X-Blade ABS also before making a decision.

And last post asked for a person of height 6'2" which bike he should go for:
Having test driven them both to my heart's content, go for the Apache RTR 1604V.

If you want an allrounder go for 160 4v or if you want only sporty, lightweight bike go for gixxer.
