• Buying new bike

Hi guys I am confused between Dominar 2019 and CBR 250R.

Both have almost same price tag but I am doubting my decision of buying dated CBR in 2019 as Dominar shines in every aspect but there's reliability of Honda that I can't ignore (also may be mileage which also I can't ignore). I am 5'8, will be using my bike for city and long touring also.

Please help me and also do suggest for any other bike if it's there or should I wait for any upcoming 2020 bike.

Production of CBR 250R has stopped . Honda may discontinue it soon, go for gixxer 250 if you doubt about reliability of dominar.

If you can increase your budget a bit, check the BSIV N300.
You might just be able to find a good deal on it.

Go with dominar, it checks all the boxes, people are doing world tours on it so not so much issues on the reliability front, plus the green colour looks SEXY!
But at the end of the day it's your bike and your decision, so take test drives and then decide

I had the exact same choice to make. I bought a pre-owned 2018 CBR250R ABS for Rs 1.65 lakh. It had done only 8000 kms and was just over 1.5 years old. It was a good deal.

Reasons: CBR, being lighter, is easy to handle in the city and equally capable in touring. I am also 5'8" so I can tell you the CBR's ergonomics are just perfect. Another reason is I wanted to upgrade to a 600-650 cc motorcycle in the next 3-4 years.

You can consider Gixxer 250 or FZ 25 as both of them can be used in the city and highways without any issue. After sales service and spares of CBR250R can be an issue in future. Dominor is a good VFM bike but whether you need all the power of Dominor on a regular basis is the question!
Take your time and if possible wait till the auto expo.

From what I have seen and read so far,
Dominar is a bang for the buck kind of bike.
I see a lot of dominars in city traffic easily filtering and gliding past and man that exhaust note stands out!.

A lot of riders have completed very long rides including cross country rides without any major issues. Parts and maintenance are on the cheaper side and service network is huge.

I love how customisable this bike is. You can have a ton of accessories on it!

From what I hear, cbr 250r has been discontinued. Honda will probably roll out bs6 cbr300r directly.

Finally it’s up to you to decide what kind of bike you prefer personally. I had to choose between duke 390 and rr310. Went for rr310 despite the fact that duke 390 has alot more to offer on power and features because I strictly wanted a faired sports tourer.

I don't wish to be condescending but you need to ride a Dominar with proper riding techniques like tank hugging and counter steering, it is actually even lighter once you master these techniques! I recently bought a Dominar and I can zigzag it like crazy in city traffic effortlessly. It is only heavy in crawling conditions say below 5 kmph. But this characteristic is common with superbikes too, such a heavy inverted USD fork setup is obviously gonna show its weight it crawling conditions. And if a person bases his decision on such a trivial factor, he will NEVER buy a superbike. I have ridden Ninja 650, Z650, CBR650F and Z900 on multiple occasions and Dominar provides similar handling feel with the exception of having lesser dampening (both compression and rebound).

SUGGESTION TO Sagar798
If you are upgrading from motorcycles below 15 bhp power then CBR250 and Gixxer SF 250 make a lot of sense. Dominar is just too powerful for city usage. Right now my Dominar is under Running-in conditions and I have to drive is carefully with no sudden acceleration and it made me realize that Dominar feels BORING to drive in city at slow speeds compared to CBR250 and Gixxer SF 250.

I was torn between Gixxer SF 250 and Dominar, I took 2 months to choose one. I am quite tall, Gixxer SF 250 felt ridiculously tiny under my 6'3" well built body. Since the seat height is quite higher, I looked completely awkward and ridiculous riding it. I am not the one to base my decisions on looks but still I won't like to look like a joker riding a Gixxer SF 250.
Since you are 5'8", you will feel right at home on Gixxer SF 250. PROS: It FEELS more sportier than Dominar, soft (too soft for my taste) suspension setup, ample low end torque and power and becomes a breeze to glide through traffic, powerful & focused LED headlight, Suzuki's SOCS is highly effective in keeping it cool, you get suzuki's reliable and smooth engine, sticky and confidence inspiring WIDE tyres, cheaper than Dominar.

CONS: Cost is little higher for a 250 cc motorcycle, Gixxer SF 150 will dilute the road presence of Gixxer SF 250, both look exactly the same.

That was not the only factor buddy but one of the major factors. My planned usage was 80% of the time in the city but 50% of the distance on the highway. Because of this, I chose the CBR250R. Otherwise, Dominar is a great bike but I really didn't want to ride that to fetch groceries, or to the office everytime through traffic. CBR250R is a more balanced bike than Dominar and does everything well. CBR is just awesome on highways and tours but honestly, I'd still prefer a lighter and more nimble bike like FZ for my daily commute.

The key criteria was I wanted a good all-round bike. 3-4 years later, when I upgrade to a 600-650, I will also buy a second vehicle (Activa or something like FZ) for daily commutes.

Hope this thought process helps the OP come to a decision according to his needs and planned usage.

Very well said. The bike's weight is only felt at standstill or at very low speeds in stop and go traffic. That too the rider will get used to.
I commute everyday on a Ninja 1000 and really love it.
A heavier front end really gives you the confidence at high speeds and while braking at high speed.

Honda has stopped production of CBR 250R. Hence no new bikes are being rolled off the assembly line.
Whatever stocks are there in warehouse are being sold off.

Bajaj in general is bound to come in with issues. If not now then may be a few months /years down the line. I have learnt my lesson the hard way with Bajaj. I had brought the cbr250 last year and have completed 18 k till date. Enjoyed every single moment on it. It's true that the production is now stopped, but if you want reliability (like i did) go for a honda. You may also see the honda cb300r, it is an amazing bike as well. And it's 20 kgs lighter than the cbr. Click image for larger version
