  • Choose my 160cc

Purchasing a new bike and have no narrowed it to three based on my likes. And no, I won't be considering anything other than the three I am mentioning. I know the pros and cons of each bike and I am making this to have a community opinion before I go ahead with the purchase soon.

    Options:

    1. Honda xBlade
    2. Honda Hornet 160r
    3. Yamaha FZ V3 Fi (Not FZS)

Go. State your opinion as to what you'd prefer.

The first two bikes are basically the same underneath, so it's upto you which styling you like. And regarding our opinion, everyone is gonna give his opinion, it's upto you, take extensive test drive, see which is more comfortable, the engine smoothness, acceleration etc.
But Honda will be cheaper to maintain and service
      Peace

Go for FZ v3 , it has softer suspension, better low end power.

          +1 for FZ V3.

P.S. you can create a poll for your choices to have the numerical visibility.

Have locked on the FZ now since overall it's future proof. Let me see if I can buy it. Serviceability is still something I need to inquire here. If not, xBlade will be the choice.

Why not TVS Apache 160 4V? It has better Power & Performance than Honda and Yamaha.

From my experience, Apache engines have poor lasting and won't abuse as good as Honda and Yamaha engines. What's the use of the refinement and power if they fall short of after 30 to 40k kms? My mechanic has a 1604v Carb non ABS lying to be repaired. The owner switched from a Honda Shine to it back in 2018. Has done some 39k kms and it's FUBAR. Battery has died, valves are worn, head & exhaust choked, clutch housing kaput and clutch plates burnt beyond recognition. It's not that the user is a very aggressive user but the bike won't last like a Japanese steed.

I ride an Apache 200 4v and I can tell you that I have abused the engine quite a bit on the highway to reach the alleged 140kmph top speed. I did manage to achieve it in the end with a down sloped road and tail wind. I have so far ridden 21k kms on my bike and I shift gears without clutch. My bike is neither unreliable nor has it broken. I also know people who own Apaches and RTRs that have done over 1 lakh kms and those guys swear by their bikes. I also can show you Honda shines, unicorns and even Cbr250s that are lying for repair with burnt out clutches, holes in the crankcase, etc. Don't even get me started on yamaha, I'm friends with a yamaha mechanic and I've even seen shattered gear boxes.

Don't listen to rumors and nonsense logic. Test ride the bike yourself and see if it suits you. After that your maintenance of the bike will decide if it's unreliable or reliable. No other factor matters. Lemons exist. Doesn't mean the brand itself makes lemons.

I'd add a big +1 to this post.

It's all about the care for the machine, Indian riding conditions are very tough with varying weather, bad fuel quality and much more, and Indian manufacturers are very good at making motorcycles that last.

Being someone that also works on motorcycles, get a TVS if you want the best quality of spares later, get a Bajaj if you are fine with the second best with more power in the 200cc segment. The NS200 motor lasts a 80-90k easily, the older RTRs are known to be super reliable and quite a few have crossed a lakh mark in my circle. And I know many pulsars that have crossed the same mark without much fuss.

                          Goodluck.
