New 150cc bike - looking for suggestions

I did a test ride of Apache 160 4v. The bike was excellent. I have nothing to complain about this bike. I don't like the customer service or the sales team's attitude much. This is applicable to almost all showrooms. They don't give much importance to the business. Their attitude is like it is what it is you buy or do not buy. No negotiations or no offers nothing. They do not call back. Our customer service industry is pathetic.

Hey. Good to hear. Both the bikes are good. I personally prefer Apache as the pillion seat is better and sometimes I may have to take my parents as pillion. I am waiting for a better offer for Apache, it is currently 1.31L (on road chennai). Price of bikes keep increasing from month to month.Originally posted by ramzsys View PostIn the similar search. Riding 100cc bike for 15 years or so and now ungrading. I have 2 options:
1) 160 4v for 1.35L (TN price)
2) 2019 gixxer bs4 (carb) 3k run for 85k (asking price).
Will decide on one soon.
As far as used bikes are concerned, that will be a good money saver as long as you personally know the person who used that bike and able to assess the condition of the bike before buying with the help of a good mechanic or yourself if you know more about bikes. I am not blessed with any of these, so I have to go for new bikes.

Hi Arya809, finally I did a test ride of apache 160 4v last weekend and there is nothing I disliked in that bike. The bike doesn't have kicker though, i thought the kicker will be helpful during any emergency when the battery is drained and self does not work. It seems kicker is not available in nearly most of the BS6 bikes in this segment. Xtreme and Xblade are providing kickstart but not sure I should reconsider my decision just for kick start.Originally posted by arya809 View PostRe: New 150cc bike - looking for suggestions
Fz is an excellent hooligan bike, but not comfortable and economical by any standards, its mileage is the worst. It feels comfortable to youngsters and newbies but the highly dampened suspension is actually tiring for daily commuting, which is the main criteria of the thread starter.
@Achilles2205
Why does it matter whether Apache has a visor or not? None of the bikes in your budget will attain speeds high enough to have a visor as a necessary wind protection, sorry but it's the truth, not trying to be condescending.
What do you mean by "assuming we drive at a normal speed say 50 - 60 kms"? I assume you mean sane riding in city conditions without abrupt acceleration and max speeds of 60 only. That will return the mileage of 48-50 kmph in practical conditions.
If you mean "constantly driving at 50-60 on highway" then mileage would be around 66-70.
Please note that I suggested Apache because it's the most comfortable yet sporty choice. As you mentioned that you used bajaj platina for 15 years, I am assuming your age to be above 30 and your extreme dislike for stiff suspension. AFAIK guys above 30 can't tolerate stiff suspension for daily commuting, speaking from personal experience.
Just take a test ride of apache and decide for yourself. Note that if you take test ride of other bikes like gixxer, unicorn, xblade, fz, you won't be able to gauge the actual discomfort because we are quite excited while taking a test ride and can't feel the discomfort in that short duration. Hence, I suggest you to only test ride apache and if there's nothing to dislike, simply book it on the spot.

I can understand the assurance provided by a kick start, but it is really unnecessary. Also, in modern motorcycles with higher compression ratio, the kick start is not as smooth and quick as in older Hero Honda ones. I bought BS4 Honda Unicorn 160 for my brother, it has got a carb and kick start. The kick start is not smooth and requires a lot of force, often needs 2-4 kicks.Originally posted by Achilles2205 View Post

I bought the first batch of Hero Karizma ZMR in 2010. It doesn't have a kick start but I never ever felt like I'm missing it. The most urgent point is to REPLACE BATTERY as soon as it shows signs of decay. There were times when I was riding at night and suddenly found horn and headlights (60W halogen bulb) going dim at low rpm's, and I immediately got the battery replaced at night. NOTE that batteries don't go bad all of a sudden, you will see the signs for at least a few days. Apart from that, the motorcycle always started with a single touch of starter, even after storing it for 6 months!
Again I will repeat, there's nothing wrong with Xtreme and Xblade but they are 100% commuter motorcycles, at least Apache's are a little sporty in handling and suspension.
Saw your earlier posts, you won't gain anything by waiting, prices are not going to come down. The On road price is still high, I read in the news that 5 years insurance is not compulsory anymore, what was the insurance cost for Apache quoted by showroom?
I agree, TVS are the worst in terms of customer care, they treat potential buyers like beggars! I went to buy RR310 but got so pissed off by their behavior, didn't provide a test drive, immediately went to Bajaj showroom opposite to TVS and booked a Dominar after a test ride.

On road varies from dealer to dealer in Chennai. I believe dual disc is somewhere between 1.31L and 1.32L. Like you said the price is not going to come down and so mostly I will be booking by tomorrow or before this weekend. I don't know the insurance cost separately but they told the vehicle insurance coverage is for 5 yrs (first yr direct and next 4 yrs 3rd party). She said driver insurance you need to take care. I believe if I have the health insurance then that should take care of it. Not sure we need driver insurance separately.Originally posted by arya809 View Post

Things have changed upside down in last few days. My family and relatives are persuading me to go for a scooter as of now mainly for household supplies. At first I was reluctant but considering the practical reasons I had to get convinced. So, went to TVS showroom again to test ride Ntorq and it was kind of ok. On road is 1.2 Lacs which I found very costly for a scooter. Heard good feedback on Jupiter but I am planning to go for 125cc scooter since it will have little more power so that it will just not be only for household but also for office use and sometimes highway rides. Considering Ntorq and Suzuki Burgman for now. Need to test ride Burgman and see. Not sure if I have any better choice. I am also new to the scooter side. Need to explore more.Originally posted by Zapps View Post

Don't be disheartened, modern scooters aren't as bad as the first gen activa.Originally posted by Achilles2205 View Post

Believe me, I wanted to buy a scooter on my own, nobody was forcing me except logic! When you see the traffic in your city, notice that modern (125cc) scooters aren't lagging behind in speed and acceleration compared to powerful motorcycles. Because even though I have a Dominar 400, it doesn't mean I always accelerate hard, I ride calmly and at moderate speeds, lots of motorcycles and scooter overtake me and I'm okay with it.
I couldn't buy any scooter because I am 6'4" tall, all scooters are tiny for my stature. In my opinion, modern scooters with 125cc and telescopic fork suspension, disk brakes are quite good compared to motorcycles. I think you should take a long test drive of TVS Ntorq, its price is justifiable, it's more like a racing scooter with exceptionally good suspension and balance. You can even look at the aprilia Storm if dealer and service center is available in your city.
When you start earning or become independent, you can keep the scooter and buy a motorcycle for leisure. Keep scooter for commuting with pillions, motorcycle for pure single rider fun!

Thanks for that consolation and support Arya809! the TVS guys allowed me to test drive Ntorq in a small residential street which has bumps everywhere. I like Ntorq except the fact it has small leg room and then the features like lap timer, bluetooth etc are not going to be much useful to me to be honest. Also heard bluetooth connectivity issues are there. I thought Burgman gives a bigger look (like a maxi scooter) and also provides a larger leg room (like a cruiser) which I like much. Aprilia storm looks good (with big tires). Need to see the reviews and plan to test drive. I stay in Chennai and see dealers here. Will test it out as well. Again, thanks so much for always being very supportive.Originally posted by arya809 View Post

I finally booked Ray ZR 125 street rally and also got the vehicle delivered yesterday. I picked Ray over NTorq for it's mileage, good power to weight ratio, rider and pillion comfort and other practical purposes. NTorq has a good top end performance, which I can compromise anyways. Thanks all for your suggestions.
