  • Unicorn or Pulsar ????

    Hi All,

I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I am planning to buy a new 150cc bike in a short period of time (with in one week) since my insurance got expired and my existing bike is in worst condition. I own TVS Centra 2004 model which engine got ceased last month and in terrible condition right now. Also I am suffering from severe Back pain riding this bike for five years.

After much thought I have short listed Honda Unicorn and Pulsar 150 2009 model. I am very much confused on selecting out of this two. I will be driving 45 Kms daily in chennai city so expecting a good mileage , better ride comfort, good after sales service and especially low back pain. I heard from friends that riding pulsar in awkward position (due to the design) will worsen the back pain and its engine will make more noise after 2 years when compared to Unicorn.

So please help me select the bike since I am looking for long term, more comfortable, reliable, good re-valuation and low maintenance.

    Thanks in advance.

    Jedy

Both the bikes that you have shortlisted are good.
Test ride both of them and you can decide it yourself.

PERSEVERE... failure is not an option!

All your requirements point to Unicorn

Test ride the GS150R too. It is in Unicorn's legue, but it's resale value won't be as high as Honda's bikes.

          Buddy...

After owning pulsars for 7 years and more than 1 lakh 25thousand kilometers, all I can say is they are not uncomfortable......(though they are not very comfortable, as is the case with ALL the bikes in India)

I have ridden Unicorns for quite a decent number of kilometers, I felt them to be more uncomfortable than Pulsars....

But yeaa, there are no two ways about the fact that unicorn scores a lot.........a lot..... while it comes to cornering and handling......over a pulsar...!

Mileagewise, probably uni would be a notch better by 2-3kmpls...(probably)

But, Unicorn is an old-bike which needs an new engine....(probably hunks/extremes)....badly........

Pulsars have been lovely bikes since inception and have maintained its dominance over others...!

Among these two, I would advice Pulsar....!

If et all you consider buying a honda, than buy the better tuned version of unicorn.....the Extreme/Hunk....!
          2002 - Pulsar 150 Classic (Still owned)
          2005 - Pulsar 150 Dtsi (Still owned)
          2006 - Eterno (sold)
          2008 - Dio (Owned)
          2009 - Pulsar 220 DTSi

            uni not comfortable as pulsar
unicorn is an old bike which needs new engine ( hunk / extreme )
            dude
hunk and extremes have the same old unicorn engine
            and among the three
            unicorn has the best engine........

            friend
            unicorn perfectly suits ur requirements......
although performance wise... u will find uni lazy compared to pulsar
but otherwise in many aspects it awesome
and comfort wise its also good
Hope is a good thing ,

              Pulsar 150 -
              Looks & Gizmos
              Power
              Comfort

              Unicorn -
              Refinement
              Handling
              Resale

Same - Mileage, after sales service, reliability.

Pulsar is very much comfortable and no, does not make more noises in 2 years if maintained properly. Mainly decide whether you want power or refinement and choose similarly.
Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

                Performance - Pulsar

Refinement - Unicorn , UG3's and UG4's are more refined than previous versions though.

Comfort (Rider,Pillion) - Pulsar has a plusher ride.

                Handling - Unicorn

                Fun to ride - Pulsar

Unicorn is most refined bike in India,it s super commuter,no nonsense bike.

Pulsar is more fun to ride, more exciting, has some extra features and gizmos, cheaper spares. But the service is a let down though.

                That said,take ur pick.
When everything comes ur way, u r in the wrong way ;)

                      unicorn all thw way..it rockzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

all of your requirements are pointing toward unicorn....excellent bike ...best suited for city requiremnets ...amazing torque in low and mid revs which is essential for city condition..
but if you are more intended towards gizmos, auxillary function and peppines than go for pulsar otherwise dont think twice go for uni and enjoy becoming a wing rider..

Go for a Unicorn buddy, its 100 times better than a Pulsar.
                        I own a 150 UG III since 2yrs and 4 months now...
It does not make more noise in two years but expensive to maintain, not in terms of cost of spares but the frequency of changing the spares. My bike has given me a lot of maintainence inspite of the way I have kept her which is more astonishing for me...
Servicing, Oil change , blah blah everything on time, but still it gave me engine problem...
I am selling it off and will buy a Unicorn or a Karizma in next three months.
as everyone has said : Test ride both the bikes and decide for yourself

                          thanks for pouring suggestions.....

yesterday I did test drive in unicorn and found very comfort in riding and smooth engine really rocks and removed pulsar from my mind.

but now my mind goes towards HH CBZ extreme becoz of its looks and great power but again put me in great confusion...

so again i need ur valuable suggestion on CBZ extreme before making the final decision..... i expect min 50-55 kmpl mileage . Does CBZ suit me and give good mileage....please help me

If mileage is the "only" criteria than go for unicorn

Extreme is a better tuned version of unicorn engine.

                            Take your pick....!

Ride one and you will feel the difference!

Forget the 150 cc segment then.

150s can give that kind of mileage only if ridden within speeds of 40-60 max. If u only commute and if speeds are mostly in this region, u can look for a 150cc.

Secondly, CBZ X gives a lesser FE than Unicorn, cos it has got almost a BHP extra of power. Also it is not as refined as the Unicorn again for the same reason.
