  • Need help selecting my second bike.

I'm planning to buy a new bike.

Requirements are decent power that can bring smile on my face every time I ride the bike and average about 40 to 45 kmpl. Also should be a really good handler. Budget max 80K.

Actually this is my second bike my first bike is CBZ Xtreme so I need more power than my first bike.Right now I have 3 bikes on my mind Pulsar 180 UG4, RTR 180 & 220 DTS-i. As I have never ridden any of this 3 bikes so please give me the input regarding power, average and handling and also how these bikes behave when ridden flatout. Also i need to know about the maintainance cost of these 3 bikes i.e. which one of these will be expensive to run. for ex. spare parts cost which one is more expensive than other.

I will be doing mostly city riding and occasional 500 km round trip. And this trip will be done mostly once in a month.please help me guys I'm really confused with this.

Dude... you already own an Xtreme... so IMO P180 won't bring such a smile to your face. You may opt for RTR but then it is not such a great tourer.
As far as P220 is concerned.... it is a very dynamic bike both for city riding and touring..... wait for reviews of the new 220 in the ownership threads and test drive it. I personally do not favour the pulsars due to low engine build quality but i hear they gave it a new one.... so wait sometime before buying it.
And if you want to tour as much as 500kms.... i'd say increase your budget a bit and buy an RE bullet..... great tourer...and the new engine gives around 40-45 in city and a bit more on highways.

I would say pulsar 220 straight away.. But there are reasons for that. 1st of all lets deal with d 180s. Both r good in their own way.. pulsar 180 ug4 is nothing but a (p200-20cc). It can offer u a nice upgrade package after ur CBZ.. Apache many say, they r not comfortable on long rides. But apart from that more or less it also offers d same features like the pulsar 180.

Pulsar 220 dtsi, is the talk of d town. Its powerful, its refined, its grippy and its best priced..... oops i missed one "its the fastest"..

N for 80k (ur budget) i'm surprised that you are listing out options . Come on........ There is nly one bike in d market for u..

Go for the P220. Its a decent blend of power and FE...

PERSEVERE... failure is not an option!

For 40-45kmpl and better peformance you are only left with the RTR, P220 will be less frugal and P180 feels boring now a days.
Apache also has all the equipment on demand.
Never upgrade without getting your basics RIGHT.

I am surprised not seeing R15 on your list. The things that are bolded above, R15 fits perfectly in them.

P180 is tried and tested, but again cannot say it as a perfect upgrade for Xtreme. RTR 180 again, yet to get more reviews about it. And P220 DTSi. Its relatively new bike. I prefer to wait and watch for any Bajaj's new bike. No doubt its a power bike. But still.

Coming to maintanance of R15...The only maintanace thing that u need to keep in mind is its Chain. Rest all...its a great bike with almost no maintanance. Spares like Body are quite cheap when compared to overall cost of bike. But any engine part would cost bomb.

I have owned both Xtreme and R15. And feel the R15 is perfect upgrade after Xtreme when compared to RTR/P180. Fpr touring R15 does excellent job too.

Take a test ride of R15 that may help you.

                Thanks Aryan for the approval

See guys as you know i already own Xtreme and trust me its a really good bike but when you rip it really hard it does not give you that sensation of speed i mean that it travels from Point 1 and 2 with least fuss and really quick no doubt about that but there is something missing i don't know what. See I have traveled from Goa to Pune and back within a month and on four lane highways i found it wanting for more power.Plus the cars and even buses(volvos) were muscling me on the highways.and I was barely able to overtake the small buses. overall I found cbz was inadequate on these highways. I really need a bike which can sustain 100+ speed plus it should be lively so that i should not get bored easily. And BTW i dont think Bullets will come in 80K OTR.

Also I will be taking the bike to office and i need atleast 40 kmpl average as my Xtreme used to give me barely 30 kmpl in pune city partly because of my hard riding and mostly because of thiefs called the petrol bunks. So my dad ordered me to get my bike back and give it to my younger brother which is now still with him for 6 months and he seems reluctant to give it to me.
As for 3 bikes i have mentioned will the P220 DTS-i really give 40kmpl average? and is the RTR 180 a power bike as the hype suggest? P180 UG3 I have driven and compared to cbz it brought a smile on my face whenever i rode it of course the cbz was brilliant handler but i liked the grunt of P180.Will new one will be the same as older one?

Okie, Dint know about your budget.
I guess you can add ZMA along with P220 to your list then, Rather better than P180/RTR if you are not feature hungry.

RTR 180-Tests say that the rtr 180 is faster than the p220 in 0-80 and just half a second behind in 0-100 than the p220..also me too not a fan of the bajaj engines..for the rtr, they say they have reduced the vibes and the seating position is comfy as compared to rtr160..gud acceleration and torque are not always directly proportional to the cc my friend..and that u have mentioned handling, i bet there is no better handler than the rtr..but in the end its ur discretion and take a bike after test riding all the three and finding the best of the lot

P 220 DTSi, that should suffice all your requirements and looks like real VFM too.
