  • New bike or a used one

    Hello xBhp,

I'm in a little bit of a rut. I'm about to buy my first bike and I have been advised a lot of options which have confused me a lot. Now my budget doesn't allow me to go beyond a Yamaha Gladiator but some of my friends have advised me to go for a second hand 150cc bike.

So what shall it be a new gladiator or second hand 150/180cc bike?

I went to rasta peth in pune to check out the used bike shops and I saw a lot of pulsars. At 45k I found some pulsar 180cc models of 2007 make with around 14k to 25k mileage on them. I even saw an Avenger at 48k with 35k mileage. Should I go for these?

    Help please

If you want to buy a second hand bike then IMO dont go for Bajaj, most bajaj owners sell their bikes in pretty crappy condition. I suggest you try to find an rtr or a unicorn.

Gladiator- RS is the best among the 125cc, BLUE color looks damn cool!
second hand- hunt for a Karizma
        YAMAHA
        HONDA
        IDEAL JAWA

I would always advise a new bike/car, even of a smaller segment as against a bigger segment 2nd hand vehicle.
You can never trust the condition of the 2nd hand market vehicles-odo readings fingered with, damages touched up, who knows about the rest of stuff. You would need to thoroughly examine it with the help of a mechanic which they would not even allow you to do, unless you have zeroed in on one. Even the mech.wouldn't be interested!
So, I say new is best!
Else if you are insistent on a 2nd hand, make sure it is from someone you knew very well&maintained!

Get yourself Gladiator RS Yamaha Blue.

It is an excellent bike & one of the best 125cc bike available.

              Forget second hand bikes.

Yes if u want a 2nd hand bike.....
I would suggest go with a mechanic and choose a Wise model from HH.....
or any 2 stroke Bike other than Yamaha.....
Do not think of any other model in 2nd hand bike other than the above else Boxer....CT100(if its in good condition)...

If u feel the above option is not Ok ......and thinking of an New bike....
Go for any Bike of any Co.......whichever fits ur pocket....

                  Why other than Yamaha?

@ Mr. Aquamatrix: Go for a new one. And Gladiator is a wise choice.

PERSEVERE... failure is not an option!

Well unicorns are hardly available after checking 8-9 shops I could only find 2 unicorns which were in very bad shape. same was the case was with apaches.

Now I wouldn't have even have given a thought to second hand bikes if it wasn't for the fact that I'm gonna use the bike for 2 years, after that I will be moving abroad for higher studies. So something with a good resale value will be helpful (recently my friend sold of his 1 year used pulsar for 30k for which he had purchased for 34k)

Also strangely enough most of the people around me comment that I'm a very tall to own a 125cc bike as I would look weird on them. Personally I don't find much of a difference when I'm driving a 125cc or 150cc bike. SO just to make things clear are there some kind of comforts that most 150cc bikes give to aid tall people?

+2 Well said.....getting Unicorn is again a big deal nowadays...in B'lore IInd hand Unicorn price has gone up over last 2 years due to heavy demand. If you can get below 30K kms done Unicorn for less than 45K then it's good deal.

Not so.....ive seen many People telling RTR as the Weird bike for Tall peoples.....
                        perhaps what is your Height?
And also if u are too tall like more than 6......then if u go for an 125cc ---- u can choose Stunner ........I would not recomment it ....But it will really Compensate your Height.....

                          I'm 6'4

Also stunner is not an option. The fully loaded model comes close to 60k. I would surely buy a Unicorn at 63k If I had the dough.

Look at some of the 125/135 cc Bajaj bikes. Discover and XCD models.

Go in for a second hand bike, only when you are absolutely sure of the true condition of the bike. Do take a 'known' mechanic along with you to check out the second hand bike. Don't base your opinion on Odo readings only, that can be tampered with. Check the condition of the wheels, forks, hand grips, chain/sprockets, to name a few.
