  • comet 2005!!

guys a friend of mine said there's a 05 comet for sale..i'm not sure about the kms on the speedo those guys are quoting 1.25 lak for that..is it worth buying a comet for that money....or should i avoid the comet??? or should i go in for a R15 or wait for the ninja250???

  • #2
    Topic Approved.

The Comet 250 is a good bike. The only concern that I would have if I were in place of you is the procurement of spare parts. However, there are actually a few Comet owners here on xBhp who do own Comets. But, they have to really work quite hard on the upkeep of their beauties.

At Rs.1.25 lakhs, I do not quite know how sweet a deal it is since without actually seeing the machine, it would be unwise to comment but if you want to go for a new bike (and in this case, the R15), then go and get yourself one! There is NOTHING like a brand new bike, you see. Ofcourse, comparing a twin cylinder V-Twin 27bhp machine with a single cylinder liquid cooled engine would not really be logical, but then again get the machine which YOU think would suit your needs more.

A well maintained Comet is a hard to find bike especially because a lot of these bikes were sold to papas-rich-spoilt-kids.... Finding the spares for it is even more difficult.

If I were you, I would throw that money in an Fixed Deposit and sit on it till ninja chacha comes up.... (and honestly if i were you, and I did so too, I would have got bored waiting of it and had bought myself a R15... i)

My opinion is to wait for Ninja or take R15...
may be ninja may not be available at 1.25L... so now if u need a bike, then go for an R15...

Even if the Comet is in excellent condition then also you face difficulty in finding spare parts if anything goes kaput, So my advice would be to wait fo few more months for Ninja.

friend, go for the R15 without wasting time... Kya pata kal 'Ninja' ho na ho. As for the Comet, skip it man, there is no support for it in India and trust me in what ever condition it is in, it will never give you the satisfaction or peace of mind that a new R15 would.

somehow i feel the price is too steep for the comet. as above members advised go for the r15. u can also wait for the ninja until ur patience dies out may be you will get the new karizma also by that time... new bike is new bike...i say no to comet

Ummm .... Intriguing how so many pple have opinions about Comet without any first hand experience with her !!

But then the thing is, even if its the last comet sold in India, (I mean the newest !!), its gonna be a 5 year old bike, and a 5 year old bike is a 5 year old bike no matter how good its been maintained !!

It'd need more attention and care than an Indian bike, sure, so make sure if you buy it u know what you are getting into.

Spares are very costly sure, but the thing is that if you have a credit card with you and registered with PayPal, Comet spares can actually reach you faster than ZMA spares reach the dealership from Delhi !!!

Trust me on that one !! Sumit and Sunil, over to you guys !!

The comet is a tough one, but as said... no spares...

I WOULD STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU WAIT FOR THE NINJA... if you have the patience that is....

I think most of the others have said it here. Spares will be the biggest problem for the Comet, otherwise a good bike.
If you do have the budget, I would say wait for a few months to see whether the Ninja comes else the R15 is waiting for you in the nearest showroom!

Sorry for deviating from the topic of Comet or R15 but I googled for Kinetic Comet and landed on this page Kinetic Showroom : Motorcycles : Comet and it says that anyone interested in buying one can contact [email protected] for details. Wonder what the deal is here?!? Maybe it s just that the website needs updating.

                              ok guys
rear disc pads gave way yesterday?
                              any options?

I need at the earliest, and getting them shipped from planet DSG would take a week at least.
