  • RTR180 or 220 DTSi

    Hello Xbhpians,[/COLOR]

I'm trading my ZMA (Feb'09) for a new one... but struck in between RTR 180 & 220 DTSi. Also, new ZMA-Fi is coming very soon. So, its totally a deep confusing for a ultimate choice. Need you all to support me in having a better choice. I also own a FZ but I'm quite disappointed with its performance scores.

Dude... just go and have a test ride of P220..... I was in same dilemma between RTR180, P180, Fazer & P220...... finally I got myself a P220 plasma blue last week..... and maaan can't tell you how I'm loving it's performance.... keeping the running period in mind..... the grunt of the engine..... the sitting position for a guy of my height (6.1') sporty yet comfortable..... bit heavy on standstill but too easy to maneuver in this insane traffic of Delhi.....Mileage can't say..... P180 is sure far better of them all...P220 should give somewhere around 40-45... others are in the same league as far as some reports concerned....... even the price is very competitive..... P180 is 68K on road.. Apache (no idea...must be bit costlier than P180 for that rear disc)..... and Fazer .. as far as I know is somewhere around 75K on road... which is way too costly for a 14bhp engine.... P220 is for 74260 on road.... and features list is endless...... if not for anything else.... just turn on the headlamp of p220 ..... the pilot lights are damn too cool and projector headlamps are so powerful that even some car's headlight looks dim in front of it...and is sure a head turner....get yourself a good funky helmet of good brand for that second look appeal.. and finally... Bajaj product demand much less for maintenance.....

Dude test ride the P220.. I got one 6 days back after a waiting of 1+ month. In the meantime, i had a test-ride for A180. A P220 is very much more of a looker as compared to a plain old-looking A180, and handling wise, no damn apache has been able to overtake me inside the city(even during the run-in i.e. max speed = 65)..

No idea about mileage as yet, but I think it wont be very much different from a A180.

The rubbers used are much better on the P220 as compared to A180

Only reason you can go for Apache is if you have the temptation to change your tyres after the first 10k KM, and you want a lighter bike. All the rest favours in the favour of a P220. (Minus the part that it is a Bajaj, and people tend to hate Bajaj for no apparent reason.)
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Bajaj Pulsar 220 Dtsi any time bro... The Fastest Indian is the best with endless list of features. The best VFM bike in india. It will be a very good tourer.

No Comments on these...however.. would want to highlight the points of the Apache RTR180 aswell just so that the one who really needs it ..doesnt feel that its too late
Starting from the engine.. 180cc Free revving-thats the best part...you run it slow, it doesnt mind, you run it fast, it loves it. Moreover TVS has developed this engine with years of its on track dominating technologies, so I guess its worth a shot.
Looks-I love the petal discs-front and rear both..simple go with the apache tribe feel it comes with
Blue color LCD consol...give more ooph. If you get a hold of the white color ...man your in for a treat by the number of eyes you attract
Performance wise-shorter wheelbase compared to P220 gives you a comparitivly sharper handling in traffic conditions. Has got decent power(dont compare that with the P220). the size of front and rear tyre is good enough to give you knee dragging experiences.although the P220 also has duel discs...RTR180's will prove to be more effective because of the short wheelbase and less weight(I know it feels bad, thats why i exchanged the ZMA for R15)
Rest - for P220 you have enough comments..do ride both the machines before confirming your decision..
take your time if necessary but dont come under influence ...get the bike your heart wants..cos at the end of the day..its your bike..not anyone else
Just because you haven't seen it doesnt mean its impossible...expect the unexpected.

We did need a post like this one for highlighting A180 advantages.

To add to this latest BikeIndia mag has articles:
                    - RTR180/R15/P220 on highway - for touring
                    - Class leading 0-100-0 face off - as both are from diff categories, you get numbers for both.

Check those out, if those comparison interest you. Please ignore this post if you don't read/believe the mags.

Spoiler: in both the articles verdict on RTR 180 pleasantly surprised me .

If someone is going to buy RTR180 for 73K, its better to add 7K more and buy a P220......no offense, but P220 is the best VFM till date

with 7K more you will be getting
                      1. more bhp
                      2. more torque
                      3. more cc
                      4. more wight (its usefull while touring)
                      5. projector
                      6. better wider tyres
                      7. better comfort
                      8. better comfortable pillion seat
                      9. better mileage (depends)
                      10. low maintanence
                      11. parts are cheap compared to that of TVS

the last two shouldnt bother anyone

I aint saying RTR180 isnt a good bike, I have been riding a RTR160 for past 7 months and I really felt in love with the free revving engine. But its better to buy P220 by just giving 7K Rs more, i can say you wont regret

0-100-0 is in Overdrive my friend.OD also published a graph of speed vs time for p220,RTR180,R15. the Graph of RTR180 and P220 are very very similar (now i wonder where did the extra bhp, cc etc all go)the only difference is RTR180 has better low end and P220 has better top end (better = very very less variation)
They also publishd the breaking from 100-0. RTR180 leaves P220 far behind in this aspect

Ps:This is what i noticed from the magz , nothing is my own.

I really want to put in a simple way for u , if ur short u can go for the apache (as in my case) if ur tall then again u have the choice
and if u can wait till the announcement of the new ZMR , do wait to know abt it.

                              @original poster

P220 is value for money if your requirement is in line with what it provides. torquey engine, great lights, big bike stance, etc.

A180 is value for money if you are looking for some really good acceleration figures and awesome handling.

feature and eqpt wise both are way up there.

Also was reading bike india. I aint sure about the bike indias data but the overall 0-100 figures of a180 and p220 surprised me. the a180 is quicker albeit marginally till 0-80. 0-100 the p220 is quicker albeit very marginally. now if that isnt super performance from that 180cc engine then what is?

                              cheers!
