150cc vs 223cc below 75 kmph speed. Is there any difference?

    Hello friends,
Thankyou for all your rich inputs but I have following questions for ZMA owners:
1)What difference did you find between a 150cc bike and 223cc(Zma) if you are not going to drive anyway above 75 kms/hr.Is there any difference between them? If very minor difference I will try to go for unicorn due to less inital cost and comaparitvely cheaper spares as comapred to Zma.I would be also using this bike for daily commute in future in Pune so I could take advantage of the less fuel consumption of Unicorn.
2)If your decision is that upto 75 kms/hour there is no vast difference between pulling capability(torque) and power between zma223cc and 150cc bikes then why should I not go for Apache RTR, bcoz it gives tremendous performance between 0 to 80 kms/hr.
3)Also as ZMA has good low end torque of 18.35@6000rpm and RTR180 of 15.5@6500 rpm. Will this minor difference of 500rpm create any problem while climbing ghats?
4)Will a 180cc and 223cc make much difference in the thin air of ladakh?
I would be always travelling single on the bike without a pillion.
Bike owners and experienced persons plz reply.
Also is there any problem of availability of spares of Karizma? I already know they are costly but could anyone quote the prices of spare parts and also the parts which generally fail on a zma.?

      The basic difference is smoooothness
2nd thing u can fit many Unicorn spares in ZMA they are same and will cost u a litle less.(u will rarely have to replace parts in ZMA)
Kzma has got a relaxed engine and better sitting position for long rides

Even if u take a ZMA to LEH u will have to make finer adjustments...
contact some one who has been there

But if your mind is stuck at RTR180 ... go for it.
Every bike has issues but buy the one u like... its a thing from the heart after all

Ok Mate...if you just need a bike to go to Leh then Pick anything ..Either a Bullet or a Zma or a 220 Carb. they all have their goods and bads. But as you have said that you would be keeping the bike for another 6-7 years then decide accordingly.

220 Carb is more VFM in longer run!

Any bike can do Leh, it just depends how much would you be enjoying. With a higher CC bike, you would not need to get off the saddle to push it off in case of deep streams or steep climbs( dont forget that you will be carrying some decent load and the thinner air cuts around 20-25% of the bikes potential). But I doubt if you would be doing Leh twice every year for the next 6-7 years.

        So Decide accorgingly.

My Vote would go for a Suzuki 150R:

        Reason:::
        • Good FE.
        • Good Riding Posture
        • Good Low end.
        • Suzukiz are Realiable machines.
        • perhaps you will be the 1st one from xbhp to do Leh on a 150R.

So decide accordingly.....A decent 150 cc bike can do Leh decently= will return decent Fe in the city run.

GS150R and Unicorn are the choice here, my vote still goes to 150R.

        Your Take now!
Its not about the BHP or the CC, its about one common religion called Biking!!!

Save the Tigers! Only 1411 (excluding ME) are left!

Earlier, I have suggested ZMA as first choice and GS150 as second choice, and it still stands. My comments below in bold are specific to your queries.

On the plain, upto 75kmph, ZMA will be more relaxed though very little difference. The difference will show once you start climbing. Here the more powerful ZMA will shine. But since you also want to use it for daily commuting in the future and is "fuel consumption" conscious. The question is how much are you concern about fuel consumption. If not, go for ZMA. If yes, go for Uni.

Personally, I would'nt want RTR for a long tour. Both for vibes & riding posture. Ok for city.

See comment 1 for riding in the plains. For climbing, obviously the difference will be less than Uni vs ZMA. Though RTR looses out in the plains for long lazy ride @75kmph.

4)Will a 180cc and 223cc make much difference in the thin air of ladakh?

Carb. engine often has issues in high altitude as mixture are not automatically adjusted like in FI unit. Here RTR FI will shine. What some people do is keep a K&N filter handy and change them when they reach high altitude and back to normal when the come down. According to ZMA owners, parts that generally fails on ZMA is rear brake bulbs, though it shouldn't be a major issue. Any machine can fail, though generally speaking, HH is less prone to failure than some other manufacturers. I own a ZMA, done 10k so far with zero failure, not even bulb. And I ride at night daily.
