you should test ride all three and choose for yourself, but yeah, the ZMR and the ZMA-r seem more suited to your needs. even the FE figures of all bikes you've listed hover around the 40kpl mark.
but if you really like the R15's high revving motor and its cornering abilities, you won't regret spending about 25k more than the ZMA or the 220.
as for the ZMR, i honestly feel it isn't as much value for money as the others. I've never ridden it, but at least on paper( and as per magazines and ownership reports), it doesn't feel any different from the ZMA-R. i myself was in the same situation as you, and narrowed it down to the R15 and the P220. got myself the 220 ultimately, but if i was spending my own money, i'd have gone for the yammie.

My suggestion will be to ride all three bikes

and see in which bike you get feeling of being 'one' with the bike
      which suits/matches your personality....
if you feel 'one' with your bike its the best thing to have

than buying a thing that people will like
buy what you like, you will be most satisfied.....

thanks everyone for your replies and thank you aryan for approving the thread.
As many of you told I have to get test rides of these bikes, and I am in no hurry as I will have the money only by 2-3 months.
        @binoy,
I am from mulamkunnathukavu, thrissur. Happy to see some one from thrissur.I could only check the forum now, hence the delay in replying.
I have two more questions about the r 15
        1) Is the tire prone to punctures easily. This is the reply I got this from a team-bhp memeber: "Soft compound tires - Aptly called 'tires' because it is so tiring to keep fixing the punctures. I have come out of the honeymoon period with my R15 and facing stark realities. I replaced the tire once already, and the new one has 3 punctures so far. And, I don't drive in bad roads - The tire is a nail magnet. It loves to get punctured. So, keep a kit handy and know how to use it. " If this is the case I won't have peace of mind on a long trip.
        2) Does its chain require lubrication after its being run in rain? I am particularly concerned about this as we have got a good rainy season from june to aug, september in kerala.

          1. I've been riding R15 since a year and just got ONE puncture. As the tires are tubeless, even if it is punctured you can manage to ride the bike to nearest tyre shop to get the tyre repaired. It just takes hardly 5 minutes to repair the tyre.
          2. Not every time for small showers, but if you ride the bike in heavy rain, you need to lube your chain & also for every 500 kms or so it needs to be cleaned and lubed. If you are more concerned about it, fit a center stand (Rs.700/-) buy Motul chain clean and lube so you can clean & lube it yourself.
          Once human-being, now Biker.

Been owner of the wonderful machine (R15) for more than 5 months now. Not a single problem till date, its giving me mileage of about 40 kmpl with mixed riding conditions, which includes intense speed, revving, rash riding. Believe me no other bike is capable of handling such punishment. As for the power is concerned, the bike is well placed in terms of bhp. 17 ponies are enough to do the charm of city riding.
Handling i say is better that pulsar as the bike is light. the engine is very rev friendly as fellow mates here said. The cornering capability of the bike is too good. Never makes u feel to run out of confidence while hitting a corner.

been a p150 user before. The bike is from a different category and cant be compared. P220 is a complete straight line blaster. But when it comes to corners, i bet no1 can beat r15 here except baby ninja.

As for the ZMR, i hv no clue as i have never got the chance to ride a zma. But people say the bike has som good amount of acceleration.
A fact -- It takes more love to share the pillion seat, than to share the bed.

How much is the cost of this motul chain clean and lube? How long will will it last?ie how many lubrications will it last for?

I am from Wadakanchery currently working in trivandrum...
As i own an FZ16 for the last 9 months and 15200kms on board, my tyre did not got punctured yet... as both R15 and FZ tyres are soft compound materials...
As far as chain is considered a lil caring for it will be good, coz as it is an open chain it requires regular cleaning and lubing atleast in a week(that's i do)... that's the only part in the bike which requires (maintenance)... i think it will be also for R15...

My opinion is to go for R15... coz i liked to ride it very much in the sizzling/twisties... good handler...

a doubt about the race kit of r15
any idea how much increase in output will the race ecu + high lift cams alone will produce(without exhausts)?

Forget about that, its not street legal. Moreover you will hate the sound that the exhaust makes.

Fact because you decided it? C'mon bro, get real. It's something that he can see for himself and make an opinion, in the showroom itself. If he is really considering BUYING any of the three bikes, it's safe to assume he knows how each of them look.
How can we help him really? - By sharing our ride experiences.
Try to be helpful, do you think your reply discouraged him even a little? Not everyone here buys a bike for the looks.

Punctures are just a matter of luck...16months, 12.5K kms.-lots of touring, city riding, off-roading&not a single puncture yet in my case.
My friend used his CBZ Classic for 5 years without even a single puncture, but his new RTR Refresh got punctured twice in the 1st 2 months itself!

I had used a puncture-off solution for regular tires on my bikes and for almost 4-5 years I was relaxed. Whatever hits from small nails / bits and peices are taken care off by this puncture-off solution but you cannot avoid a damage from a huge nail. At the time of changing my tire, the dealer was surprised to see lot of small bits / nails on the tire. This fills the small holes made by external pieces, the only condition is you have to be in motion so that the liquid goes into it and performs it's role. I had taken it in 2001 I am not aware of the new brands which are available today in market. This really helps a lot. But alas luck is the factor which plays a major role.
