  • Scooter for my Wife?

    Hi guys,

Please let me know which gearless scooter is best available in the merket right now.

I can spend till 45k. The requirements are:

-> 2 kms travel every day. Hence FE isnt much of a concern.
-> Driven by a lady. Hence it needs to be light weight
-> Trouble free and good/refined engine
    -> Low cost of ownership

I would visit Honda to check out the Aviator and then plan to visit Mahindra to check out the Rodeo & Duro

Guys, I would need your input to decide.

    Thanks, Arun

HH Pleasure without any doubt. It is light, compact yet adequately powered. FE is anything between 40-50 depending on how you ride it. Service costs are negligible and no quality issues as well.
The biggest positive is that super refined Honda engine.

wow!! wait a minute dude.. I guess I missed some requirment.
like you would be using the scooter for some purpose later.. or you have bigger rides planned on weekends.. or some future requirment.. why do you require a bigger scooter.

upto 20KM a day, I guess electric scooter is the bestest option. you would find it fun. new technology and saving environment (feel good).. they start at 30K i guess.. no licence/registration required. find the best one in market and enjoy..

I assume, you already have an alternate transport/ bike, so require this for only commutation for your wife on week days.
they are just rechargable bettery connected to two wheels so low maintanance and no fuel required. runs around 60KM+ on one charging.

pardon me, if i understood wrong

If you are checking Aviator and Activa

I advice you to check out Rodeo and Duro.

If sales and spares of Mahindra are not a problem, safely go for either of the two scooters, Rodeo or Duro....Fantastic in every little sense....

Check the TVS Scooty Streak its is also good light and less expensive too. Additionally it is much peppier than most of the bigger scooters.
Never upgrade without getting your basics RIGHT.

My suggestion would be Suzuki Access.. better mileage, pick-up and less expensive as compared to Honda Activa.

i think battery powered scooter will be good and economic too..we have a YO smart in our home that runs fine..u can go about 70kms after a full charging for that it will cost only one unit..although speed wont be that great,35-40 is highest i guess..do check them out also..happy buying..

other than that I think you should go for HH-pleasure or scooty..they both are equally good..although I think scooty is highest selling product..dnt have any idea about mahindra rodeo..

                        Hi guys,

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. We already have a scooty (6-7 years old). We plan to dump it to buy a scooter that my wife can use for local travel. The commuting distance is just 2-3 kms a day. Seriously not more than 3 kms a day!. We already have an alternate mode of transport (i10 & Bajaj discover). But these are arent alternates for my wife though.

I have zeroed in on the following:

                        i. Aviator -> The real issue is the waiting period. I did enquire in KUN Honda and they quoted anywhere between 45 days to 2 months.

ii. Suzuki Access -> Entry cost is a little high. But would anyways test drive it

iii. Mahindra Rodeo -> Have to drive it to understand how it performs. So this is due for a test drive this saturday

iv. Yo-Bikes/BSA Electric bikes -> Well the maximum speed is 25 kmph - 40 kmph. Well if my wife hears about this, she would shoot me with a shotgun. But I am sure it is worth the try. The cheapest BSA electric bike is 28k ex-chennai. I will test drive all these.

I have given a pass to Scooty & Dio since we already have them. Dio is used by my father. My wife finds it really difficult to ride it as it is a little big & heavy. I am sure she would have the same issue with Aviator if she test drives it. But let me first take her for a test drive. This would always help her to decide.

Guys, a few questions for those who own electric bikes.
                        i. How is the performance compared to its petrol counterparts?
ii. What would be the service intervals?
iii. How good is the service backup from BSA?
iii. Any problems related to batteries?

HH pleasure is the best bet !!! Works out to less than 40K OTR, FREE roadside assistance in city limits, light weight, same reliable activa engine, ~5kmpl more mileage, excellent svc access, easy spares availability.....Try out at exclusive pleasure showroom (full women staff), many more goodies as well...

Electric bikes are good for first few months, it has it's own share of issues, talk to long term users for more feedback...Mahindra scooters check out the nearest svc center to your home, also check out their quality of svc...TVS scooty...avoid it (no comments !)...aviator...high seating not good if your wife is shorter than 5'9".....Suzuki Access...no need of so powerful scooter....mileage will be lesser....svc access not great (but svc quality is best)....

If she finds the Dio a little heavy, she would most likely feel the same issue with Activa and Aviator as well. Same goes for Access. HH Pleasure is a lot easier for women to handle. Definitely the best bet as others here already suggested
