    FZ16 - Some Final Things to Consider

    Hi Guys,
    This is my first post at XBhp. I am from chennai and I need some help on deciding which bike to buy! I used to drive around an apache 150 till it was stolen. . Now that I am over it I need a new bike . I test drove the new Apache 180, Apache 160 FI and Yamaha Fz16. And to tell the truth I am kinda leaning towards FZ16. The seating postion and the handling is awesome (It was great in apache too, to be fair). But really impressed me was the refinement of FZ16. But before I conclude buying it I need to know a few things.

    1. Has anyone faced any problems yet in FZ for not having a kick start ? If I install an anti-theft device will it impair battery performance ?

    2. How's the service network in chennai ? I've been reading bad reviews about Yamaha service, but wanted to know how it is in chennai. I am planning to get it from Raj Yamaha. Are they any good ?

    3. Can I retrofit a leg-guard without making the warranty void ?

    Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance guys!

      its been 2k kms and i have not faced any issues,but then Cochin isnt very cold!

      dont know abt Chennai,but here in Cochin,there isn't anything to complain abt.

        -hi...im from chennai too..i have my FZ for more than a year..i did not miss the kick start as the self start never gave a problem..i dont have anti-theft..i think it wont affect the battery..

        -i have,nt been to Raj yamaha..but my friend said the showroom looks good
        -I got my FZ from Paras Yamaha(mount road) and did my first service there and found it to be pathetic..buying experience was worst.
        -did my second service in Bikerz(nanganallur)its new and i found that there were only two service personnel and it was decent though...
        -did my last four services in Sri yamaha(near kasi theatre),they do a decent job.not as bad as Paras..good level of service equipments and mechanics.

          Thanks for the response dude. Good to hear that u have a nice service center in cochin. Btw I am basically from cochin too , and it can get colder than chennai!!.

          Thanks man. I am kinda relieved to hear that u'vent faced any battery issues in the past one year in chennai. That has taken me one step closer to the FZ16. I also visited raj yamaha and was pretty impressed, and the thing is they started their showrooms just a month or 2 ago. So i expect them to have better focussed approach towards newer Yamahas.

          One question for both of u guys, since u both have owned the FZ for some time now, how's the overall experience. ??

            ..................the overall experience to sum it all up is AMAZING.........its got the most refined engine.......the fattest rear wheel.....low C.G......superb grip and fantastic looks.......the fuel efficiency is also a decent 40kpl...i think you should go for it!!!!!!

              so far i have no complains,tht is even after riding and riding along regularly with a P200 and a R15

                I would like to add, that if the omission of the kick is an issue, it is possible to mount a kick on the engine, by removing the rubber stopper, and fitting the mechanism. Slightly complicated, but can be done.

                  Absence of kick is not gonna stop me from getting it, but its heartening to know that i can retrofit a kicker if need be. I presume that will void the warranty ? And also wouldnt wanna mess with it unless electric turns unreliable

                    yes your warranty would be void if you fit the kick start,but 99.5% you wont need it!

                      No problem AFAIK, no problem with my R15 battery in the last 16months. If the FZ battery also is MF type, you can completely take it easy, else if it is the conventional charging type, just keep the distilled water&charge level in check every couple of months&you'll be good to go.
                      Maybe the anti-theft device will cause warranty problems rather than impairing battery performance. You need to check with other owners on the FZ thread.

                      Of course, I've seen many FZ owners getting leg guards&even ladies'footrests installed right on Day 1. It won't harm warranty since you are not drilling/cutting the chassis etc.

                        Hello

                        My suggestion yo you...

                        Ask yourself what segemnt 're you interested in?
                        150 or 180?
                        If 180, its undoubtedly Apache RTR 180 which has been declared the winner as against P180 by many magazines and websites.
                        If 150 or 150+, I'd ask you to look at Apache RTR 160 more closely. I do agree Yamaha FZ16 is great. Check **********.in Comparo section for more details. RTR scores over FZ!

                          FZ is said to have some Reliability Issues - not in engine Point of View - but in its spares..
                          There were many complaints on the Fragile Alloys - Rusting Parts...
                          And Insconsistency in Mileage.....
                          Do have a check on these things with some bunch of FZ riders and then go for a final Go.....

                            Yeah i already checked out the apache rtr-fi. I owned an apache 150 for 3 years . I loved the bike inspite of vibes at high speeds. And i see that the 160 too has it. And I needed a change from Apache . 180 is not my segment, just test drove it for the feel.

                            Ouch! That is bad news !! The alloys do look cheap on the FZ but I thot that was just lousy paintjob.

                              After using the FZ-S for 4 months I must say.. I made the perfect descision...

                              This bike looks one of the best.. overall performance is one of the best... and the whole bike is one of the best

                              The feeling that fz gives no other bike can!

                              i never had any issues with yamaha service..

                              Just close your eyes and get this bike... Buy the FZ-S though it got a much better looking headlight and color job.. it's only 2k premium..
                              Riding, loving and enjoying my lord of the streets.. FZ-S...

                              And dreaming of an R6/R1/FZ1/CBR 1000RR
