ninja 250 vs ZMR which is better for touring ?
i don't care about the price and power difference, that apart, which is the best bike for long rides. i want to have a comfortable riding posture, good suspension, seating, and well... low vibration at high speeds ( between 90-100 kmph). well i have to pick one up in 3 months or so between the two. please suggest....Mountain biking on impulse with my wife and our bike goes down in water

1. Ninja is quite practical it seems. Talk to people who are touring on it. Your posture is quite easy on it.Originally posted by insanebiker View PostTouring? The ZMR is the one. Ninja is not so practical. U need high octane fuel,u dont have a fuel gauge, and in case of a problem during tours, no roadside mech can help u out.
2. You do NOT need high Octane fuel. As in ZMR and Ninja can run on same fuels!
3. You have a low fuel indicator. Which is what most Sbks have. From whereon they quite easily do between 40-50kms. (Ex: R1, Ninja250R, 10R, etc.)
4. Roadside mechs cannot do much with the ZMR either!
But these bikes normally do not/will not need help of roadside mech's help other than for adjusting chain tension and oil change, simple and easy stuff. The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

You just cant compare these machines..
Ninja is the better one at any point of time, and is a class apart..
You can have a better idea of it, by just asking the guy here in this forum, who drove the Ninja from pune to chennai. ( his name just slipped out of my mind...can some one please help in this..)
I think this will help you to a certain extent.Last edited by mav1234; 11-28-2009, 05:46 PM.

Yup, it is xinfii from Pune. Has already logged some serious miles on his 250R and felt that the riding position was comfortable enough to do a 19 hour trip non-stop.Originally posted by harikeshpk View Postthanks guys.. but is there someone who has taken some long rides on the ninja ? ninja has a sporty riding posture or so it seems as i am yet to sit on one.

I am a karizma owner and I got a chance to ride the Ninja today too .. both are fabulous machines in their own right ..
Technically, .. Ninja would be a better tourer for solo mile crunching type of rides, where you might travel with minimal luggage.. vibes are almost non existent.. the brakes are beyond words. It's a very well planted bike and pretty forgiving too.. munching miles would be a piece of cake on it..
That said, it still isn't a practical choice over a ZMR.. Considering the fact that you'll carry luggage on your bike.. ZMR would be anyday a better choice for luggage + pillion.. ZMR is cheaper, so you save all the more $$ to tweak it to your liking (w.r.t luggage management, seating, electricals if necessary)..
I'd never bother with a saddle bag on a Ninja given a choice.. Also, if there's a situation where you might have to transport your bike (if you plan to ship your bike somewhere in India and ride, or if something conks off).. ZMR is a better choice
Unless you plan to much miles with just one backpack of luggage on your tours, ZMR would be a better choice ..
ZMA-R (and ZMA) is fairly low on vibes at 90-100 too.. so should the ZMR (if that's your prime concern)
the guy who rode to Chennai from Pune is Praveen Selvam (xinfii on the forum)Last edited by HydroXidE; 11-28-2009, 06:56 PM.

Verdict
I agree with ken kool that the Ninja250 is a better option
the reasons are quite justified-
#1 The Ninja has a higher dispacement twin cylinder engine, which gives it the ability to rev higher as compared to the Zma, giving it effortless high speed cruising ability.
#2 Considering the owner uses the bike for touring the higher peak torque of the ninja, developed at lower rpm, will give it the ability to overtake slow moving highway traffic as well as tackle Hill climbs!
#3 The riding position is quite good as the r15 has proven that a tourer can be competent even if it has a tucked in sporty riding position
#4 The braking of the Zmr, or any Zma is way behind the ninja, making the ninja a safer ride
#5 Who doesnt want to own a Kawa Ninja, baby or not!!!
If i were you, i would lay my money on the Ninja!!!
I gun the throttle, the motorbike wails, the forks heave up, the revs climb, my view blurs, air gushes in my lid, muscles tighten, street lights streak. Just another day at work...
