  • Which one to choose??

hey pals, I am Aditya from kolkata. I'm here to get experts comments from you people regarding my first bike.

okay let me start with my need..

1.I'll be riding the bike mostly outside the city since my college is about 30km from my home and I have to go there daily so daily usage will be around 60km only till this coming april after that I'll be riding mostly inside the city..

2.Bike should be good for long distance travelling since sometimes I may have to travel 320km up-down.

3.I am 5feet 9 and 80kg so I should feel comfortable while riding it.

4.No drag race or racing for me I love relaxed driving

    5.Budget is around 75k.

    I have short-listed 3bikes they are yamaha fz16,Honda unicorn n pulsar 220dtsi

I have ridden fz16 n unicorn I found them equally good though their performance are different..Unicorn's initial torque is not as much as fz16 that I have found out, but I have never ridden pulsar 220 only a friend of mine yesterday told me to look about this bike too, but I am little concerned since it's a bajaj product so reliability may be an issue.also the after sale service n cost of the service matters a lot..It will be great if you people can tell me the avg mileage for p220 since 60km/day is not that less so I am little concerned about it also because some people say that they get 45km/l where as some say that it only near 30km/l and what will be the performance after 2years..

anyway I am planning to buy it on january since it will get more resale value i guess, but should I wait for a 2010 made one or go for 2009 edition..??please solve my queries as I am in completely confused zone regrading this matter..

    thanks in advance..

i would recommend you a 220 cause its fuel average is 45 standard if you are a relaxed rider...fz whatever you do will give you 35kmpl at the end..but its an awesome city street bike...220 is an overall bike..can come as a tourer and a street bike...completed 8000km on 220 now and i found no problems as yet except minor niggles...but if you can sacrifice mileage and go for engine life,fz is good...however i also suggest unicorn over fz if mileage and engine life is important to you

Between the FZ and the unicorn, if looks is not a criteria then I say you go for the Uni. It is bullet proof. If you are concerned about looks, then Go for the FZ.

The 220 is in a completely different segment than these two. It has good FE, has more features and is a very good overall bike. It can also become helpfull if you DO decide to drag oneday.

FZ won't give you the mileage you need. Neither its much of a highway bike, with no wind protection at all.

Bajaj's reliability has been put to question many times, but after owning a Bajaj I can say its somewhat tolerable. Clutch plates burn faster, service includes only washing, machine may heat up quick, etc.. but still the machine does what we want it to, and good at it!

Unicorn is a reliable, torquey bike that will return good mileage as well. The main assets of it are its comfort (less vibrations) and the Mono-suspension.

Even in the city, Unicorn is great! So, it co-incides with you needs. I had a test of it years back, and even that old edition was so comfortable and pleasing overall.

Another great alternative is Pulsar 180 UG4. Its more comfortable & vibrations-free compared to P220, and it will return better mileage...
This bike's 260mm front disc brake and the grippy tyres are taken from P220, which are great at the job! Again, its a good enough mix of a city and highway bike. Looks great too.

            Close Alternatives: Suzuki GS 150R.

i will be beating the same trumpet and saying uni suits ur needs the best....its style performance and ease of handling all in one...monoshocks really enhance the bike's performance in everyway...

u said u dont wanna racing bike or dragster ....the fz or the 220 fall into those categories...

ur budget of 75k might be slightly extended to encompass the Avenger but check it out....its an amazing tourer and returns a mileage of 40kmpl ...(not personal but my frnd's experience)..its got style as well as comfort...

same thing here...go with the unicorn and you just can't go wrong... It's a really good bike from the point of all round ability. The GS too is an alternative, naturally but i prefer the unicorn.P180 too falls in your budget, another great bike which you can't ignore.Check that out too.It gives reasonable mileage,is comfy, gets most of the bits found on P220 and awesome VFM...
It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch

Uni is the best option from your list.

When you consider a P220, why not a Karizma-R; price is just 1.5k more than a P220. More to this, it is a proven, smooth, reliable honda engine. If you do not rip it, you can get 40 kmpl. Best suited for highways.
