        Do not confuse him Guys.......
@jd666 & L.P. - Your Recemmendation is ok But considering his fact of getting better Mileage...
Gladi is not a Contender for a Better Mileage - infact an Yamaha doesnt produces better mileage....
And also the Toe Gear Shifter will be an hard for a Newbie....

His choice to go for Star is an Welcome One....

Yes they are similar...My friend drove both solo and me with the pillion couple of days back...they both had almost identical pick-up and ride comfort. My friend was like...did they tune the Discover 100cc so well that it is matching 135cc almost perfectly....so he advised me Discover 100cc over 135cc as it is a better VFM....

also..Disco 135cc doesn't look so good...with the indicators clumsily sitting on the tank

@jd666 & L.P. Thank you for your suggestions...but as Thunder mentioned....I did not include them in the list solely due to mileage..and I read in Xbhp forums that the pillion seat is not that comfortable (slant and not much space)

@payeng: I went to the TVS show room yesterday and asked about the Jive...they told it will take another month or 2 for it to show up

I saw the TVS sport and TVS star city there...He tried to do TD but the Bangalore traffic was so bad at that point of time that he could not do it satisfactorily....He could only conclude that
          1. TVS star city is much more comfortable and felt "stable" than the TVS sport....Both of them weigh same 95kg*....but I don't why he felt that way.....Only difference between the both is suspension system....maybe that is the cause...
          2. TVS star city is much more smoother and silent than the Disco 100cc...He was not sure about the pick up becoz of the traffic

so we requested the showroom manager to bring their bike to my place...where we have a mix of kaccha and pakka road...and almost no traffic...moreover we checked the disco 100 and 135cc bikes on this track

I will let you know abt the TD results later today....

          Thank you all !

This is my first post here. I haven't driven a bike so far (I am 30 now ). I have only experience with driving scooters. I read many posts, reviews, bike reports, owners experience etc etc...but still could not nail down any bike.

Brief intro about myself....I am in Bangalore, I am a short guy 5'3" and weigh 60kgs. I am about to get married soon and I want to have a bike, goof around with it and be ready to take my wife confidently on it.

Moreover, there is a possibility of buying a second hand car within a year. So I don't want to buy a too expensive bike....budget say 50-55K max.....
A friend of mine had same to same requirements. He almost booked a Splendour plus(low seat) but the devil(yours truly) entered the scene, showed him the new FZ16, lured him to the biking religion, style, comfort, performance, handling and breaking - he ended up paying 72k for the FZ16.

He is happy in all the ways, only thing issue is that his wife is having trouble with the rear foot peg, when she wears a saree, he is going to get a foot step for the FZ sometime next week.

PS: I am not an agent of Yamaha, I dont intend to coerce you to buy the FZ

              @ironnori......

You have really chosen a segment where there are a lot of options and you need to choose on ur personal requirements, none can decide perfectly on that front other than yourself. The 100 or 125 cc segment competitors really doesnot hold things much benchmarking when it comes to true motorcycling...................apart from the mileage factor which soon gets to be the same for almost all bikes, bcoz mileage is something that totally depends on how you ride it and where you ride it.

I suggest you to go for something that is exclusive and makes you stand apart in the crowd, even with the mileage factor considered.Hereby goes my suggestions.

              100cc.......
It is better that you dont go for this segment at all,it promises nothing special and when you would go for a 100kms weekend ride you wont be comfortable with the cruising speeds these bikes provide namely,Platina,Alba,G5,Star,Passion,Discover 110.The mileage they provide can be salvaged from some best performing 125ccs under practical conditions(you dont get butter smooth roads on which these bikes are tested). But still if you want to try this segment out, be exclusive and I would suggest:
the newly launched Honda CB Twister,a mixture of style, perky performance and smoothness of Honda based reliability,a real 100cc bike that you can enjoy even on long rides.
Or the TVS Jive, you wont mind pressing a clutch while riding in the start stop city rides, just shift and move,a bike that behaves like a pampered scooter.
Given the enigne sizes they ought to deliver as much fuel avg as any others and both have enough service back up for you to not to worry about anything other than riding.

              125cc.......
Superb options, everyones great, but still exclusiveness is the criteria for riders with a difference in this segment.

Yamaha Gladiator:Superb tourer, mega performer, good handler, stylish, big bike feel..........nothing to go wrong with this bike.I feel you would do fine in the city and even on those 100kms weekends.Go for it,I insist.

But if you hate Yamaha and dont want to go for their product or need to be more exclusive.............no problem, next is

Honda Shine:Everything is better than the Gladiator other than the small bike feel,it feels like a fast 100cc to ride because of its sorry design and lean sitting postures.I feel not a happy one to do a 100kms comfortably.

Honda Stunner:Everything is better than the Shine, even the very big bike feel, but its costly. The Fi is out of question here(above budget),the carb one sufffers in the 70-90 zone which makes it an all show and no go.
Buy the Honda 125s if you love Honda, its smoothness and reliability, apart from these you wont be breaking any turfs on road.

Bajaj 125-135cc bikesiscover Dtsi,Platina Dtsi,XCD,XCD sprint.......they all cry above 70kmph.Vibrations and issues crop up as you round up 80kmph and you feel its better not to push them any further.Wont be giving you much fun on weekends.I basically swear that Bajaj destroyed their 125cc with the ending of Wind125.i wont suggest any bike from here, but one.

Suzuki Heat and Zeus:Highest on exclusivity, lowest on resale and service centres.Theres nothing really wrong with these twins except the way the company has backed them.Suzuki Zeus has a standard 125cc size and a very good performer when it comes to commuting and hitting long rides. With XTP(extra torquey performance) you would not feel the city traffic at all as it surges ahead start-stop with oodles of torque at low rpms.....then when you hit the highways,it starts gaining speed like Yamaha Gladiator, playing with five gears.Engine sounds fabulous above 90kmph and tops out at 101.1 kmph.It delivers a true road mileage of around 69 kmpl(the only commuter I own is this !!!!!!).It really has a meaty grunt being a 125cc,smoothest mill, and a really plush comfortable seat and seating posture.....you would be pampered with comfort!!!! It costs well within your budget and well the Heat is everything like the Zeus except the frills and maybe the product is to be withdrawn soon.Go for these butter smooth bikes if you really need full commuter and a part time entertainer and dont prepare to sell them.Keep them forever and they would look after you forever too.

Now the nicest bike that you must give a try.............is no other but a Bajaj.
Try the new Bajaj Pulsar LS.........yes, high on exclusivity,technology(4 valve),sportiness...a very well doing allrounder, its within your budget and by far would stretch around 2K extra, but you would really have everything you want in the world from it.Namely 150cc performance,125cc mileage, good resale value(a bajaj afterall),good exclusivity, solid after sales services.........what else do you practically need?????? This is the only bike which is true to Bajaj DTSi Dna and evolves it!!!

Please give it a try and you wont regret buying it,its a really great bike, which would put you in a league of future rather than putting you up with the past.

Hope my suggestions would help.................Because you are the best to know what suits you.

Frist impressions of my new bike !

                      Dear all,

I have picked up my Star City 110cc today....It has black and blue stickering, which gave itself a decent look...I requested for the following accessories
                      a) Engine guard
                      b) seat and engine cover
                      c) blinkers
                      d) helmet lock

As I don't know how to drive a bike still....so I had to be the pillion for the first ride on my new bike ....

                      1. I was happy that it comes with a tool kit, a cell-phone charging station and also a first-aid kit

                      2. My friend tried to start the bike with the ES...he pressed the switch and released it in a fraction...he tried it couple of times...it did not start that way...then I depressed it a little longer and only then it started... My friend owns a Honda shine and there the ES works with a touch and even in gear !! Alas, for ES to work in Star City, it has to be in neutral !!

                      3. The seating was very comfortable and the drive of ~10kms very pleasant.

                      4. Occasionally, I felt that maybe we were driving at low gear for the speed we were at...the engine was making such sounds. Moreover, my friend was struggling with the gears as they were very hard it seems
...he was saying that after 1st service things will be OK...what do you say guys?

                      Some more interesting information...
I was just glancing at the owner's manual....and found that the max. speed of this vehicle was only 83kmph....maybe the reason why it vibrates so much near 60-65kmph ! I am disappointed by the max.speed ....

Also, when we were driving on some rough roads....the stand was hitting the ground....which I did not like it at all....this is due to the low ground clearance height of 160mm...Man they don't have all the specs on their website and even the showroom guys don't tell clearly...

Let's see what my Star is upto in the future....currently it is resting in the parking lot...have to wake it up tomorrow and start mastering it

As per Thunder's suggestions, I have penned down my thoughts in TVS star city ownership thread...and I hope to keep everyone updated about my experience with my first bike

Thanks again to all of you!!

What a Charging Station, Great initiative.

Till 2000kms the bike will vibrate a bit more than it should be as the parts are new and will take KMs of riding to settle down, the vibrations will also settle down by the time you finish run-in.
I too rode my brothers Star city 2007, it didnot had any vibrations(very little though to say).

                            Bike is smooth but...

I have started riding my star....but i am disappointed with the initial pickup..
first gear maxes out around 10kmph....and it starts making so much noise but does not go beyond this speed.....similarly my second gear tops up around 20kmph...and again engine groans if you throttle more....

third gear onwards it is smooth....and I am running at max 45kmph as suggested by the manual...

                            Please give your comments/advice on
                            1) whether the above observed performance is normal
                            2) Should I wait till first service to see if this behaviour changes or
                            3) Should I go right away to the TVS station and get it rectified

                            Thanks

                              3) Should I go right away to the TVS station and get it rectified

                              Thanks
Yes man the above things are normal - But you have to start learning how make your Ride Smoother....

For the first and second gear do not make them to tha Max as you have mentioned as 10KMPH for 1st and 20 for Second...
Within the reach of 20KMPH you should be in your third Gear....
And after 40 - 45 you should go to the Fourth gear...

Star is an Commuter segment bike - so you should ride her Smoothly....
Everything will get fine after the first service....as the Engine oil which is in the Bike will be of Older so once you change the engine oil you will feel the Difference...

You have taken a good decision - do not have any second thoughts on it....Just ride ride and ride - till you feel you are comfortable
Infact each and every bike should be ridden in its own way..... A Shine owner cannot ride a Star comfortably and after riding your bike for many times you cannot ride another Brand bike easily..... It all comes by Practise.....

Happy to hear that you have got the New Star with the New Graphics...

Star is an Easy to learn Bike -- Post some Pics too....

third gear onwards it is smooth....and I am running at max 45kmph as suggested by the manual...

it's a commuter for gods sake...it's very much normal, the figures that you're getting.once the first service is done, the engine will get a lot more smoother and so does the gearshift
It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch
