  • Apache RTR 180 max payload

    Hi all,
I will be buying a new motorcycle in a couple of months.
I am interested in the new TVS Apache RTR 180. I have test-ridden the bike and I quite like it except for the fact that the front suspension bottoms-out on bad roads and the side-stand interferes while changing gears.
I was fixed on this decision until I read the full specifications.
    One line mentioned-

    Max Payload- 130kg

This was shocking! I weigh a little over 100kg. Adding a pillion will exceed the max payload stated in the specs.
My current scooter Honda Activa has a max payload of 185kg. Why is the RTR's just 130kg? Is it built only for racing?
Does this mean that this bike will not suit me? What other bikes can I look at? Other than the RTR, I have a soft-spot for the Honda Unicorn.

    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Vignesh G

I weigh a lil over 81kgs and believe me,the RTR suffers real bad with a pillion on board...it doesn't matter to me coz i usually ride alone and i use my other bike when i have company...You better consider the unicorn in that case...

              Thanks for the replies guys.
I will go for the Unicorn. Any idea if there are going to be any upgrades on the Unicorn? (especially because the Bharat Stage 3 norms are going to come in effect soon.)

              Thank you

Damn sure. The specification sheet of RTR 180 says
                MAX PAYLOAD- 130kg.

It is quite funny how the bike behaves with a pillion... The Front fork bottoms out easily and the Rear shocks aren't too good with a pillion, but it's really good when ridden without a pillion... According to the spec payload is 130 Kgs (65+65) only... Unicorn is a good choice but i would advise you to go in for a heavier bike like the P220 or a Karizma or even a bullet if you like it! All the best and keep us posted....

for unicorn the max payload is 170kg, it is one of the most comfortable bikes, but no match with performance of RTR180 or even RTR160.
why dont u consider the p220S, price is similar to RTR180

This is seriously funny to assume everybody to be 65kg,
Now i see why was Apache handling funnily when i was carrying my friend who weighs 100kg as pillion.. It was too good in singles but as soon as my friend sat, the bike felt like its way out of balance.. A speed breaker made thud sound too but am unsure if its front shocks bottoming out because of over weight..
                        Fun Starts at Redline!!!

FZ has got a max payload capacity of 195kg its on the manual...

@ threadstarter....unicorn is a cool bike ...go for it if u wanna...little maintainability...nice mileage...good power....but it does not provide the thrill of a racer...its a nice little kid bike...(no offense meant my personal opinion...)...

now looking at other bikes in the same catagory (price range) u have the CBZ extreme, the hunk, the stunner, and the pulsar all of which have better load carrying capacity than the rtr(whose max payload capacity is frankly shocking...)so look at all these bikes before u make a decision...

To ride or not to ride?? is a....
                          very very stupid question....

dude replacing an RTR with unicorn isnt smart! at least look into the FZ(which btw on heavy load might hit the center stand on humps) or inc your budget,if possible by 8k and get the P220!

but if you seriously want a simple, straight forward commuter, get the Unicorn

Thats wierd. Have rode many time with pillion including some 500+kms on my RTR160. Though there is loss in power it is not that bad that it struggles. Shocks are pretty good with pillion. Infact its perfect for city....takes potholes easier.
