New R15 or Fazer.....or FZ? I need to know by tmr!! Pls help me xbhp overlords

Hi guys, I'm Vinod from chennai. Im currently a college student at a private uni here and I've decided to buy my first bike. I've saved up a sum of 1 lakh to buy a quality bike.

I've spent the past year training on a Activa all the basic riding skills. I still have to learn changing gears though.

Today I went to a Yamaha showroom in chennai to check out their bikes. I am confused between the Yamaha R15 and Fazer. Pls help me out with my questions.

    Fazer:

Been told that the on road price is 84 000 rupees. Is this true? can someone confirm with me?

Thinking about the the white colored version. Any comments?

    R15:

The current R15 is no longer in stock. Will have to wait till october first week for delivery of the new redesigned r15.

I was told that the new R15 will cost at least 1.3lakh on road as compared to the 1.12 lakh of the current one.

While Im able to afford the current r15, the new r15 is out of my budget. (I cant get the current one either as it out of stock almost everywhere as far I a know).

What do you guys think? will the new r15 be priced at such a high price? I personally think that there will be no change in the price of the bikes.

Im really confused right now. Should I just buy the white fazer(which btw is available for immediate delivery), use the remaining money for fuel or do something else?

    Please advice.

P.S btw fazer and FZ-S? Any important reasons other the the cosmetic changes?

On road price in chennai of FZ-S is 79000 and Fazer is 84000. Someone please confirm this with me.

Thank you to all who have bother reading this post.

Yes. The Fazer costs in the 80k region.

Different showrooms are quoting different prices now. Just wait till 6th sept for the launch and we'll get to know the actual price.

Can't comment unless you specify what you are looking for.

err... didn't quite get your exact question, but yeah the FZ-16, FZ-S and Fazer are all the same bikes with cosmetic changes.

R15 would be a better bet... if i am not wrong, the newer models have the FZ clutch plates to give better low end throttle response... The advantage of FI system is better and linear power response in comparison to the carb bikes at various altitudes and weather conditions. R15 is just simply amazing to ride on highways and city as well... plus you have the option of pimping it crazy with Joel's power up kits.

In comparison, FZ/Fazer are good bikes no doubt but are street fighters... they have better low end grunt but lose breath at the top end.. post 95 - 100 kmph.. but do give a lot of confidence, thanks to better handling characteristics and awesome rider seating position. Many have done over 1600 kms saddlesore attempt without any problem of bikes ever breaking down or over heating even after being close to rev line.

The choice is simply yours in terms of what really you are looking at and are you ok spending 1l+ on a bike. if you indeed want to go for R15 then make sure that you wait out till sept 6 as it is more or less official about the launch of the new R15.. with better, bigger rear tyres and more agressive design!!

          cheers

Thanks for the advice guys. After giving lots of thought to the matter, Ive gone with the white fazer.

Yamaha R15 is a great bike, buts its not for me, a college student (At least right now). I think its for people who have the passion and more importantly the time to enjoy its fullest potential.

Having said that, Im eagerly awaiting the delivery of my fazer (due tmr) and hope to have a good time with it.

            Cheers.

Am planning to buy R15 (red is cooler to my eyes) in a month..

I know the new R15 (v2) is about to get to the showrooms but still i prefer the current R15 (can we call it v1? )

Am from Chennai and want advice on :
                -Showrooms
                -Accessories and Riding gear shops
                -38P1 or 20P2

A colleague of mine pointed out Paras Yahama as a reliable one and he know a good friend over there. Will this really help ? or can i go with a showroom near to my place (Jain Moto Bike)

Also i need inputs on stores for buying riding gears (helmets, gloves and jackets), stickering (right from number plates to sporty designer graphics)

Is the Blue one in showrooms now a 20P2 version ? The only reason i would go for a Blue one is because of smoother 20P2 engine from Indonesia. Is that a advantage over Indian made 38P1 engines?

                TIA !

P.S. I really love to see the passion in u guys for R15. Hoping to join u soon
                R15 - V1 - Red

Dude, wait for few days till the new version is launched. I beleive there will be some heavvy discounts on the older one (V1.0) as the new one is supposed to be priced very similar to the old one.

                  cheers!!

hey, aditya here...i have the same issue...in love with the white fazer...dad agreed to buy it...but im waiting for r1 v2.0.... im in a big dilemma... i know that the r15s amazing..the best indian bike ever made...but i would be riding in mumbai suburban heavy traffic (for those who dunno, here in mumbai traffic,u stop more than u ride...many signals...dont tend to go beyond 60 during day...average speed of 40..) im looking to do touring...but occasionaly...cause i have college and wont be possible all the time...so is it still advisable to go for the new r15..? spend those extra buks,,,but get myself a proper sports bike....
everyones views and opinions are welcome...
                    thank u..
                    P.S(and most importantly) ... i consider myself a "rider" not a "commuter"
