  • 3rd one in the stable. RX135 5 Speed or RTR180.

    Hi all,

Since motorcycling gives me great pleasure and utmost peace of mind and that I am sucker for sleek fast powerful bikes my evil biker brain has started comtemplating ideas for a 3rd steed in the stable. FYI i currently own a FZ s and a Bullet Electra which by themselves are great motorcycles. Whilst the FZS is a great city tool and aids in my commuting the bullet I plan to use as a tourer and for cruises on the ring rd. But my need for outright speed is not being satiated by these two machines.

So the need for a real affordable Dynamite and the RX 5 spped or the RTR semm to fit the bill so wanted to get fellow bikers opinion on wheter to source a used RX 5 speeder or to just go in for an RTR 180 and be worry free. Looking forward to your opinions and suggestion.

    Peace n Love

You may get a used 135 at a throw away price and since YAMAHA is providing the spares too, you can have a demonic two stroker at around 45000-50000 after brimming it with all the new parts.
And since it's a 2 stroker the kick it'll give you along with the muff removed silencer will be uncomparable
As the two stroker always make 60kmph feels like you're doin 80 something

But that'll be all about going in a straight line and enjoying the RAW power.
YOu'll still be having drum setup, it's no good for putting your knee down and will be sporting the dynamics that dates back to the 80's.

On the other hand the RTR180 is a new bike, will be providing you all the thrills with superb braking, awesome chasis setup, amazing performance on straights as well as the twisties.

RTR180 still have many more thumbs up at it's stable than the RX135.

          Affordable dynamite?

The RX is definitely more affordable than the RTR, but the RTR is more of a dynamite

RX is a bit lighter, 2 stroke, and roars..

RTR comes with more power, more speed, reliability, disc brakes etc..and is also very flickable.. decide on what excites you more and then go for it.

I had the same question in mind few days back, although it was not my third bike :P and now I am happy to say I booked an RTR 180...

Bangalore, I am trying to think why you asked.. Maybe cos the demand and value for the RXs vary from place to place. It is quite a cut throat affair here in Bangalore.

The 100 a friend is using for the time bieng. He says he ll buy it of me! The 100s forks are skewed and inspite of changing the wire harness and the switches and bulbs, battery n rectifier the electricals come on n go when they please. So it's kinda taking away the Zen out of my motorcycle maintence. And the kinda emission it puts out makes me really guilty about messing up the envoirnment. So it is kinda helping an unemplyed friend right now.

As you guys said the 2 storke will make 60kmph feel like 80 and I know the 5 speed makes its peak power in the higher rev ranges which excites me, but the RTR's dynamics on paper really is attracting me to it. Escpecially in that matte grey form it looks Brutal like it's namesake the Apache assault copter.

Though not a big fan of this genre of bikes....I still am a fan of the Original RX100 and RD350.....I am not too sure what makes the comparison honest....One is the beefed up version of a classic 2 stroke, but dated....another an excellent effort to regain the market share lost with Samurai, Shogun and Shaolin, but falling short of a little something.... perhaps it has something to do with TVS and Suzuki parting ways. If I were you I'd rather stick to the legend and look out for a 100 (Possibly one of the early models, with original Jap engines), deck it up and yes, get the rear tyres changed to Zapper or something better coz the original ones lack the grip.....hope you find your third Steed soon enough.... :-)

                        135

Hi dude......it is so obivious that u r confused....both the bikes are dynamites.....as a 2-stroke biker(KB100RTZ) I would definitely suggest the 135....also recently i read in autocarindia magazine that yamaha is working on providing parts for the whole RX family. And in a place like bangalore I am sure you will have no problem for parts and service.

On the other hand RTR poses its own values. It is ultra flickable(the yam is not far behind) brutally fast and stylish too. I haven't driven a 180 but have driven my friend's 160FI which I felt was good. I guess the 180 will be damn value for money too. The exhaust note is too good. Anyway forget about it if u want to cruise anytime. The exhaust is not silent enough for cruising.

The yam is flickable and fast but not around the corners. The 180 is ages ahead in this area. I can atleast tell you one thing for sure. 2-trokes pose their own problems. Overheating, oil consumption(yams drink more oil and fuel)cold morning starts and parts are the leading problems. Look after ur bike like ur wife, the bike will return u more than wat u expect. The RTR can survive better in harsh conditions too.

Both bike have their presence. But definitley the yam has more attraction. On the paper and reality the 180 is faster and has greater top speed.

Go for the RTR if u like modern digi display and all sorts of modern features. The yam is entirley a diff world. It will give u that adrenaline kind of thing. If u can take the small pinches the yam will give then go for the 135. Afterall it is a part of biking(my experience says so).
One suggestion. Don't go for any expansion chamber or any kind of modifications on the yam. All original feels better in every way.

                        Decide wisely!!

                        100cc doing 100+ is awesome!!

Right guys.. as of now deferd plans of a 3rd bike. Cos I wanna move outta me parents place and on me own. Gonna stick with the FZ and the BUll for the time being. But it seems quite an interesting topic of discussing a classic speedster over a new age pocket rocket. Mods if you deem it Ok please leave the thread open so that the discussion can go on.

hey!!why don't u give a thought to the Pulsar 220S as well? It's also really quick, quicker than the RTR 180 also i think the quality of bajaj is better as my friend isn't really happy about his RTR's quality whereas the pulsar 220 though not like the hondas isn't really bad
