  • Help Me Buy a New Bike!

Hey all, i am done with my trusty old scooter (which aint trusty anymore) and want a new bike now. BTW i am an average height but heavy 100+ kg kinda guy. my daily commute is around 100 km. around 70 on highway , rest offroad, i am looking for something 135 to 150cc .
    mileage 55-60 ..
should be good quality wise. (mechanics are real hard to find on this route) ..
price range upto 70-75 at max. ..
    no pillions. i ride alone/. .
    .good headlights are nice.
Styling dosen't matters as long as its not downright ugly.
    riding speed around 65kmph.
consider the above listed factors in order of preference as listed

For your frame & requirement I would request you to look at the following in no specific order -

      Honda Unicorn - 150cc
      Honda Stuner - 125cc
      Yamaha Gladiator - 125cc
TVS Jive - 110cc auto gear (don't disregard this one lightly. spend some time with it and see - you might just love the Jive. It pulls really well. Saves you money and is more practical.)

Please try them out for your comfort first. All of them have comfortable seats and riding positions (if at all you have to exclude one for these reasons that would be the Stunner)

        Thanks for the reply..
as ive heard highly of quality of honda bikes i am gonna give a serious consideration to unicorn (and most probably will end up with it). Also any particular reasons cbz-x and pulsars are not in ur list?

Check Pulsar-135, Suzuki Heat(best 125cc engine), HH Hunk and Unicorn.

Well, you said you are just average height and heavy.

That makes it difficult to swing your leg over on taller bikes like the CBZ-X, Hunk and even the Stunner to an extent. But with the stunner you can easily tilt it owing to lower weight. Otherwise I would have added the GS 150R to the list instead of the Unicorn.

Next, the Pulsars. Well, over 70% of the suggestions here would be for a Pulsar regardless of your requirement. But that is not he reason for omitting it. The 135 would be small on you. Almost all Pulsars have lower set handle bars. The seat's aren't really wide and comfy - the tank plays some spoil sport. You have the weight factor and longer distances on even bad roads everyday. That might not match up pretty well. And then, you need reliability. In my opinion the former options offer better comfort & reliability than the later in your particular case.

On second thoughts, you can try the Hunk & GS 150 R too. If they are comfortable enough for you to swing your leg, they offer amazing ride quality that you'd very much need so as not to swing your body fat (assuming you'd have some at that weight) at every undulation on the road - if that makes some practical sense.

Hey even i am shifting from Scooter to Bike.

Now i think you should Try Hunk,Unicorn Even GS150. Try to Test drive all these they will suit more probably your weight since you have mentioned you are 100+.

Average height hmm Don't know are you above 5 feet 7 inches then i think you should give a swirl to all three above and yes TVS Jive also will be good as well.I found it interesting.

Mileage for Hunk is around 40-50 And For GS and Unicorn above 50 For sure that's what i have heard from people who have these bikes. And Riding comfort for Uni and GS is good and pillion comfort a little bit better than Hunk i would say since i have actually been a pillion in my friends Hunk and UNI i find Uni more comfortable

As per your requirements, Avg height and heavy built, and most matching thing of riding at 65kmph and commuting on highway, I think you should go for Unicorn, it mathces your budget , smooth engine, and very firm while cruising at 65-80kmph. and many other things are beneficial, so it will be a good choice.
I dont sit ON my bike, I sit INside it.!

ok.. now i have done my homework and i came to know that honda is launching CB dazzler ., the new version of unicorn . Expected to launch in may. (i can wait till then) . is this the bike i am looking for , or is this going to be a sports bike with lousy mileage? worth waiting for this ??

About the Dazzler, i have absolutely no idea... what it will be !!
But i beleive, it will be the Unicorn re-modelled. The same engine with a li'l bit more power hopefully. As per IndianCarsBikes.in, the price of Dazzler will be 10k bucks more than its older brother Unicorn (which is on-road 66k avg in eastern india), i.e. totaling to near about 76k on-road. i don't know whether it will fulfill your expenses or not.

                      i am 5'7" weighing around 88 kilos...
so hopefully, quite similar to u (with absolutely no idea about ur height)
                      and i own a Stunner.
yes, i mainly do city-commuting and sometimes go for long-rides on weekends (quite unlike ur daily commuting!!)
But i can tell u, if u go for riding comfort, fuel efficiency and 60-70 km/hr avg speed, my Stunning horse is serving me well.
Recently, i made a 450 kms trip (Bhubaneswar to Chandipur and back) in a day. i absolutely did NOT feel any type of discomfort while riding, fuel efficiency was 60 km/l, and speed maintained on highway was 60-70.
(i kept it fixed on 60, but as the bull got warmed up, it shifted automatically to 70 in the same throttle!! That was really a nice experience )
Out of this 450 kms, 300 kms was "makkhan-smooth" road and rest 150 was quiet rough (under-construction road). That's why the mileage is only 60, otherwise it would have been more.

Yes, riding the same with a pillion will not be that good enough, but you don have to face that problem...

Anyways, my point is, u can give Stunner a try. Can also try out Stunner PGM-FI, though i personally don think it's really value-for-money stuff.
Being a 125 cc bike, it will give you good mileage and required power, stunning looks (the new stunner has got a tachometer included now!!), and absolute riding comfort for its aerobic design.

                        Few more things to add-up.
The headlight is quite powerful enough.
I am using Stunner for 7 months. Till date, i never needed to take it to a mechanic for any type of disturbances (just free services going on in SVC center).
Also, it is supplied with tubeless tyres (both front and rear). So u don have to worry about punctures...

                        2 cons that i've noticed:
                        1. Front suspension is a bit soft. Under too bad circumstances, it makes a "thud" sound.
                        2. The horn is li'l weak.

Well guys now that the dazzler is launched , i hope the scenario is a lot clearer. I like the increased average of 60kmpl (although some websites mentioned 70 on highway, is that possible?) and i like the dual disks. Now, the price mentioned of 63000 is that the price of all pimped up version of dazzler or of some basic model? What do you guys suggest that i should go with now?
Also i like the Tubeless tyres , are these included in 63k? Which other bikes offer tubeless tires in the 150cc and sub 150cc categories/?

For your budget i would suggest the PULSAR 220 S. The handling is similar to the F version, so it is a winner in the stability department. i can say this because i own the 220 F
when the strech is empty, my bike tells me to wring its throttle and give my commands!

                              Wots the mileage of a p220 f ?
PS: is there any chart available on the internet that tells the approximate mileage of all bikes and prices maybe?
