Thanks to all for their suggestions
So clearly R15 is on lead followed by RTR180.
I'll take a TD asap.
B/w can someone tell me the cons of R15, mantinence costs and cost of spares(frequently consumed/needed) compared to other bikes in segment.
@krates: how much time will it take?

Cons of R15:Originally posted by Blak View PostThanks to all for their suggestions

B/w can someone tell me the cons of R15, mantinence costs and cost of spares(frequently consumed/needed) compared to other bikes in segment.
1. Lack of low end torque (higher RPM power band won't make you think of it)
2. Pressure felt on wrists&palms in traffic (you get used to/outgrow it)
3. Seating position is sporty, some have complained of backpain though never for us who did a lot of touring on it.
Spares/service:
1. Oil filter to be replaced at 1st service&every 10K kms., cost Rs.430.
2. Spark plug to be replaced at every 12K kms., cost~Rs.100 for normal, Rs.550 for Iridium which will last for atleast 30K kms.
3. Air filter to be replaced at every 12K kms., cost Rs.230.
4. Chain lubrication/cleaning every 500kms. Rs.50 for each time.
5. Engine oil every 2000kms.for mineral oil: Cost Rs.220
every 4000kms.for semi synthetic oil: Cost Rs.420
every 5-6000kms.for fully synthetic oil: Cost Rs.620
I don't think you will need to do anything else for the first 1 year/10K kms.
6. Front disc pads cost ~Rs.700, last according to usage, average about 10K kms.
7. Rear disc pads cost ~Rs.1100, last according to usage, average about 10K kms.
8. Tyres last about 20K kms.cost ~Rs.3500 front&rear.
9. Chain sprocket kit lasts 20-25K kms., cost Rs.2700 total including chain kit+both sprockets
10. If you crash, side fairing is Rs.575, front cowl is Rs.430, headlights Rs.2700 odd.
Hope I covered everything!Quench my thirst with gasoline!

Those are hiked prices, due to lack of supply.Originally posted by Binoy View PostCons of R15:

I would have newer wished for more better info than this, thanks
So yearly/10k costs comes to approx 7.5k!!!!(excluding any crash expeneses). As i've not owned any bike before so how are these yearly maintinance costs as compared to other bikes....say apache rtr180
I was going through R15's ownership experiacnes and i have few querries
:-chain spray(motul/yamalube) - does it do work of lubing, it's cost and no. of times it can be used
:- owners are facing hell lots of problems, are they being extra cautious or all bikes are like this only

Thanks for the compliment, but I really didn't understand how you arrived at the figure of Rs.7.5K! Please give me the breakup!Originally posted by Blak View PostI would have newer wished for more better info than this, thanks

By these figures i don't mean that a person will be actually spending this much, It's like including depriciation cost of consumables lasting more than a period of 10k kms for eg. rs 1000 per 10k for the tyres
Also please reply to this:

:- what's the best engine oil for R15

:- What is most VFM way to modify exhaust sound although I dont wish for any power hike and will it void warrenty?

Thats an incorrect way of looking at expenses. Maintenance&resale are two different aspects.Originally posted by Blak View PostBy these figures I don't mean that a person will be actually spending this much, It's like including depriciation cost of consumables lasting more than a period of 10k kms for eg. rs 1000 per 10k for the tyres.
If you take a bike out of the showroom&head straight to sell it, you would have lost 5-10K!
It does its work for about 500 kms. One bottle costs Rs.430&can be used about 10 times. Cleaning bottle also costs around the same, but you will not need to clean it that often. Lubing is necessary. At SVC also you can get it done, for anywhere from just a small Rs.20 tip to Rs.100 as charged.Chain spray(motul/yamalube) - does it do work of lubing, it's cost and no. of times it can be used
Initially you need to use regular mineral oil, for Rs.220 a litre&change every 2K kms.Later you can shift to semi synthetic or fully synthetic, based on your choice. Semi synthetic lasts for about 4K kms.&costs Rs.420 a litre. More in the Engine Oils thread. What's the best engine oil for R15
Are you sure you are looking at the right thread?Owners are facing hell lots of problems, are they being extra cautious or all bikes are like this only
May I ask WHY you wanna modify exhaust noise? What is most VFM way to modify exhaust sound although I dont wish for any power hike and will it void warrenty?
If you are looking for a cheap alternative, cut the catalytic converter out, at the risk of the bike misfiring&popping.
Yes, ANY modification done to the exhaust, even the Daytona kit will void warranty.Quench my thirst with gasoline!

Noo!!!, I ain't getting me, i never talked abt resale value, here's the breakup for 10k kms acc. to me
Oil filter (1st service&every 10K kms) -- 2*430 = 840
Spark plug (every 12K kms) -- 1*100 = 100
Air filter (every 12K kms) -- 1*230 = 230
Chain lubrication/cleaning (every 500kms. Rs.50 for each time) -- 20*50 = 1000
Engine oil - (every 2000kms.for mineral oil) -- 1*220 = 220
(4000kms.for semi synthetic oil) -- 2*420 = 840
Front disc pads (for 10k) ~Rs.700 -- 1*700 = 700
Rear disc pads (for 10k) ~Rs.1100 -- 1*1100 = 1100
Tyres last about 20K kms.cost ~ Rs.3500 front&rear -- 3500/2 = 1750
Chain sprocket kit (let it lasts 25K kms.) cost Rs.2700 -- 2700/2 = 1080
That sums to = Rs 7700 approx(average maintinace cost as per as info. and details given)
Is there any wrong with the given meathod??
If the approach for the calc. is wrong, I think we should leave it aside coz I'm madly, deeply and blindly in love with R15 and now these things don't matter for me and tomorrow I'm goin for a TD!!!!YIPPEEE!!!!
Yes I'm looking in right thread, it's Motorcycle ownership experiences thread for yamaha R15
I wanna modify it coz simply I dont like it's sound(love the Apache's). I'll play safe and better leave the original exhaust do it's work
And most importantly, Thank you Sarvajit sir for your valuable suggestions

If you are so calculative and very much concerned about the running-costs, then i would suggest you to go for RTR180. It will save you almost 35-40k in upfront costs and even the running costs are much lower than the R15. R15 is a great bike but it comes at a cost and you have to live with that.
Also those breakup which you have mentioned also depends on how good an individual maintains his bike. So you just can generalize it.

I just love running my mind and always find myself chasing wildest fantasies and thinking utter crap...OT!!!!!pardon
Well for me apache is a serious contender for R15 and now all is left on TD or on DAD as he'll take me there
Thanks chicane1879 for reminding me savings of 35-40k (blind in love for R15 hehehehe) and your video's awesum too!!!
Well surprisingly I found that what all I dislike in R15 are the only things that i love in apache i.e. exhaust note, rear(tail) portion(as viewed frm back), speedo. console and initial pickup, that's it!!!!!!!!
Q: Is licence required for a TD???? I'm still not 18

Well I had a TD today(really!!!, I'll come to it later)
We had to go for a movie today, and approx. 1 hr. before timings my dad was free and we headed to TVS showroom(only 300 m from our home) but dad took me to Yamaha as he knew where my sole intrest was. OTR cost of R15 in jaipur is 1,11,190. Dealer initially gave no cash discount but only a discount of Rs 700 on teflon coating and central locking worth Rs 2700(for both combined), on instisting further he offered free teflon coating(worth Rs 1000) and free gloves (worth Rs 500, must be s**t), all this conversation haapend when I was away for so called TD which was on a new blue(new graphics) R15 and I was so pissed off to see that there was no specific TD vehical and this will be passed on to some one else(or to probably me, an earlier TD vehical), anyway I was accompanied by salesperson at back(performence to gaya bike ka) with words "saab battery charged nai hai, band mat karna" and I was, okay no probs. I started it and during ride i was surprised that it limited itself to 4k automatically
, i tried hard but tacho ristricted to 4k only, on asking he said "saab lagta hai petrol bhi nai hai"
, and yes console showed no bars!!!!When I reached back, it was time to go and the dealer at end said sir visit all the showrooms(3 of them here) and tell their offer, we'll give u the best one
.
Q: What do you think how much bargian is possible with the cost?
Q: Do you think central locking, teflon coating are really useful?
thanks
