  • Cbz VS GS150R?

Oh yeah i am back, im sure people remember me for 1 week late reply for the last post. sorry got my hand broke.. and now exams going to get over. i am getting my license next week n i am going to order the bike on the same day.. n yes i went for a test drive of GS 150 r @ 2 pm in the afternoon (i live in chennai).. my head went nuts due to the heat....My opinion

1.Suzuki showroom doenst know to impress a customer (the electronic start didn't work? the bike looked dusty .)
2.i didnt feel any problem ,bike was smooth..i was going in 20kmph in 3rd gear n 40 kmph in 6th gear :P, could raise it to maximum 80 kmph. due to mount road traffic (i guess traffic and 6gears wont clash)
3.The New suzuki looks is not great :@ it looks fantastic in suzuki website giving a GLADIATOR-KINDA-BLACK LOOK at the back , but in real.. it looks like some oil painting
4.Yes n i hear this engine noise like some fan attached inside ! lol gives a great feelin actually.. it gives a feel like driving some proper classic bike

    Now the worst part,
GS 150 r is. roundly 70k on road.. now this is making me feel bad !. is it really worth 69.5k ?? i am a student and i am not earning. and might use the bike for 3-4 years max after that ill go to do PG..(not interested in 2nd hands)

I rode my friend's CBZ xtreme few days back.. STREET DOG PICK UP ! i was amazed..damn smooth !!!i really liked it and its 66k , i don't know the flaws of cbz extreme .. please high light that up

Anyways the solid back up in my mind is.. if my mom says no to both these bikes as 66-70k is too much for 3 years then ill go for gladiator.. tested n i loved it !! but in case my mom says ok for 66 k (considering CBZ is HH n i can sell it for a better price than gs after 3 years) .. lemme know what to buy,

    My usage:
1.I live in tnagar (Worst place in the world)
2.I go to coll in OMR... 36 km from home .. TO and FRO (add 3 more kms in case i roam around)
3.Since im a student i dont earn. so i want 55+ mileage.. which all these bikes give if driven properly
4.I want some looks.. (cbz is letting me down here )

Though i like the performance of cbz.. the beast looks let me down, GS is fancy and has stuff!.. but i guess ill take another test drive by 4 or 5 in the evening before i comment bout it ! Gladiator is flawless except all u get is a 125 cc pick up !

CBZ-Xtreme will let you down in mileage and looks are subjective in nature. But if you need about performance and reliability, the Xtreme would be a wise option.

For 'better' looks and mileage you may even want to consider the new Pulsar-LS 135. It will cost you cheaper as well.

        1) to my knowledge the difference in price between the CBZ X & GS 150R is under 1.5K and not 4K as you said. Prices went up recently for all vehicles due to tax. Please check the latest price for the CBZ -X.

        2) CBZ-X gives a little less mileage than the GS 150R. But there is not a great difference. It is about 2-5 KMPL less max. For that difference the CBZ-X offers fun feel whereas the GS150R is a strict commuter.

        3) Why do you want to spend your dad's money on something so expensive? Settle for a Gladi or a Stunner or a P135. Save money. Even the 125cc are expensive for a college goer. Once you start earning buy your own vehicle and splurge what ever amount you want to.

All three are good bikes actually. Especially the Gladiator which is exceptional out of the three!

@Shrikky, please type in full words. It is difficult to make up words from your letters!

Yes, just checked and there is close to 3K difference in pricing. Dunno why the difference jumped up. But that is not a big thing to think off if you decide on which bike you'd take.

                CBZ-X Chennai OTR = 65,895
                GS150R Chennai OTR = 68,633

Hi Shrikky, excited bout getting into college eh?

You say your college is in OMR (which one?), which is a highway. The GSR is obviously the pick of choice for hassle free cruising on highways. The Overdrive 6th gear is simply great!! The Bike seems relaxed at 80kmph. To me it gives you that 'big bike' feeling whenever you are on it. Plus it does not lose out on performance by a big margin (0-60 in 5.5, according to Bike India, is really good for the Heaviest 150 in the market).

Both Hero Honda & Suzuki have been known for their robust build quality. Some of GSR's unique highlights are:

                      1) Overdrive 6th gear
                      2) GSX inspired console
                      3) ECO & Power Mode
                      4) Balancer Gear Shaft (to subdue vibrations from the engine)
                      5) Suzuki Jet Cooling System (some kind of Piston cooling.... gotta clarify it)

                      While CBZ's are:

                      1) ATFT Engine
                      2) Good Weight distribution (Good for Street & traffic negotiation)
                      3) Better Acceleration

In short, I would say that the GSR is a 'jack of all trades'. You must also know that the GSR is the 2nd best in Torque figures (next to FZ, forget R15). You will be needing lots of Torque on highways.

Test drive them both & listen to what your heart says.......

                      Cheers Bro,
                      Karthik.

Isn't that power and eco mode just a Rev reminder to save fuel?
yes power and eco mode do that.

if your family can afford 70 then u can definetly go for GS. When you ride you wont feel the weight. I live in outskirts now but lived in kotturpuram and still i go to t.nagar(West mambalam) every weekend. You can easily maneuver

But Gladiator 125 is pretty good.

                          Friendly Suggestion

                          Hi Shrikky,
Shall I suggest you something else, but don't get me wrong.
Since this is your first bike (for personal use) and you've just got your license I'll suggest you get a 125cc bike. In T.nagar traffic no 150cc bike can give more than 50kmpl even if driven sedately.
If you are getting a bike through EMI then don't spend on an expensive bike.Already parents will be paying college fee's , then emi's , fuel etc will add to it.Think wisely. You need a good looking , fuel efficient, reliable bike to go to college and only for three years.A 125cc bike will easily fulfill your requirements. Will be easier to handle in city, spares will be cheaper, and will give good mileage and indirectly will not reduce your pocket money.
The best 125cc I can recommend are:
                          1. Yamaha Gladiator SS
A friend of mine bought one last month, First time I rode a gladi, and I was surprised with the refinement, smoothness and the handling of the bike.Very nice riding posture so,expect very less or no fatigue on long drives.Front Disc brakes are nice & progressive with good feel.It is so effortless at city speeds(40-60).And the highway manners are talked all over in our forum.Suggest you visit the Gladiator thread. One more thing I just love the tachometer of the gladiator. AFAIK For less than 55k no other 125cc bike comes close.Period.
                          2. Honda CB-Stunner:
Looks.Looks.And some more Looks. An International bike sold the world over. Made in India and exported to many countries albeit in Fi form.
Very Very easy to ride. Good riding posture. Not to mention Honda reliability. Fuel efficient.Tubeless tires.Mature riding characteristics.
                          And Second Look Guaranteed .
It's expensive.Don't know what's wrong with Honda, their pricing s***s.
But do a test ride. It may stun you.

Of the two bike you've chosen 1st priority is the CBZ*Xtreme. Somehow I can't suggest a GS to a young college goer. But you can't go wrong with either of them.
Haven't you considered any other 150cc bike, why not a top dog 160.
Shrikky these are just my thought I wanted to share, don't get me wrong.

All the best for your future.
                          Regards,

you are absolutely rite bro... i would suggest a 125 for you now... but as the mileage part Gladiator goes down... my roommate owns one and the mileage he's getting is below 45... its an awesome bike, as i said before i don't find any difference between my FZ and Gladiator in the 60-80 kmh... its a lil bit slow until 60, after that it starts to gain its power until 80-85...
Stunner is also a descent bike(as per the looks its subjective, i personally don't like the looks of Stunner compared to Gladiator...) but its also an awsome bike...

Take a TD on both and decide...
