  • HH hunk or something else?

    hi.
i kno it's one of the most cliched questions to be asked in this forum but i'm a tad bit too confused right now...

i'm lookin for a new bike as an upgrade( most probably a downgrade actually) from my 2006 avenger 180cc. the reason that i abandoned my bike(even though i loved it very much) was because of the failing quality of bajaj spares and the disappointing ride quality after every extra k on the odo. plus the bike is not all that great a handler and believe it or not i found it rather straining on my shoulders(can say this confidently after makin a 330km trip recently)
    so now here's the problem-
i hav test ridden hunk,cbz-x,fz-16,fazer,pulsar(180 and 220), apache(both) and came to the conclulsion that---
    1) the fz n fazer not VFMs as they didn't perform all that excellently for the extra moolah.
    2) Hunk was a good ride, power delivery was good, i loved the stance and the big bike feel(considering that i'm 5' 9" and 80kgs,the bike actually felt bigger than me)
    3) cbz-x was a notch lower, mostly on the suspension side
    4) the pulsars were obviously gr8, but i seriously doubt the build quality after my previous experience and also i want a hassle free bike
    5) the apaches- both are out of the chase as i'm not into body massages so often in a day.....
    6) haven't tried the gs150r cause i don't trust it's service outreach
    7) and the r15 is not a VFM accordin to me(no offence to all ya die hard yamaha fans- i love yamaha too but i seriously don't think it to be well priced package)
    my requirements are
    1) a hassle free bike/ownership experience
    2) decent performance
    3) good looks(that's y unicorn wasn't on my test ride list)
    4)decent avg- not below 40...
    5)VFM
    6)cc no bar
    7) price no bar (i.e upto 1lac)

after all this chatter i'd like to mention that i was plannin to opt for the hunk but having read bout it having some gear box related issues( hard and clunky gearbox to be precise- though i couldn't find much on it in the ownership thread. ) i have kinda fumbled on my decision(if only i could find some owners to comment on it)
due to this issue i have begun to percieve the dazzler or the zma to be a better alternative- am i on the right path?

also is there any other bike i can opt for?

and can somebody truely tell me bout the gearbox issue on hunk, cause i'm kinda likin it a lot, but lackin confidence in the decision for the same.....

(sorry for the long and tedius description but i just poured my heart out here)
    The purpose of biking -
100cc- to get from point A to point B
    125cc- to get there fast
150cc- to have some fun while getting there
200+cc- to start from point A and forget when point B passed by

Check out the service out reach of suzuki in your area, yes i was just like u doing my research online and getting info in xbhp,

      i come n stand at GS 150 R
60 mileage/6 gears /69 k basically im in love with the smoothness of the bike and this bike is TOO BIG, too macho and highly stable

Hunk is really good, but some ppl say it struggles after 80kmph and slightly vibrates (m not sure cz it was just 1 or 2 persons and i dont think u wil go above 80 kmph that much)

Cbz-X is one of my favourites. it was the only bike which got my heart throbbing the moment i drove it (Without even thinking bout that bike before,i just took a randomn test drive from my friend).
Cbz-X gives you a really awesome pickup speed and mileage is 50.
About Looks its like LOVE IT OR HATE IT its up to . u love it, then cool else sowwie. performance - KING

Karizma is the best choice, but it does not give 40 kmpl (unless u ride it very sane). The average is 35 kmpl. Maintenance is also high side for Karizma.

Dazzler and Hunk are the other good options. If you are specific on FE, go for Dazzler. It is the new kid on the street with good features and reasonable performance. Maintenance will also be less for Dazzler and Hunk.

If you are specific on performance, go for Karizma.

Shrikky, the engines of both Extreme and Hunk are same. Mind range for both of these are very good. After 80, the engine will strain, as is the case with other 150cc mills). Vibrations are very minor and can be ignored easily.

^^^ does the gearbox smoothen out after some kms?

@ravi- not a very sane rider and not that particular on high mileage, am just lookin for a decent package that i won't need much garage time on and plus somethin that looks good

@shrikky- thanx for the info bro but the problem is that even though i might find a service centre here i still won't be sure to find it the next place that i'm posted at(that's why i came down to hunk- i'm sure the most novice of the mechanics can also open it up without any issues

other hunk owners, help me out yaar.....

I think you have already made your choice! Any other suggestion will make you compare with the Hunk and will surely confuse you..

Karizma R is a good option for you..

Suzuki GS150R is a comfortable bike with good mileage and you can switch between ECO/POWER mode!

The new Unicorn Dazzler seems to be a hassle free bike, and have good disk brakes n mono suspension!

@ jayesh- what exactly do you mean by a hard gearbox? is it ruin-your-shoes material or is it jus a problem in downshifting or simply a neutral impossible to find?

                        ^^ i haven't had a test ride on the r15, but that's only cause as i mentioned i don't find it a VFM package.
the bike that i'm buying as of now is only for say the next 3-4 yrs of riding(after which i plan to keep it still and hence i doubt the pulsars ability on this) and to perfect my biking skills( cause it's different on a cruiser than a sportsbike) as after a few yrs it's gonna be followed by a 250 or a 400 cc bike(hence i don't wanna buy an r15 as it would ruin my plans later). that's why the emphasis is on something with a sporty stance as easy go maintainence....

Hunk is a very VFM 150 considering the the prices of other 150s which are almost >= 70,000. Coming to the vibration beyond 80 and struggling part, its all crap. I regularly take it up to 110 on speedo on NH and have never felt such an issue except for days with heavy wind .Tune it as per your requirement, Opt for a semi synthetic/synthetic engine oil, maintain and service it regularly and you will find it for yourself. One draw back is that hunk does not sport the heavy handle bar weights like on pulsars which do a very good job of damping the persistent buzz in the handlebar. The plastic ones on it weigh only~50 grams and are practically useless. Fixing a pair of heavy ones eliminates most of the vibrations in the entire rev range. The reliability of the bike is top notch and the cycle parts dont give up quickly even with good amount of abuse. As per your requirement you can try these

                          150' s:
                          Hunk/Cbz-Extreme
                          GS-150R
                          Unicorn

                          180's:
                          Pulsar-180

                          200+:
                          Karizma

PS: I personally feel the looks of Unicorn are better than Dazzler. The headlight and Rear of Dazzler dont appeal me. Hence i did not include it in the 150's.
