  • Pulsar 150 UG 4.5

    Hi Friends,

I am planning on purchasing the Pulsar 150 UG 4.5 and I had a couple of questions:

    1) Have any of you test driven/own the Pulsar 150 UG 4.5? If so do you have any feedback?
    2) The UG 4.5 has clip on handle bars. While I appreciate the sporty stance they give during riding, I am worried about back pain for long commutes (e.g. 20-30 kms at a stretch) or driving in stop and go traffic. My height is about 5'10" and I have reasonably broad shoulders. Do you think it might cause back pain?
    3) I know that the power has gone up to 15 PS in UG 4.5 but the torque has gone down by 0.25Nm. Will this drop in torque be noticeable - i.e. will it mean frequent down shifts at low speeds/rpm?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Nandu T

      1) Have test rode it, a slight improvement over the ug3. But, definetely not commendable.
      2) No worries, you will soon get used to the stance and it is not as sporty as you think it is.
      3) I own a 180 UG4 that has 1NM torque dropped as comp. to ug3 and i regret that alot. You might too be one of me.

My honest suggestion, UG4.5 with added Clip-ons looks UGLIEST 150cc to me, now. The clip-on's just does'nt suit to this bike, it's due to bad design. Bajaj have just picked up that part and straightly plonked it onto the shocks without thinking about the look and Mind You! I have seen 5 UG4.5 in SC with broken CLIP-ON's.
Instead, choose P180 it has all perfectly matched MACHO looks. and cost too is not a concern coupled with maintenance & mileage.

I will try the P180 too in the nearest showroom this weekend (I live in Chennai).

How is the riding position/comfort of the P180?
Had any major issues so far?

        Thanks,

        Nandu

          Hi Nandurajan,
I own Pulsar 150UG4 and my elder bro owns Pulsar 180UG4...These two bikes where first UG4's in Hyderabad... 1)My friend owns 150Ug4.5.. I hav test ridden it and Felt that the pickup has slightly increased in P150 UG4.5..
2)In Ug4.5 you have an option of having normal handle bars or clip-on...Its your choice.. well clip-on's give you sporty look and this may take time for your body to get used to...
3)I dont think 0.25Nm will give any drastic change in gear shifting...
Now,the point is why I mentioned P180 Ug4 is..My bro is a kind of ripper...he ripped his bike too much and thus ended in getting low mileage...i.e-30-33km/lt..I too ripped my p150 hard..my top speed till now is 119km/hr.. But still I get 50-52km/lt...
Its up to you dude,, choose bike wisely

As far as 180 is concerned, It is definetly worth a buy above 150 in Pulsar series. It is too gaining a Commuter - segment bike tag. My bike gives me 50-52kmpl and no major issues till now. If you are a SANE rider, like me, then go for 180.

              Thanks for your comments Yasir

I didn't know you can choose normal handle bars for P150 UG4.5

I'll refrain from ripping my new bike too much

                    even i saw 2 P150 ug4.5 with broken clip-on's.. 180 is better than 150 bro..
once you will ride 180 you will not think of buying 150..

Dude Pulsar 150 is smooth like hell.. it has more of a commuter seating position..

if you need a very smooth bike then get the 150.. friend got one recently I loved its smoothness.. if you like cornerning then look elsewhere but

Why still pulsar? If performance is the criteria, then Apache is avilable. If looks is the criteria, then Fz is there. If peace of mind as well as spinal cord is the criteria, then why not Unicorn?
Pulsar is jack of all trades but unfortunately master of none! and LOOKS REALLY DATED!

as far as clip-on handle bars are concerned.........i don't think there should be any quality related issues.........if you still feel the same........opt for regular handle bars..........

now if you are going to use your bike for touring quite often and will be riding on highways.....frequently........or if you are fond of fast riding........go for 180........coz all 150/160 CC bikes feel underpowered if your heart beats for rossi kinda types.......

and regarding this ......why not apache......i will tell you a few things
                              • ever wondered why there are more pulsars on road than apaches?
                              • Apache is a very short and small bike.....and the wheelbase is also short......that makes it better for city only and not for long runs
                              • although pulsar is old and little bit.......only little bit dated in looks.........there is an aura around the name pulsar...........everyone when looks at ur bike thinkjs in his mind ..oh its a PULSAR.....
                              • pulsar is the big daddy and father of indian sport bikes........rest everybody just copied it.........and followed the trend.....
                              • ever thought why pulsar is the most used and abused bike in india.........why most tourers ...tour on pulsars...............why most of the stunters use pulsar...........man there is a definite AURA around it....
                              • believe me pulsar is still teh best ....coz it give value for money......it now even comes with all DC electrical system.

these are all my personal opinion ...i may have gone a little bit overboard while praising pulsar..........but most of the things i said are true.

pulsar has one negative also..........seat is a bit hard.....but if you want an extremely comfortable ride go for unicorn.

yamaha bikes are also good but looking at price.........cost is not justified.......

if looks are the only criteria......go for R15, FZS, Fazer

                              if you want performance...go for P220, P180, R15, maybe RTR 180

if you want a good overall bike which will be used for within city commuting only 90 % of time...go for Unicorn (any version) smooth engine, comfy ride, looks and performance compromised a little bit.
