  • Suggest A First Bike

I need the suggestions from you about my First bike. I have just started learning how to drive. Once I get my bike, I will practice much on that. I am not a speedster, will never cross 50-60 kmph. I will drive in city, max 30Km per day. Also I am 5'10" and about 68kg.

When I have decided to get a bike, I have started searching various forums. Most of the people say Honda is the best, followed by Hero Honda.

Requirement 1. Should have Very good mileage.
Requirement 2. Should be Decent in Looks
    Requirement 3. Should be reliable
Requirement 4. Should have good service
Requirement 5. Should have low maintenance.
Requirement 6. Should be Comfortable to drive in City.
Requirement 7. Should be easy to ride for a New learner like me

I know I am expecting a bit much...

    Budget : 60K.

5 days back, I went to the Honda showroom (JSP Honda) and inquired about Shine. They said, the waiting period is 2 months for Non disk model.2.5 months for disk model. I am seriously disappointed with that time line.

Twister has immediate delivery. I looked at it, liked it for looks and reliability of Honda. He said has got better pickup than Shine.

I read here lot of user mentioning about Gearshift/ Saree guard/ Open chain Issues.
Now I am in a dilemma whether to go for Twister of something else. Still I am leaned much about Twister due to mileage factor.

    Any Suggestions would be great

For mileage, looks, price part I think it should be P135LS as any 150CC won't satisfy all of the three constraints.

I dont like Bajaj. Just checked the HH website.. Din't like any of the bikes.

Any way to overcome the Twister flaws like Gear shift/open chain etc?

            You can look for:
            1) Stunner FI ('FI' makes sense)
            2) Yamaha Gladiator (VFM package)
            3) Yamaha YBR100
            4) Suzuki Zeus (Best commuter under 125cc)
            5) HH Hunk
            6) HH Glamour
Personally, If i were given a chance my pick would have been (blind-folded) Pulsar 135LS. You might not like Bajaj for your reasons but they are not as bad as people think. Their service & parts quality are comparable to other bikes(manufacturers) now. Primarily, in a commuter segment you should also look for after sales service back-up. Some of the leading 'Japanese' are lacking behind in service back-up when compared to Indian manufacturers. Better choose HH or Bajaj.

I have just checked the HH showroom. The passion Pro Black with Heavy Grey is too good. I liked it. On road price of 56k inclusive of accessories.

                Any comments on this?

i feel you should add the CBF stunner, and the gladiator. The gladiator is a good mix of looks, performance, and efficiency.

STUNNER FI Are you kidding?? the thread starter's budget is 60k & you are suggesting a bike with a price tag of over 75k. The hunk is also a 150cc so it is not very fuel efficient.

@thread starter: As abhi has said the suzuki zeus & glamour makes sense if you want a good commuter with fuel efficiency & torque.
I would suggest you the gladiator if you are satisfied with a mileage of 55-60 kmpl.

PS:- No one can defeat the bajaj in terms of fuel efficiency.

                      @madhav:
I told him Stunner 'FI' on the basis of showroom price.(not onroad). If anyone wants to buy a Stunner i will always be suggesting an 'FI' that means some good FE, low maintenance, natural performance throughout the engine life.

but is the extra price justified for someone who is just looking for a commuter bike . the marginal fuel efficiency increase will not offset the extra price unless the running of bike is very high . Fi cant be serviced everywhere while carb can easily be fiddled with .

@OP - i suggest Twister from honda else P135 if you want more power .

                          ^^
I second Puneet on that .
Hondas are reliable and last for ages if maintained properly.

Make a list of all the shortlisted bikes and do thorough test rides. See which bikes makes you feel confident and comfortable .
Try to keep some money aside from your budget , for a nice safe lid and some other riding gear .
Good Luck with your purchase and keep us updated about your decision.

Thank you all for the reply's

As of Now I am inclined towards the below.

                            1. Hero honda Passion Pro ( 55K)
                            2. Hero Honda Glamor (57K)
                            3. Honda Twister. ( 60K)

Can some one please tell me the mileage for the above three.. My frnds told me that they are getting close to 60 easily with Passion pro.

I had a close look at the twister yesterday and I feel it Puny. Also the way they designed Pillion and Helmet lock is really bad.

^^ Go for Passion PRO, It is backed by a good service feedback by HH + most of the roadside mechanic's in India have good hands while servicing a HH bike. It is reliable, good FE, and most important a "Trusted and well accepted" product from the lot of HH by Indian bikers. While Twister is a good bike, but i didnot like its 'LUNA' like tyres and in some areas it seems poorly designed. Passion has a good mixture of design coupled with refinement by Honda.
My elder brother used to ride Passion 3 years back and it was delivering 70-75kmpl even when it has 54000kms on the odo.
