  • Buying first bike, but which one?

    Hi!

I'm Zahed. Turned 18 a fee weeks back, DL on its way, Dad says that he'll buy me a new bike. But I'm confused as to which one would be good.

I've gone through the ownership threads of HH Karizma ZMR and Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTS-i.

I came to know of the problems that "SOME" of the P220 owners have. But not really a fan of the ZMR too.

Please help me out as its gonna be my first one. I've been driving geared two-wheelers since I was 12 and not once have I fallen off any vehicle [Not boasting myself.] Maybe its 'coz I ride safe with my eyes open and always on the road.

Anyway, I guess its between the ZMR and the P220.

    Waiting for help.

P.S.: I've got lots of time as my CET counseling is in the month of July. I'll take the decision after going through all the expert advice.

    Thanks.
    Bye! Take Care.

@zhk : you should give some of your needs so that WE should give you a proper advice.
what are your needs as in whether you need a bike for commuting or touring or you will be taking it to tracks etc etc .
      Is mileage your concern ?
your height , weight etc etc.

you can look at R15 , RTR 180 too.

dude IMO ZMR is a waste of money! consider zma if your into touring!
but for performance its got to be either p220 or RTR180! p220 is the best VFM bike ever!period! but handling is a problem!if want superb handling go for the RTR180 even thats great VFM! r15 even though a great bike isnt too good for the cities

Ya i need it for commuting. very very very rarely go out for touring, like twice in a year, and nope, never to the tracks. I take real good care of whatever is given to me. I still have my little toy bike which I got when I was 5 or something.
Mileage would be a concern as I'm still studying and have to manage from pocket money. FE could be between 40-45.

              My height 5'10, weight 65kg.

R15 was the first option. But mom n dad ruled it out saying they won't feel comfortable at the pillion and moreover its height is quite low.

I hope this is enough info.

              Looking forward from you guys!!

But my cousin's already got one. So chances are a bit less for ZMR I guess.

Go for the RTR 180 since you only need for city commuting and I dont think it would be burning hole in your pocket in terms of average.
Plus it is more agile compared to 220 which is a bit on heavier side and the apaches are famous for their raw power feel.

see man....thing is....im 6"2.....im heavily built....so the bike looking good when my mom is seated behind me is "totally out of perspective"...what i can tell you, assure you is that.....i swear.... believe you me....i just love this bike....and honestly, it does look quite well on me.....and please do not worry so much about the looks....i didnt...and thats why am enjoying it to the max.....the way she(read:r15) turns to my slightest wish...the way she accelerates(till 5k rpm am not allowed to do more acc to the manual) ......

and dude,r15 is a head turner...anywhere you go,everyone is bound to stare at it....its just been a week since i bought it and around 10 pple have come to me to enquire about it......and just yesterday some girls came to me as they wanted to take pics on the bike....

buy any bike u love riding, dont take the looks factor too much into consideration....

any other info u need just PM me...ill be happy to help....

PS:as for your question, the bike is off limits for my parents!!!!

                            Hey buddy,

Nice question....It is not even about if it will look good but will she be able to sit properly? All these high end bikes have a sporty posture so the pillion seat is always high. Only suitable for GF!!LOL!!Just kiddin...

Anyways as everyone says I too feel RTR180 is a bike worth considering if commuting is the primary criteria. Have nothing personal against the R15 or the ZMR(In fact I love R15) but don't feel they are practical for your use. R15 has the top end power that no other bike has and awesome cornering ability and obiviously you can't use these in city. ZMR is purely for touring and a little commuting. Again a great bike.

RTR has loads of low end and mid range tourqe which is perfect for city riding. It is also light and nimble. You can flick easily, thanks to its light weight and short wheel base.

If you don't want RTR go for P220. It is an all rounder. Only thing is that you'll have to manage with vibes at higher rpm and it isn't easy to flick due to its weight. But you'll love the raw power.

But if you say you go for touring only 2 times in a year then I would suggest you to go for lower cc bikes(150-180). FZ is very practical for city riding and will offer the mileage you want if ridden normally. The whole RTR family is suitable for city riding. P180 is also good and VFM.

Pls tell what's your budget. Do you want high end perfomance bikes or will optimum perfomance be ok?

Waiting for reply. Will be glad to help you.

My budget is within 1.10k. I don't really want to compromise on anything coz its my first bike.

I don't know why, but just can't stop thinking of P220. My cousin's got a ZMR, so I don't feel like riding RTR 180 beside him. Something like the R15 or the P220, which can give him some serious competition.

And BTW, is the KB100 on the profile pic yours? My dad had it too. It was such a wonderful bike and what pick-up? I rode it only for 2 years though. Its a good bike.
