  • Quest for a Good Scooty

    Hi Guys,

    My

So thought to share my dilemma with group.

    So here is the problem
    • We are planning to a scooty in next 7-10 days
    • She is 5 Feet 2 Inches and weighs about 46 Kgs
    • The scooty will be used for commuting from PG to college/coaching center with an average daily commute of about 12-15 km.
    • The wish list is not very high just it should be light weight and easy to maneuver so that she can easily handle it.
    • I have ruled out electrical variants coz in a PG charging can be a problem (just my thought, please correct it I am wrong)
    • Budget is not a problem as such but like all middle class people the lower the better
So guys please help me out to list all the available options and choose the best one from them
No Matter Whether Guys buy 220cc Pulsars or 350cc Royal Enfields,
It is used only to follow a 80cc Scooty Pep...

    I would say Aviator/Activa.

    Approved
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

If I've to buy, I would go in the following order
      1. Access 125
      2. Activa/Aviator
      3. HH Pleasure
      4. Scooty
      5. Mahindra Rodeo (after some research)

Why do you put the Suzuki above the others? (Aviator has discs!)

You're right on the disc brakes Sir; my personal preference is Aviator (though being a proud owner of Activa) but I suggested the order for 2 reasons...
          1. Ladies generally prefer less weight - Access has less weight compared to Activa/Aviator
          2. Ladies are known to ride fast & brake hard; imagine the consequence of using disc brakes; besides ladies are not impressed with technology, all they need is to get them from point A to point B.

PS - I should've rephrased something like this - If I've to buy for my cousin sister, I would go in the following order
Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle
Awareness + Skill is what keeps you out of harm's way
ATGATT + Awareness + Skill means you might Live To Ride another day

My Cousin sister just turned 18 last month and we are planning to buy a scooty for her and I don’t have any idea of this segment(please dont go on my signature )

"Scooty" is a trademark name registered to TVS Motor.

Anyway if your sister is on the shorter and lighter build, she would be most comfortable on the TVS "Scooty" Pep+ or the "Scooty" Streak.

The Mahindra Flyte and Hero Honda Pleasure might also suit your sister's physique.

The Activa though a proven scooter, might be a bit bulky and heavy for your sister.

But its better for your sister to personally check out the selected models.

HH Pleasure is best for girls as it is light to ride and has good initial pickup too...activa will be heavy

I think all Honda models now have CBS on the left lever. Secondly, I think that disc is still best for braking. You get used to the efficient braking system.

I wonder how the flyte will be like. Yes, true, should check out the models personally for weight handling etc.

This is something I wrote to my sister in law, which I am sure will be helpful to you too. Being in Delhi, the on road prices will be bit less by some thousands.

These are Thane/Mumbai prices. Accessories will cost max 500-800rs. Don't buy accessories from the dealer, same accessories are available cheaper outside. Good helmet costs 600-800rs

                  Honda
Honda Activa: Base version Rs.48, 083
                  DLX Version Rs. 49,355
Good looks, low power and low mileage (35-40 KM per liter). Don't belive anyone who says it gives 50 KM mileage, not possible.

Suzuki Access 125- Scooters Manufacturers India
                  Suzuki Access: Rs.50,865
OK looks, high power and high mileage (45-50 KM per liter)

TVS Scooty Streak - The latest scooty made for the girls who is both tough and trendy
                  Scooty Streak: Rs. 36,525
Good looks, low power and low mileage (35-40 KM per liter)

Mahindra Flyte Bikes, Gearless Scooters in India
                  Kinetic Sym Flyte: Rs. 44,546
Good looks, hign power and low mileage (35-40 KM per liter)

As you can see, the price difference between scooty streak and other bikes is large. One of my collegue is using it for a couple of months, and its going good. If the budget is bit tight, and the bike is surely to be used mostly by her or by single person, then I would go for scooty streak. Use the saved money for next many months of petrol & service!

That chrome thing you saw on the left lever is not CBS, it is a hand brake for parking on slopes etc. My '99 model Kinetic Honda Campus Chill also sported it.

My Choice will be in the following order....

                        1) Honda Activa / Hero Honda Pleasure

                        2) Mahindra Rodeo

                        3) Scooty

both activa and pleasure are good vehicles....personally i prefer activa coz i think it is more reliable, has honda technology, i guess tubeless tyres....and honda name.....though my girl preferred pleasure instead of active for a simple reason that pleasure is lighter that active.....although i don't know the weight of both the scooters but i think there should not be significant difference in weights.....but most indian girls have this mental block that activa is too heavy.....and i just couldn't convince my girl to buy activa......she said if activa gets punctured she cant pull it .....

ofter this comes mahindra rodeo......it is second on the list just because it has not proved itself in market for long run.....

scooty is third coz i seriously think it is underpowered.

tell you cousin to choose from activa and pleasure only.....don't go for any other thing.

My vote is for the rodeo. Sleek and looks great. Something out of the box. I'm not sure about it's mileage. But all automags have given only positive reports about rodeo so far. Has good amount of power and plenty of modern bits. Tyre grip and brakes are good. Has a 125cc unit.

Electric scooters is a big NO NO! Service is a big problem. I would suggest to stay away from the scooty family. Really skinny tires and one wouldn't dare to touch the brakes when above 50. And you'll find enough of these vehicles around. Too many. Only the streak is average. The vehicle will start floating above 40.

Suzuki access is also worth considering. It is a bit heavy but trust me, riding it inspires confidence. Remains planted very much at higher speeds(50+). Loads of power from the 125cc engine. Tyres are wide enough. Braking is also good. But I feel it looks ugly(my perspective).

Honda aviator/activa are not good on mileage side but very reliable and has that proven engine. Seating is a bit high compated to others.

HH Pleasure can also be included. Built for women(still find enough men ridin it). Optimum perfomance and mileage. OK OK looks. Cheap spares and good service.

Pls ask your sister to go for a Test drive and she'll insantly be goin for the right one. Only thing check about the dealer's service with the locals.
