which enfield to choose
Previously I liked the all new STD 350 UCE, for its old school charm and low price among all the offering from RE. in Kolkata it is around 96000 INR and has 1-1.5 months of waiting period. Yesterday I went to a RE showroom, saw all the models. What I felt was that TBTS has taken my heart. According to me it suits me best. I love the way it stands out from the others. Finishing wise it is best among other models from RE(excluding classics as 500 is out of budget and booking for 350 is closed for Dec 2010). I cant wait that long. So I request all of you to give your valuable inputs as I will book in next 2-3 weeks. Thanks in advance.

TBTS is a good choice although I favour the more powerful 500's. But since your heart is set on RE+TBTS then go for it. The high stance of the bike gives a great feel while riding. It glides over potholes and is a great highway cruiser. Comes equipped with tacho , trip meter and fuel guage which are essential tell tale equipment.sigpicThe Moto Cafe - India's first bike theme cafe @ Chandni Chowk

Thanks Ken Da for quicl approval.
Thanks niks for your quick input. Yes RE TBTS offers all the goodies over STD 350 UCE. The price difference is around 15000 in Kolkata. As i am new to RE, as never riden one, dont khow the advantage of ES abd DB over KS and drum break. Is those are that needful? About TBTS, the seat is very comfortable. And I like the high stance too? How the shocks of TBTS(gas charged) are different from the STD in terms of ride quality?

Disc and ES are needed. One for safety , one for convenience. The shocks are better than std 350 , offers a better ride quality.sigpicThe Moto Cafe - India's first bike theme cafe @ Chandni Chowk

This bike will be ridden on weekends only for the time being. For the other five days it will be in my garage. And the weekend runs will be also low, only 100 - 150 kms. Will it be any problem, as I feel the battery will not be getting enough charge. I also read in some posts that RE ES not that reliable, which leads to serious problem in clutch plate. I would really appreciate if someone enlightens me in this regard.

Go for TBTS
Hi,
All RE bikes now have the same engine. So it is just about which one you liked. And since you have chosen the TBTS, got with it!
It's a very good bike. My friend recently got it and I got STD 350 CI (the last few ones to be sold
)
Go for it dude. I would suggest to go for Disc Brake and Electric Start (especially for UCE engines)
Thanks,
Subu.

Congrats SUBU for your Iron Bull. I must say you are lucky. Do post some picture of your Bull.
I will book one on the first week of August. For any RE bike in kolkata (except Classics) waiting period is 4-6 weeks. Hope to see my bull in the mid of september just before of my B-day
.
The store where I went refused to offer a test ride saying they dont have bikes for test ride. A test ride would have been helpful for deciding my steed. As this is my first RE and planing to keep it for time, so dont want to regret later. Anybody from kolkata knows where can I get a test ride
?
Thanks

Should I consider Electra?
Lately I was thinking of electra also. As all the enfields (except CL500) comes with the same heart, I believe all will be same from performance wise. If I go by looks only, the engine block of electra and std looks better than tbts. I was thinking about the electra KS version. In kolkata to get a electra KS I have to shell out 1,02,696 INR which is 4K cheaper than ES version and almost 10K cheaper than tbts. With that 10K I can buy myself a good helmet and a pair of alloy for the bike. Some where I saw the ES can be problematic, so may be keeping the bike simple will be better. Today saw a silver electra which also looked super cool to me
. So with all these I am super confused. Please help me guys.

As you know alreay all REs now come with the same engine, Enginewise the only choice is between a 500 and a 350. Since you ve said the 500 is out of your budget, just go for the bike you like. I will try and list out a few points of each of the model and hope it helps with your selection process..Originally posted by Arkayan View PostLately I was thinking of electra also. TBTS -
For: Cruiser styling, Tachometer, Overall finish great laid back seating position for long highways rides.
Against: Its not a bullet its a TB many bullet purists don't like it me included, Not very fliclable in city Traffic, price premium over STD and the Electra.
But if you like the TBTS go for it you will cherish the bike.
STD -
For: Lowest sticker price amonst the REs, Old school bullet looks.
Against: Overall finish, Lack of a factory fitted disk brake.
It s great value for it's price as compared to the other RE models.
Electra -
For: Deluxe looks on a true blue bullet template, gorgeous amounts of chrome, Comfortable seat, Factory fitted disk brake.
Against: I personally have nothing against this model I own one
Also I would like to add the RE electric start system is not one of the best and i ve heard from users that it konks off but eh mine has given me no problems so far in the last 3 months but it does have a mind of it's own as in, sometimes even on a full battery charge it acts up and does not crank compltely and goes kinda krr...krrr..kr.. then the kick start works but if it turn the bike of an use the button it cranks the engine properly. Something you might wanna keep in mind.
Hope this helps out mate...Last edited by yamahatrooper; 07-08-2010, 12:26 AM."I set out running but I take my time, a friend of the devil is a friend of mine. If I get home before day light, just might get some sleep tonight" - The Grateful Dead.

Thanks Yamahatrooper for your quick reply. Well I have no idea any re bike as I have never got a chance to ride one. The bike I use to ride is suzuki fiero which do not have es,db or tac. The car I drive, Maruti Suzuki A-Star LXI, also dont have the tac. But I never felt the need of it as by intuition I know when to drive in which gear. So my questions are
1. Is tac is really needed?
2. The price difference of STD and Electra KS is nearly 6.5 K in which I am getting gas shocks and DB, is that really worth?
3. The carb of the electra and the std are same? If not how it effects in performance?
Sorry for asking so many questions
, but this is my first bull and the dream since my childhood. So don't want to go wrong.
Thanks

Not really needed but having one is an advantage especially thru the runnin period but definetly not the end of the world if you don't have one.
2. Is the RE ES reliable?
So far so good.
3. The price difference of STD and Electra KS is nearly 6.5 K in which I am getting gas shocks and DB, is that really worth?
It is, if you wanna get a DB and gas shocks fitted after market i think it ll cost you marginally higher I guess.
4. The carb of the electra and the std are same? If not how it effects in performance?
It s the same carb, performance wise there is no diffrence between a STD and Electra on paper of course in the real world it would depend on the tuning.
Whichever model you get keep in mind the running in period of the initial 2000 kms is very critical for your bull, thats when he is most vulnerable to engine issues. Here is a nice article you can use to understand runnin in better, i suggest you take the time to go though this

Thank you very much Yamahatrooper. You have been grate help to me my dear friend. At the end of this month I am going to book one. A test ride would have a grate help, need to consult with other RE brand stores in kolkata. Waiting period is about 1-1.5 month. So hope to get my bull on mid of September. One more thing to ask, how the chrome is prevented from rusting? Do we need to use any special product to care it?
Thanks

Do not worry about the chroming RE do a good job on it it lasts and lasts. I can tell cos I had an electra before and inspite of just parking it for months without use there was no sign of rusting."I set out running but I take my time, a friend of the devil is a friend of mine.
