I am Rajkamal (24), residing at New Delhi. I am new to this community and motorbiking as well. I love bikes, full stop. I used to drive my father's cycle roadster from time immemorial. My father never upgraded his Hercules roadster and Motorcycles where prohibited in the college, where I went to pursue bachelors, so never had an opportunity to ride a motorcycle. But I love to talk about the various technological advancements with my Mechie friends. I learnt a lot about these beastly machines through those discussions. I used to drool over when I see a poster of Rossi inclined into a corner and used to watch the videos of Garry McCoy sliding with a dropped jaw. Slowly the dream to own a Motorcycle sprouted.
2010 -- Completed my B.Tech, got a decent job with a handsome pay. Some quick appraisals at my work gave me some confidence to accelerate my chase toward my dream. I told my parents that I am planning to buy a bike. They did not object my wish. They were happy indeed. They proposed HH Passion, attributing to its mileage. I started hunting. R15 was my first infatuation. It has all the racing DNA in its miniature size. My friends told me look into then newly launched CBR 250R. Then I researched about it, went to the showroom at Noida to take a look. It looked great. Inquired about the price and told my salary, the guys at Honda showroom told me that financing would not be a problem. Still, I don't know what, but something was missing. Then another friend (a Mechie friend), asked me, jokingly in fact, if you're spending so much on a bike why not go for Ninja? I went to the Pro-biking show room the next day. And Gosh, then I started believing in love at first sight.
She, the little Ninja, stood majestically amongst those nuts and bolts. I never could take my eyes away from her even for a moment. And the generous Showroom guy allowed me to mount the bike. That was the first time I sat on any bike on a rider's seat. And when I sat over her, I felt a very deep connection. I looked down on the console and told her, "I will ride you home baby, one day". I collected the brochures, every technical spec was beyond expectations. I went home, worked out the channels through which I can arrange the finance(1 Lac down-payment and I remember it was 3 Lac OTR). I called my parents I told my wish. They were shocked. They could not reason out why I am willing to pay 3 lac just for a bike!!! I tried to explain. Then finally they rejected the proposal. Not just because spending 3 Lac on just a two wheeler, but also I was willing to buy it completely out of money from various loans. They convinced me not to loan for buying any luxury item. It is a very valuable lesson indeed, which I realize now. But I was broken then. I remember that I cried for 5 hours locked in my room, buried under my pillow. My Mom, when she called me the next time, understood how I feel deep inside my heart. She told me if you are ready to loan, and if it is your die hard dream then why not save the same EMI and buy it!! Then I took the baby steps toward my dream.
In next couple of months I sorted out the already existing loans at my home, which they spent on my education and my sister's. And I allocated a dedicated amount out my every month's salary toward my dream. I used to pass by the Ninja showroom almost once in every month just to get a glance of her beautiful smiling face.
The target amount 3 Lac matured in the month of March 2013. Immediately I rushed to the pro-biking showroom (It was March 27th I guess), to book one. They said the bookings for 250R is closed as they are going to launch 300. Wow Happy!! They told me it is going to be close to 4 Lac OTR. Hmm.. not so happy. I was already following the new Ninjette spec since it is launched in USA. I know that every extra penny I'm paying for is because it has loads of technological advancement in this. I told the situation to my Mom. Now I am in a better position to control such financial crisis. Also I had done other small savings too. So even my Mom was convinced that I can repay the loan If I had to take any in less than 6 months. She supported, completely, to go for the Ninja 300. What next!! the next day, I went to the show room, booked one.
Then I fought a Mini battle to get my driving license from Delhi, found a friend who could teach me how to ride a motorcycle (because I showed him the payment receipt for the complete amount for Ninja 300, so he gave his Pulsar 180 to me to learn the basics). And I finally I laid my hands on my first love on June 7th 2013, approx at 5:30 PM.
So far I had done 550+ KMS on her. (Before may be I had ridden < 50 KMS on my friend's pulsar). So I am basically a toddler in this community. I am here so that experienced people can guide me through my life with my girl.
Seeking blessings, guidance and help from all experienced riders,
-- Rajkamal R.
