I believe we spoke of this point yesterday. A handful of riders who have been at lavasa for years together and know it better than anyone else, can ride faster. This does not mean that they race there; it's just that their natural pace is higher than most. Typically, these are seniors who have been disciplined till date. However, they will surely be more cautious now on.

Lets hope that happens. I dont want to crash into ppl coming into my lane when i ride to that location.

I have one recommendation to this group , lets drop all this senior , junior , newbie tags that we give to each other. neither age nor riding experience nor skill should be taken into account while deciding who is who. Neither has anyone the authority to say who is senior or junior. All are group members and equal.

Anyone else here agrees with me here on this ?

It was nice discussion which we had yesterday, good fruitful discussion which would or rather should help the Pune xBhp chapter be a safe and disciplined group.

1. The Gear Mandate on Pune xBhp Team STAYS. The gear must be proper and the fit has to be right too.
2. Every member of the team is expected to ride with a lot of common sense and keep his ego at home when they are on a bike (xBhp ride or otherwise too)
3. Every member of the team is responsible for his own safety and that of the others in the group.
4. No member in distress should be ignored under any circumstances. Where things get difficult, members may seek help from Seniors (on the ride or via phone), Police or any emergency response team. In addition to this, we are bikers and share the road with a lot many people. If you see a situation where your timely help can save a life, please do not run away from helping the ones in need.
5. Know your limits and that of your bike. Do not exceed any one of them. Do not blindly follow a faster rider for any reason.
6. No part of the road is to be treated as a race track. For rides to the mountains and ghats, the group must be disciplined and has to ride responsibly.
7. The ride planner and the marshal for that ride has to check the mandatory gear and documents before each ride. Any failure to do so will be deemed as the sole responsibility of the ride initiator/planner.
8. Any of the participants may voluntarily dig out information on the various hospitals, contact numbers for police etc for the planned route. This list is mandatory and has to be shared with each participant before the ride begins.
9. Although formation riding is a good practice but, in reality it may not happen and hence, the concept of ride buddy makes sense and the entire group has to ensure that they re-group with the entire group once in a specific number of kilometers.
10. On a group ride, you can plan and have a ride buddy; someone who will look out for you and ride with you on a similar expectation from you. Ensure that the ride buddy you pick is someone with whom you are comfortable, speed-wise and generally too.
11. Each participant must share ICE information with the ride planner before the ride commences. This can be done while confirming for the ride on the online forum. While doing so, please quote your full name, your contact number, an emergency contact number, your relation with the emergency contact and your blood group too.
12. All participants on the ride are expected to keep their bikes in top condition. Essential parts like tyres, brakes, headlights and chains might be inspected by the ride conductor for trip worthiness. Any concern can be consulted and decided on whether to proceed with the ride or not.
13. No exception will be made to the rules mentioned above. The rules are there for your own safety and that of the entire group. We are ok with losing new members from joining the group rather than losing lives on the road.

Another point I would like to add here is that in a group ride(of even a minimum of 5 riders) one should have a Thumb rule not to overtake the one in front and the leader should control the pace of the pack, this way no chaos or mayhem would be there on the ride and everyone would remain disciplined. The whole point of a group ride is that everyone should ride in a group than have several different rides on a single ride(with everyone having their own speed).

If everyone is ok with this, lets put this in the above list then.

Just to add my personal view. In my view a proper riding gear means:
- Good quality, full face helmet with visor.
- Riding jacket with shoulder, back and elbow protector.
- Riding pant with knee and hip protector.
- Full size glove.
- Riding shoe.
- Spine protector and add chest protector if you like.
Anything less than is a compromise and not proper.
Then we have various quality of stuff available, and money is the only limiting factor there but I guess something that will work should be ok.

I personally don't believe in elbow/knee guards as separate entities, the reason I never bought them. Knee guard for instance, hamper my knee from holding the tank(that I always like to do) and they also damage the tank.

2.thick skinned (with good abrasion resistance)

Helmets were and are compulsory on all xBHP meets / rides. Some might not adhere to this one rule but it was always expected that you wear a helmet since this is really Rule #0.

Why gear is not mandatory is so that any new joinees who do not have gear as of now may at least be able to interact with the ones who do. The ones who *own* gear are still expected to wear it to xBHP meets / other rides with or without xBHPians.

This does not make any sense. If I say that wearing a helmet hampers my peripheral vision and damage my hairstyle so I do not believe in them, would that be ok ?

If knee guards hamper your style, make riding pants compulsory.

Helmets don't hamper vision. That's a fact.

Knee guard makes it difficult to hold the tank. That's what I have experienced.

Holding the tank while riding a motorcycle is a good riding technique. That's why we have tank shapes that help us do that.
Instead of sitting with legs spread wide open to let "some parts" of your body get constant air flow.

Knee guard damages the tank, I have see it in action. And have seen people trying various things to avoid it, like putting tape and what not.

Since knee guard hampers the way I ride, I never bought them. I delayed the purchase of a riding pant due to some circumstances that I was taking care of (my waist line, that I have got down to what I wanted).

@Nav I use the non bionic type e-cheapo knee guards (just to be on the correct side of the *rules* ) but they do not hamper my ability to hold the tank.

You not buying knee guards / riding pants does not mean that you should promote it as THE thing to do. Basic riding gear requirements are already posted on the first post of this thread. If you feel that some are missing or unnecessary, please speak with NV to amend the post.

At least I don't advise people about what my definition of basic riding gear is.
