I would be grateful for some info on the following routes:

That is no doubt the shortest route from Pune to Karwar. I don't know about that route, but I have done this route through Yellapur.

The stretch from Pune to Dharwad is nicely summarised by aargee.

The road from Dharwad to Karwar thorugh Kalghati-Yellapur-Ankola is very good. Its along the edge of the Anshi forests, and there are a few small ghats in between. This should take you 3.5 hours. Petrol bunks available at Kalghati, Yellapur and Ankola but not too many in between.

It can be done without a problem, assuming you dont get too much traffic entering Pune at Khed Shivapur tollbooth. My P-150 affords cruising speeds of only 100, and we did Dharwad-Pimple Gurav, Pune in 6.5 hours (1700 hrs to 2330 hrs). Of course this was with no breaks except for a half an hour halt to Kolhapur McD. On your CBR it should be a breeze

Out of all three options, Dharwad is the best bet. Fantastic road, nothing much that can delay your travel.

I too am thinking on those lines. Karwar is too close to beer n beaches n babes n butts n b**bs for comfort (my wife's, that is LOL)

Ganpati Pule beach. There's a board there which enlists the names of people who have lost their lives drowning in the ocean till date. This beach has strong undercurrents that even best swimmers cannot handle, it just sucks you in deep waters. So going in waters is strictly a no-no.

Road conditions summary from Pune to Ganpati Pule...

Route followed and road conditions summary...

Total Distance between Pune and Ganpati Pule is 345kms (approx).

First Patch: Pune to Umbraj - 142kms, NH4.

1. Very good road conditions throughout this patch with the exception of Khambatki Ghat. Very bad and skiddy patches in the ghat, no cornering recommended

Second Patch: Umbraj to Chiplun - 90kms, Single lane road.

• Good road with bad patches at the regular interval till Patan.
• Kumbharli Ghat section is 80% good 20% bad, and this 20% is really very bad but tolerable with the scenery of the ghat
• After Kumbharli Ghat till Chiplun road conditions are good

Third Patch: Chiplun to Nivli Phata - 75kms, NH17

• Heaven road with nothing to complain about, pure riding pleasure

Fourth patch: Nivli Phata to Ganpati Pule: 32 kms

• Some bad patches within first 7 to 8 kms after which very good road till the destination

Hi Good to hear that you are inspired for touring. You could look at beaches in Ratnagiri or Malvan. As Vishwas sir mentioned the other day Tarkarli is a nice beach. Or there are others too: Guhagar, Diveagar, Ganpati Pule, Vengurla. Just search for them on the Google maps. After you have decided on it you can ask for the route details here. I'm sure many members have covered those and would help you out with the road conditions.
Hope you wear all the riding gear while touring.

I haven't been through that route. Some have been to Kashid lately. They can tell you about the road condition. Before leaving for the ride I would suggest you do a quick bike inspection, check for punctures, air pressure check, lube the chain, oil check and coolant level check if your bike is Liquid cooled.
Also keep the following with you: A water bottle, First Aid kit, Tubeless Puncture kit, a utility knife/multi-tool, a GPS or a map. Also carry all the documents regarding your bike.

From what I had read on other forums :

1.) Route from Pune -- Loanavala -- Kopoli --Pen : Is fine
2.) Pen -- Alibaug -- Kashid : Uneven bumpy roads , yet manageable.
3.) Diveagar -- Mahasala -- Mangaon : Ok , but manageable.
4.) Mangaon -- Vile -- Tahmini Base : Super
5.) Tahmini : They have laid the tarmac only at a few portions of ghat the last time we visited at the start of monsoons. Rest of sections is a royal screw up all the way till mulshi !

Just a suggestion , if you are going till diveagar why miss the famous scenic stretch from diveagar to shirvardhan. Also road all the way from shrivardhan till mahsala is good . If you want some more spice try , diveagar -- shrivardhan -- goregoan--poladpur --mahabi--pune. Its longer but very scenic ! Poladpur -- mahabi stretch had some good tarmacs last time we visited. Hopefully you are not planning all this in one day

P.S All the data is with respect to rides done pre - monsoon. Post monsoon I have not been on a single ride.


EDIT :

Just read it would be your first ride on your new bike. My suggestion would be , leave pune early in the morning cover lonavala & enjoy a lazy bum ride to kashid till late noon. Have lunch at patil khanavali & reach diveagar for evening. Settle down there for the night. Next day early morning have a visit to ganpati temple in diveagar , continue till shrivardhan -- goregaon -- poladpur -- mahabi & back to pune by early evening.
