Ride to Amba, Kolhapur, Maharashtra

Amba ghat (pronounced as Aamba ghat) is a mountain pass on Ratnagiri-Kolhapur road (NH 204) in Maharashtra, India, at a height of 2000 ft above sea-level, This ghat lies in the Sahyadri mountain ranges (Western Ghats) and has picturesque mountain-scapes and a pleasant climate. It is situated near Shahuwadi, Kolhapur district, and has nearby interesting places are Pawankhind and Vishalgad fort.

Ride Date(s): To be decided. Tentatively, 7th or 8th of December 2013.
Start from Pune at: 5:00 AM
Back to Pune by: 5:00 PM (Approx.)

Would request all members to put in their confirmation at the earliest. Also indicate which of the two dates are comfortable for you.

Based on the last discussion at the Offline Meet, we shall be trying out the new grouping pattern on this ride where bikes will be grouped on the basis of their performance capabilities. All litre class machines together with middleweights, Ninja 250/300 together, CBRs in one group, R15 in a different one. The head and tail would be informed a day prior to the ride.

All the rules mentioned on the first page will apply and papers will be checked this time.

First grouping point will be point B in the marked map. It is 186 km from starting point. People are requested to start looking out for the leading group right from 170 km mark.

Road between point B & point C of the map is narrow. Speeding should be avoided in this stretch.

Second grouping point will be at Amba. It is marked as point C in the map. It is 248 km from starting point.

Mr. Gaurav Tyagi has taken up the responsibility of identifying breakfast location at Amba.

After breakfast, group will ride from another road towards Karad and stop at Hotel Mahendra Executive, Satara. This hotel is on right hand side of the road. It is 130 km from Amba and is 378 km from starting point. It is identified as point D in map.

After lunch, group will ride back to Chandani Chowk. It would be around 107 km from Hotel Mahendra Executive and 485 km from starting point. It is identified as point E in map.

I am groupless.

Perhaps, you can attach a set of rotors to the FZ1 and provide aerial support by way of law enforcement and health care

Seems that the addiction of Pune riders to systematic riding is matched only by the abhorrence of Mumbai riders to it...

Good zeroing and grouping fire. Now I am sure that the "fire for effect" stage will be flawless.

Misal Pav and Poha with tea arranged. rate will be told there. location : hotel VANRAI (left hand side) nearly 150 meters before Ambagaon when coming from NH4 side...No I am not getting any commission.....

For all the owls winging around at this late (for tomorrow's riders? most definitely yes, you should be fast ASLEEP and not attempting zero altitude aerobatics) hour, a heads up about some OTT perspectives about motorcycle safety here.

The immediate reason for this post was the caustic and dismissive attitude projected by a colleague (yes, a caged chicken) about my helmeted, jacketed, gloved apparition on a local ride. I learned pretty late in life that one cannot reason out with a person when reason is not IN this person. So, I just let it go yet, had the concern to caution him about his own son's motorcycling attitude to which, as usual, the response was" abey bc, jo hoga so dekha jayega". At such times, I think whether it is worth it all.

All the best for all riders of tomorrow's trip. I wish I could be a participant as the last man, the night watchman, Colonel Slow, the snail on his Pulsar 150 (wire wheels? gaaaawd): if he is in, the cows are in their mangers chewing the cud, the stars are out and Night is warming the riders with her sequinned robe, studded with millions of diamonds and rubies and sapphires - all is well, sleep soundly, your guardian is awake and alert.

Will wait for the fotos of the ride. Ride hard and ride safe.
