GT007, Divya Sharan, princesirohi. Thanks guys. I hope to get it before noon.

Hope because I am frankly stunned at the completely unprofessional approach shown by the dealer in the past month. Just see how the staff is running one of the greatest names in motorcycling history into the dirt.

I paid the booking amount of Rs 1 lac in the first week of July. Then, the entire balance amount of Rs 5.51k was paid on 21 July. I had asked for the delivery on 26 Aug - more than one friggin' month in advance to give the dealer adequate time to sort out documentation issues. Ha.

My wife sent me the Form 20 by speed post which I signed and returned to her. She deposited the form with BUBT the very next day.

Then, there was some hassle about bank hypothecation not being mentioned etc. That was sorted out by my wife by shunting between BUBT in Baner and the bank in Kothrud four times.

And now, today, one staff member namely Ms Neerja, told my wife that the scanned copy of Form 20 is not valid. My wife went to BUBT and spoke to this person and then called me. The more I heard, the more I got inflamed by the utterly and typically Indian "f###k you" approach. Igave her a piece of my mind . She was not able to speak logically and she has been hired by BUBT? Go figure.

Then, I demanded the manager - Ashwin Deshpande - to come on line. This conversation was on my wife's mobile. I simply warned him that if I did not get the bike on 26 Aug, with all documents ready, the deal was off - booking cancelled, loan cancelled and his butt on the line.

When my wife had had enough of these clowns, she returned home and then told me that the lady Neerja, the gent Ganesh and the manager Ashwin all had conflicting and contradictory views about Form 20. And these buffoons are representing Triumph.

And during this entire Form 20 episode, I did not get one SINGLE phone call from the staff at BUBT. Not one farking call.

Crores spent on the showroom, a sterling product with a splendid history on sale and low wattage " I care s##t about my customer" staff to man the place. And I, like a loyal customer, had sent an article from RideApart praising Triumph service via an email to Deshpande.

Mind you, this behavior is completely opposite to the reputation of Triumph dealers globally. So, is it that we Indians are the real a###holes. Ham nahi sudhrengey...

shashrash. I shall have to rely on the Delhi Triumph workshop for the 1st service. I have spoken to the manager there, let's see how it is.

And this is the article I had emailed to the BUBT Manager. If this is the initial experience, even the Devil cannot help other potential customers...

Dear Ashwin,

I am sending you the text of an article featured on www. rideapart.com about the service provided for a dodgy Explorer.

What shines out from the article is the level of commitment shown by the company to provide customer delight. I have heard of similar cases from the past about Triumph going more than the extra mile to keep customers happy and within its fold.

During a recent interaction with Pune bikers, I was surprised to hear the company still retains a stiff British upper lip kind of image in the minds of customers versus Kawasaki. I gave my point of view based on the experience I had with your dealership on the test ride day, which, I will be frank in saying, was very good.

This article should act as a source of motivation to your staff to tell them that even on the other side of the planet, Triumph keep customers happy. And as a source of inspiration to the team to keep the flag flying high.

You can access the whole article here - http://rideapart.com/2014/07/customer-service-at-its-best/

Anyone who has been reading my adventure bike articles will likely have come across my Farewell Tiger Explorer
Triumph Motorcycles is a modern day success story. Like may other motorcycle manufacturers they were bankrupt, closing their doors, and were in receivership. That was 1983. Enter John Bloor, owner of Bloor Homes one of the largest single owner construction companies. Mr. Bloor was attending an auction for the Triumph factory to possibly purchase the site and develop it for new home construction. He ended up buying the Triumph brand. After a brief period of sub-licensing the marque he set about resurrecting the storied brand. Returning it to prominence the world over.
In order to understand the level of customer service that was provided I need to share a bit about me as a customer. I am demanding, impatient, detail oriented, and I expect nothing less than perfection. In other words a pain in the butt. If a dealer, in this case Chesapeake Cycles, or manufacturer can meet these standards I am one more thing. Loyal. If you take care of me as a customer I will support a brand completely.
The first issue with the Tiger ExplorerThis is where both Triumph and my local dealer stepped up to lessen the impact on my pocket book and also show me they cared about each customer.
What I got was something else entirely. Triumph paid my motorcycle payment, they paid the gas I used in my truck, they gave me accessories for my Explorer. I received heated grips, heated front seat and a heated passenger seat. I was also given a loaner bike for the last few days by my dealer. All in all I hated not having my bike, but I have to admit when it was all done I was happy with the process.
My next experience with Triumph customer support was my final one with the Explorer. The issues that had originally sidelined the bike had returned. Parts were back ordered again. I had lost faith in the motorcycle and was once again not able to ride. The customer support I received this time was even better. I left the first day with a loaner motorcycle. Triumph and Chesapeake Cycles were in constant contact with each other and with me. There is nothing like having an idea of where you are in a process and not having to pry it out but have it delivered to you. I was honest in my review of the Explorer but I do want to point out that Triumph stands behind their products and continue to do so. I definitely respect them as a brand. So much so in fact I own another Triumph.
At this point I no longer wanted the Explorer and was willing to use all legal actions available. I never had to. Triumph reviewed my case, heard that I wanted to get a different motorcycle and made that happen. I have always liked theBonnevilleline of motorcycles, in particular theTriumph Scrambler. The three parties involved worked together to find a deal that made everyone comfortable and ultimately let me say goodbye to the Explorer on a positive note. I was able to trade back in the Explorer, Triumph paid off what I owed and I was able to buy a new 2013 Scrambler as if I had never owned or owed a dime on the Explorer. That my friends is the rest of the story.

I am not defending them but just .....

Although i have not purchased anything from triumph...i was mighty pleased by the kind of response i got from them, when i went there for test ride, i didn't went there as an xbhpian or a biker but just an ordinary guy and they happily obliged. I test rode the daytona...twice...once solo and once with wife...and tiger adventure also twice...once solo and once with wife...i was fully satisfied. And on the other hand when i compare it with pro-biker/ktm/kawasaki....every single time i had asked for a test ride of bikes such as P220/duke200/ninja250 ...i was plainly denied.

So ...lets hope that it is a one off incident.

So a Test ride says it all about customer experience? What maneesh sir has mentioned depicts mismanagement and taking customer for a ride. If the were not clear on the rule ( accepting a scanned copy) its their job to get it clarified.

Anyway ignoring the "test ride Customer Experience" hows the delivery date looking sir? shall we mark our calender on 26th Aug?

No a test ride does not say it all about customer satisfaction.....but it definitely shows the intentions and their approach towards customer or future customers.

Yes it was mismanagement and i just said that it may be a one off case....since other xbhpians have also purchased bikes from same dealership.

Anyway Keeping the above uneccessary debate aside....maneesh sir..how long you will b in pune.

princesirohi. I too was unpleasantly surprised by this incident. The dealer had given test rides on just one phone call, on all the bikes and had been most friendly that day. Many of us were there - Vishwas, GT, Hareesh, Prasanna etc. We had thoroughly enjoyed that day and now this.

I have to agree to disagree with you on the awareness aspect of the dealer. It may be a one-off incident but speaks volumes about the general setup of the staff.

It does not need a super computer to make a simple check list of items to be seen to during the complete selling process. I use check lists on a daily basis. Dammit, our wives are experts at check lists else we and our kids would have been at the mercy of one another.

Also, sophisticated communication devices are not needed to put the entire staff on one platform, for the staff to speak with one voice. Ganesh says one thing, Neerja a second and Ashwin a third? The dealership is NOT, I repeat NOT Parliament where every Tom, Dick and Harry and his dog, cat and mother-in-law have different voices. And even there, the Party Whip ensures unison.

The internal customer handling process is faulty. There does not seem to much on-the-job front end staff training going on where such staff is acquainted with updates on the entire process of selling a bike to a customer on the tactical basis. Nobody expects the responsible staff member to prognosticate on where Triumph will be in the year 2024. But she/he must know every single minute detail of how to sell a bike to a customer. The paperwork, the finances, the rules, laws, regulations to do with everything on sale in her/his showroom. Else, she/he is fit to be shown the door.

I do not have a bad ego. But what angered me was the insouciant attitude of the dealer towards what is actually a premium product. This, ipso facto merits preferential treatment of the prospect and premium treatment of the confirmed customer. I am not expecting a bevy of dancing girls or a champagne reception or footing my kids' college bills but don't get a positive response dealing with even the most basic nuts and bolts of the process? I am an informed customer so am willing to overlook this minor glitch. Were I not aware of the brand and the product, I may well have shifted to the nearest competitor and joined the global club of its patrons. In the process, BUBT and Triumph would have been done double damage - first losing a customer and second potentially losing the potential customer(s) who are the customer's friends.

I shall be in Pune till 04 Sep, celebrate my son's birthday on that day and then ride up to SGNR from 05 Sep.

Anyway ignoring the "test ride Customer Experience" hows the delivery date looking sir? shall we mark our calender on 26th Aug?
GT007. Not so much as taking the customer for a ride as making him feel like something the cat brought in from the garden - a pile of stinking s##t. The ATTITUDE is "sannu ki".

The delivery date is looking good at 26 Aug unless some new f##kup takes place.
