Re: The Official Pune Offline Meet(G2G) Thread

30 hours of riding 1668.3 kms took me from Pune to SGNR. I started on 05 Sep at 0630h. From Hinjewadi, the rain accompanied me till Fountain Hotel. whymail had recommended a better route but I started on the Kalamboli - Mumbra route to avoid getting into Mumbai in the rains. The long truck lines forced me to ride a bit riskily by hugging the left most patch of road. I reached Fountain Hotel at about 1130h.

NH8 was great. Pleasant weather accompanied me all along. The bike ran super smoothly at 100 to 120. My original plan to halt for the night at Bharuch had to be altered due to the Pune - Mumbai route delays. So I stopped at Kamrej for the night.

The next day, that is 06 Sep, I started at 0615h. After Baroda, the old highway to Ahmedabad had many diversions as it was being renovated. It will ultimately rival the NE1 in excellence.

There was some major Gujarati festival in progress and there were long lines of devotees till Ambaji. I was 5 kms short of Ambaji when I was stopped at a police check post and told to return as the road ahead had been closed for the festival. The alternate route involved riding along the foothills of Mt Abu via Poshina on a single track but very good tarmac road for 22 kms. Ultimately, it took me to the Jaipur - Mt Abu road where I turned right to head for Pali, my destination for the night. This was the best road I had ridden over till date. Brilliantly smooth tarmac, the Bonnie was straining to hit the odo limit.

Again, the almost 2 hour delay over the Ambaji detour meant that I had to halt in Sirohi. The Baba Ramdev hotel was nice. The simple dinner of a large Rajasthani roti and mixed veg dish was tasty and filling.

The consecutive delays and detours of the past two days had left me with a backlog of about 150 kms. I would need to ride about 700 kms the next day.

Early start at 0600h on 07 Sep. Almost immediately after turning off the lovely highway, the road quality worsened dramatically. The worst patch was between Bikaner and Lunkaransar. The top surface of the road had been worn off in patches so it was impossible to find a continuous bridge between them for any length. The bike took the pounding much better than its rider. I was exhausted after this patch in much the same manner as the Leh - Pang stretch had sapped me.

I reached SGNR at 1930h. There was no ache in my back at all. Just some tenderness on my butt and some strain on the wrists in hauling this 225 kg beast around, over, into and across crazy road conditions.

The need to cover distance precluded stopping to take fotos so just one or two here.

I shall write an extremely detailed review of the bike in the appropriate section later.

    Hi Rohan,

There are 2 ways from Mysore to Ooty - one via Masinagudi and the other via Gudalur. None of them are one way. You can not predict rains here these days - would at least drizzle more likely than not in some part of the journey.

The running-in is till 800 kms. So, GT, Suraj, Prabhat and self went to Lonavala foor breakfast on 30 Aug (Sat). I think one of us took some fotos; pls upload them here.

On 31 Aug, Suraj, Arnab and self went to Bhigwan and thence to the Ujani Dam. Superb road and equally conducive weather. It was a Sunday so the dam office was closed. Yet, we managed to get to the rear of the dam and take some fotos.

The Bonnie was excellent. The torque is massive as is the power. From 60 in 5th to 100 is so deceptive that one has to be careful with the throttle. I shall put up a detailed review after returning to Sri Ganganagar on 07 Sep.

Yes it was mismanagement and i just said that it may be a one off case....since other xbhpians have also purchased bikes from same dealership.

Anyway Keeping the above uneccessary debate aside....maneesh sir..how long you will b in pune.

Kawasaki has always maintained that they do not offer test rides of their vehicles. They are upfront about it and I respect that. However, once you HAVE committed to them , they will provide excellent customer service.

My N250R stalled on the SECOND day 250 kms away from home. Imagine my frustration, being stranded in the middle of a highway with no help in sight. I called up the service manager (who had shared his details during PDI) and he co-operated fully. They had service guys from Kolhapur (which was nearby) come and collect the bike and take it to the service center to try and sort out the issue. They couldnt , so the next day they sent an Engineer all the way from Pune and had it fixed. It would have been easy for them just ask me to get the bike to Pune on my own and then fix it but they didnt. Anyway, the story is detailed elsewhere on a very old post in the N250R ownership thread. The point is there is more to customer service than test rides. The staff has always been courteous in the Kawasaki showrooms and so too in the service centers.

As against this, the Triumph showroom while offering test rides was hardly warming up to me. They had me fill out a form for the test rides (which is fine) but the sales guy (tall lanky fellow) wouldnt look me in the eye while talking and was completely dismissive. I asked for prices and finance information but was told they would email it to me. I havent yet got an email. Anyway, I didnt leave the showroom feeling too keen on buying Triumph inspite of the fact that the Daytona blew me away and Striple was good too. Didnt even go back for the Tiger TD which was my initial reason for visiting the showroom.

Sad, but not surprised to read about icemang's experience with them.

@icemang Manish Sir. Congratulations. I feel very excited to know that you are buying this awesome bike.. Its sad to hear about your case mishandled by the dealer. Hope you get your bike on the 26th. I would have loved to come to witness the delivery of your bike but unfortunately office calls and I have to go to work to keep filling up tanks of petrol in my Bonnie. I wish you all the joy of riding this awesome machine.
